  1. Hey y'all,

good evening, good morning or good afternoon wherever you may be...

Quick update- Karol, my fiancé, scheduled her medical today... the medical exam is August 25th and interview is August 29th... this process has went faster than I thought. I prepared for 9 months to a year. I bought our plane tickets last week... I made sure she had window seats on all flights and that I had a seat right beside her... tickets cost $2800 which is way less than I thought I would spend... I was thinking around 4k but that was not the case at all. I buy my plane tickets from Expedia... i looked on google flights and the price for her ticket was $700 more!! I leave December 01 to fly to Salvador, Bahia Brazil... I arrive December 02. I'll be there until December 22 which is when we fly back to the states. We arrive back the next day in Chicago I believe and then to Little Rock Arkansas and finally back to Memphis international airport. I live about 15-20 minutes south of the airport in Southaven, MS... The farthest north you can go in MS before hitting the state line of TN. Anyways it's all coming together real fine and dandy. We are in love and ready to be together. As for right now it's hotter than a sunny day in hell and the humidity along with the heat index in the south is literally unbearable. Can't wait till cooler temps!! Karol lives in a tropical climate where the coldest it gets is 60°F so she is in for quite the surprise areriving just 2 days before Christmas because it will most likely be pretty cold. Much colder than what she's use to. Quite the journey it's been over the past 4 or 5 months... I have to admit that it hasn't been that bad for me... I feel blessed and I know that whatever amount of time I had to wait was well worth it in the end. There is no distance with love. I'm positive if 2 people can be thousands of miles apart and live as normal a life as possible than those 2 people can make a marriage work. It requires an open heart and a willing spirit none the less. I wish everyone an abundance of happiness, love, laughter and joy with your loved ones and most importantly may we never let the marital bliss and flames of romance ever die out. Be blessed and prosperous.

I don't know about you, But my noa2 only has 4 months on it. It got approved 28th June and priority date says 27th October. I think that means by then I will have had to have my interview. Maybe you only have so long and December is out of that range.

I'm from uk so not sure if different embassies have different rules.

You could very well be right about that. I didn't even think about it

  3. Welp the interview is scheduled for August 29... that was the farthest out I could get it. We wanted to schedule it for December but there was nothing available past August 29th... maybe I can contact the consulate and see if they can do it for them?? We were planning on doing it that way so that I could be there. I'm going for 3 weeks or either the whole month of December... she completed the DS-160 today and I just discovered that we were ready to schedule the interview tonight. I made an account, paid the fee and scheduled the interview. It all seems surreal. We've got a month and a half to get all of the documents collected. This will be a little nerve wrecking. I'm for sure going to see if it's possible to schedule it for sometime in December... praying that can happen instead of August but if not it's all good!! All I know is within 6 months I will be a married man and my fiancé will take my last name thus beginning our new life together. This went by very quickly, much quicker than I thought it would. Very surreal right now. I'm very thankful!

You need to wait around to pick it up... it clearly says due to strikes across the country the best thing to do is pick up the visa at the closest pick up spot which is very close to the consulate. This information is on the web page where you first sign up to register an account to schedule the interview. Did you have to wait to receive instructions to schedule your interview? How long did it take for your case to arrive at the consulate? Mine is on the way to Rio as of yesterday but said is was electronically sent.

@aradracing02 it should take only a few days btw

  6. Hello everyone-

little more progress on my end... I got my case number this morning from the NVC and changed my girlfriends address in their system as she had moved right after we submitted the petition in Feb. Anyways... we are in admin processing at NVC and it will be electronically sent to Rio de Janeiro Brazil after that. Do we need to wait till we get something in the mail or email before we do whatever the next steps are. I'm a little cloudy on everything going forward... I think the d160 is next and all of that but not sure? I've looked at the embassy website in Rio but they make it sound like you can't do anything until it arrives at the embassy which I don't have a problem waiting to do that but just wanting some clarity. Thanks y'all. We will be together in December... I'll be in Brazil for 3 weeks. Can't wait.

