My MIL came last summer on tourist visa

Before u consider a permanent move check out cost(s) of insurance and any medications they may take

MIL pays $40 fora month back in Moroc for diabetic medicine which is just under $600 a month  here

and what i see when traveling to Africa is many womn are diabetics

    that's just one example

MIL needed emergency surgery when she returned home at cost of $1000 in Moroc and would have been ????   here

its just something u need to consider if they are unable to work and u r the sole supporter

    good luck to u

yes, thank you. i already factored this in to my decision.

Curious as to why you are already thinking about them abandoning status when you just filed for them to become LPR.

my dad and brother are open to living in the US (they speak english well and will not have problems assimilating etc)....my mom not so much (she does not speak english at all and is intimidated by everything). but i want for all of them to come visit and see my life here. i thought about having them apply for tourist visas but i don't think they will be approved. so i thought about petitioning them. if they come over and mom decides she hates it after all, they might decide to just go home and not come back.

  3. No need to stress about this. You only really need 3 years worth of continuous residency as a spouse of a US citizen. But I get it, the instructions are confusing. I had exactly the same questions you have when I did my N-400. What I did was I submitted 5 years of travel history anyway (yes, even for those years I was not yet a US resident). Then I submitted an accompanying letter stating why I submitted 5 years (because the instructions said so lol) and that 2ish of those years I was not yet a US resident. The officer at the interview re-confirmed my travel dates but other than that, no other issues encountered. You will be fine.

PH consulates have slight differences in their requirements for consular services.  Your best bet would be to contact the consulate you intend to complete the reacquisition process, to confirm if they want that section filled out at or prior to your appointment.

Yes, thank you I already did that I wanted to hear other's experiences as well.

US doesn't care about dual citizenship..is this a UAE thing?

For a second there I thought I posted this in the wrong section. Yes, the US does not care about dual citizenship. Does not apply to UAE as well. Posted this in the Philippines portal because I am wanting to re-acquire my Philippine citizenship.

  6. Hello! Anyone here who recently completed their dual citizenship application in person? In page 2 of the form, there is a section for "Certification" with space for a notary public's signature. Does this have to be done (notarized) in advance? Or do I complete this section when I am at the embassy during my appointment? Thanks!

I came with my minor son with a K1 and K2 visa. Always I have gone with him to the interviews, etc. What happens if I get my citizenship? Does he gets it automatically or do I have to file another form?

Sorry, I don't have any idea about this.

USCIS Implements Risk-Based Approach for Conditional Permanent Resident Interviews

    Release Date
    04/07/2022

WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today announced a policy update to adopt a risk-based approach when waiving interviews for conditional permanent residents (CPR) who have filed a petition to remove the conditions on their permanent resident status.

Effective immediately, new criteria will guide USCIS officers on when to waive interviews for CPRs who filed a Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence. This update replaces previous agency guidance that required all CPRs to undergo an interview if they obtained CPR status via consular processing.

“Implementing a risk-based strategic approach to the CPR-interview process will increase efficiencies that improve processing times, allow for a better use of agency staffing resources, and help reduce the pending caseload while still maintaining procedures to identify fraud and protect national security,” said USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou. “This update is consistent with agency priorities to break down barriers in the immigration system, eliminate undue burdens on those seeking benefits, and effectively respond to stakeholder feedback and public concerns.”

Prior policy requiring mandatory CPR interviews did not prove to be an efficient use of USCIS staffing resources. Under this policy update, USCIS may waive the interview requirement if the agency officer determines there is sufficient evidence about the bona fides of the marriage, the joint-filing requirement is eligible for a waiver (if applicable), there is no indication of fraud or misrepresentation in supporting documents, there are no complex facts or issues to resolve, and there is no criminal history that would render the CPR removable.

A noncitizen who obtains permanent resident status based on a marriage that began less than two years before obtaining that status receives permanent resident status on a conditional basis for two years. To remove the conditions on permanent resident status, family-based CPRs generally must file a Form I-751 within the 90-day period before the two-year anniversary of when they obtained CPR status.

This is welcome news! Hopefully this indeed speeds up the processing time for ROCs.

Like someone else said, they can't decide how much to take from a check, they will either take the amount that is written on the check or deny the check completely. So in your case you must've missed to add the amount for both, and only the amount for the passport book. Or you sent two separate checks and they missed one.

Sorry, but I do know what I did. I have a copy of the check (which I wrote for 238.32)  and the transaction amount in my bank statements (which is 208.32). It does not add up I know, but apparently they are able to convert a check to some form of a direct debit.

  11. hello all, for those of you who applied for both the passport book and card, did they cash your full check (cost of book and card together) or separately?

i haven't received my passport card, and it's been two weeks now since I received my passport book. i can see in my bank statement that they only charged me the cost of the book. i called the passport center to inquire and they said they can't check the status of passport card applications and advised me to request for a re-issue (but if they haven't charged me for it, I'm wondering if they never got it in the first place)? what would you do?

hi everyone, thought I'd add my timeline in here. got my passport today, it only took exactly 3 weeks from the day I dropped my application at USPS to passport book in hand. i opted for both expedited processing and shipping (which said 5-7 weeks processing). i guess they are not backlogged anymore? I got old gen version.

how long does it usually take to receive the passport card and naturalization certificate back? hoping I get both soon!

    2/17 USPS drop off

3/22 Received at processing center, status was "in process". Locator: 69 (New Hampshire)

3/8 USPS envelope said passport was shipped this day.

3/9 Passport book in hand. I was checking the status everyday and it did not change at all until today when the passport book was already in my mailbox so to speak. I saw it in Informed Delivery first and when I checked the passport tracking site after, the status just changed to Approved. So it seems like tracking is all over the place.

3/18 Naturalization certificate in hand. So relieved!

My I751 was pending for one year and a half, and about six month ago after my biometric appointment they changed the status “ your case is going to be scheduled for an interview “ , and I after consulting with an  Lawyer online I decided to apply for my n-400 since I was eligible ,thinking they probably going to schedule me for one combo interview . Doesn’t make any logic sense to me how they wold schedule after naturalization interview . My only fear is if they will deny my n400 that day only because  my I751 is still pending. . I will be so pissed of and they gonna have to see me in court with them for sure . I paid for my n400 , and submitted all the evidence they required .

if you pass the n400, they will not deny it...they will however not be able to approve and schedule you for oath until your i751 has been adjudicated. so they will just keep it pending until your 751 is done. if you get an n400 officer who are able to do combo interviews, then that would be better for you so you can hit two birds with one stone. else, since you have already been called for a separate 751 interview, then you may need to appear for that interview as well.