I panic because if he does lose his job then it's going to reflect bad on us that he's only been in a new job for 2 months, we don't have a co-sponsor either as he earns way more than whats required.

I wouldn't worry about it at all... it's easier said than done though when we are actually in the situation... if he gets a doctors note though, they can't argue that. At least that's how it is here in the states. Sounds like he works at a pretty dreadful place

As if things couldn't get more stressful, my fiance just called me saying he has had to call in sick to work today as he's been sick all morning. His employers are AWFUL to say the least and have given him grief for having just this day off, bare in mind he hasn't had a sick day since he started working at this company (July 2016). He's only had a holiday to fly to the UK in February which they are now holding against him, oh and not to mention they are moaning about him having 4 days of in October for our wedding and haven't even approved it yet. He's really stressed out now because he thinks they are going to fire him for having a day off. I'm absolutely panicking now being so close to our approval, all my mind is thinking now is 'I'm never going to be with him'

Does anybody have any advise for if the worst does happen... he gets fired? :(

Let's just "laugh at that lie"... the best medicine is laughter and joy... if he gets fired oh well that means there is another door to be opened and something better for him. Chances are he won't get fired for having a sick day... he needs to get a doctors note and that's for sure proof and they can't argue with it

  9. Hey guys and gals,

Mine and my girlfriends petition was approved on June 14th... I've been calling NVC daily almost. Last time I called was this past Thursday and they said they still hadn't received it... I called again today and now they are saying it was received on June 28 which woulda been last Wednesday I believe? Guess it didn't update till today? Anyways they had received it but still had not gotten a case number... I knew something was different because I called the non immigrant phone number and she said let me look at something... she then said I needed to call the other hot line and press option 5. So I did it and talked to a woman with a accent and she told me it was received but still no case number. My question to y'all is how long do I need to wait to call back to get the case number? I asked her that but she couldn't give me a  definitive answer for whatever reason. But she was very nice and pleasant and so was the First Lady I talked to. I was surprised she was working. I work in asphalt and we got off Friday afternoon early and don't return till Wednesday... Monday and Tuesday being paid holiday pay.

Hey there. I ended up just going to "pick her up". I did not go to the interview, but everything went smoothly. She received her passport with the visa in it 6 business days after the interview. She fiancee lives 3 hours by air from Rio, so she stayed there for the medical the week before, through the interview. Each extra night there was another night away from home/hotel costs, so she just wanted to get home and have the passport sent to her.

We just arrived back to my home in California yesterday. Point of entry was in Houston, it only took 10-15 minutes longer than "normal" immigration at the airport, but this was at 5 am and there were only a few other arriving flights at the time - we basically arrived right when immigration opened, so YMMV at different airports/times. Logistically it's actually quite difficult to get down there (without much notice, and in a fairly short time frame of dates) and return on the same flights without paying an obscene amount, at least for our cities involved. Best of luck to you. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I appreciate that... luckily my girlfriend has a sister in Rio and I guess we will be staying there. We've debated wether or not I should come after it's already issued to her or for me to be there for the interview... I can have as much time off as I need but financially I can only probably do 2 weeks maybe 2 1/2. So you are saying you went to pick your soon to be wife up after she had already gone home and received her visa by mail? The only thing that concerns me about going to the interview and staying at her sisters or a hotel to wait for the visa to pick up is the fact that it would end up taking a longer amount of time. Go ahead and gamble and stay or just wait till she has it and is already home is the question I've been pondering lol. Thanks for your input and congrats on your future with your wife. My fiancé is from Salvador.

  11. I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to do both... If you go to the interview you will have to be in Rio already... just wait for a couple of days afterwards so that you could pick up the visa instead of waiting for it to come in the mail to her house a week or 2 later. I may be wrong on this but you should be able to do this. My fiancé is in Brazil also. We are waiting for NVC to receive. I plan to be there for her interview... we will wait in Rio until she gets her visa so that we can pick it up there. I read that you can do that. I'll be staying 2 weeks most likely. How long do you have off from work? This plays a significant factor into all of this.
