    Hi Chicago1987

I know it's been a year for you but somehow we're in the same boat. Same issue here. Went on NY local field interview on 3/19. Had RFE issued for Supplement J and delivered the RFE in person on 3/22. Never received any formal confirmation that the RFE was received. What do you recommend me to do? It is impossible to take an infopass appointment in NY. Would you love to hear how / what did you write to congressman.

Thanks a lot for your help

I don't have a recommendation for you. I wrote to my congressman (you just have to find yours - depends on your address). I had a specific reason why I wrote to them - otherwise, I would have waited. Thankfully, our congressman is pro-immigration and decided to contact USCIS - which helped us tremendously. However, unless you have been waiting a very long time or have a legitimate issue they probably will not help you. Let me know if I can be of any more help. You can try to write them - but you need to have a reason why they should reach out on your behalf.

My interview was also at the Chicago field office!

Can you give me any advice on how to get a congressman involved please?

    Thank you.

You have to research who your congressman is. And then you send an email to their office. But they will only act on your behalf if there is a legitimate need to expedite the case. Otherwise they will say that it is well within processing times. Only the congressman in your specific area (where your home address is) can act on your behalf. Depends on the congressman, but some may or may not want to reach out to USCIS.

I had my interview on April 29th and still have not heard anything.

The made an RFE straight away which was responded to in days.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

My lawyer said they have four months before we can chase them.

We also received a RFE at the interview. Based on an InfoPass appointment, we were told the IO waits until the "call up date" to go into the fileroom at the Chicago field office to see if we responded to the RFE. Per research, the call up date is usually a few days after the time passes for which you to send the response - about 87 days is typical. Our interview was 3/21 and our expected call up date was mid June. We had a congressman intervene and were approved 8 days after the email was sent. But otherwise it really is a waiting game. In the RFE notice, it would have stated by which date you have to respond.

  4. Update to our case (check out timeline for more details) - had interview on 3/21 and received an RFE for a missing medical test that was newly required. Per Infopass appointment, our response would not be pulled from the fileroom until the "call up date" - which would have been in early June. We reached out to our Congressman on the 13th.  The aide to the Congressman emailed our local USCIS on the 18th requesting that they expedite the processing of our I-485 - we had a reason why, but it would not be considered a "valid" expedite reason per USCIS. On April 26th  (8 days after she sent the email), our case was approved. USCIS sent texts and emails to us today at 6:45am (4/28) - so there was a 2 day delay in getting notified. Now we are anxiously awaiting the "card is in production" update!

I would try calling again and hopefully you'll talk to a different person with a different answer :) seems there's a lot of people on here that have sent in RFE responses and had their cases move pretty quickly after that. I know it doesn't happen every time but it's definitely possible.

Did they say this is what happens specifically with AOS interview RFE 's? Or all RFEs?

That's what happens for all RFEs issued via the local office. She went back and confirmed our response was sitting in the fileroom. So thankfully we know it physically is sitting there. She told us she can't do anything to speed up the process. She can't contact the IO - my husband tried to give her a "sob" story just to see if she would do something. But unfortunately nothing. We did put out a request to our congressman today. As we were hoping he'd have his legal status by now so that he can apply for student loans to start school full time in the fall. This stupid missing test is pushing back everything, and he may not be able to start full time.

As do we all! But there is nothing strange going on here. .. just a little more patience and it's done! :)

Just a little update on our case - husband went to InfoPass appointment this morning. They stated that when a response to an RFE is received, it goes into the fileroom. When the "call up date" has passed for our specific date, the assigned IO goes to the fileroom looking for the response. They couldn't do anything to push up our case. Based on my research online, the call up date is 87 days from the issuance of the RFE at the local field office. Which would put it at June 16th before the IO even goes looking for our case. How depressing is this :(

    Hey you :)

Can't answer how long it'll take but normally they update it as soon as they recieve it. It'll be updated as a regular rfe and as such should be within a week (for receipt).

I understand the eagerness you have right now being so close to the goal! Just don't worry you are almost there. Congrats on the successful interview :)

Hope you are right. So impatient so I've been researching and read some horror stories.

  8. On 3/21, we had our  AOS interview. IO said that aside from a missing gonorrhea test on our medical, we would have been approved that day. We sent in the response, and local Chicago office received it 3/27 at 7am. Anyone have similar experience? Will status be updated to state response to RFE received? Or will we probably just get  informed when the case is updated to approved? How long does it usually take for the IO to pick up our case  again? Thanks for any help you may have for us!

    Hey guys!

I'm organizing our AOS box for the interview right now and I noticed that my wife's paystubs are still under single! My wife told HR sooo many times that she got married. She even gave them a copy of our marriage certificate and they said they will make sure they change it but yet it still says single on her paystubs :help: Is this going to affect us at the interview? :(

The withholding on the paystub means nothing. It just determines how much withholding comes out of your paycheck. For instance, my parents are married, and due to their necessity for withholding, both are marked as "single" on their paystubs. I don't think this would affect the interview at all. Being marked as single just means they withhold more. It evens itself out when you file your tax returns. So it really doesn't matter.

  10. Wanted to update everyone on our case - as our ending is a bit more unique with a RFE received at the AOS interview for an updated medical form. Interview was 3/21. Local field office received new medical on 3/27. Yesterday (3/27), we received in the mail an approval letter relating to the I-130. The approval is dated 3/21 - same as interview date. I-485 is still pending online - status hasn't updated to show that they received our response. Hopefully we receive the GC is in production update relatively soon! Hopefully the medical doesn't push us back a long time!

Wow, what a pain in the rear to find out after your interview! I got lucky and had my medical done abroad on September 12th, just before it came into effect.

I know! At the interview the IO said: "Here's the situation. I have everything I need to approve you today aside from this one item. I would have put the approval in today if it weren't for this". Sad to think the GC would have probably been arriving this week. Now I'm curious to see how long before the new I-864 that was received today gets back to the IO. I'm hoping the delay isn't too terrible. She wasn't able to tell us how long of a delay it would be - just that it depends on when "they" give her back the case. This process is really a testimony to patience. But when you know the interview is the last step - this final wait is probably the worst now. Oh well... much closer to the end of this process than we were back in November - so can't complain too much :)

  12. Just wanted to keep everyone updated - in case anyone else ends up in our situation. We had our interview on 3/21 (I previously posted about it). We would have been approved per the IO that day, but the medical exam was missing a gonorrhea test. Gonorrhea test was added in August 2016 - and apparently not all immigration doctors have been made aware of this. Our doctor stated he just received a letter last week from USCIS informing him of the new change. PLEASE CHECK YOUR PAPERWORK! We mailed out the update I-864 on Saturday - it was received by the Chicago office this morning at 7am. We mailed it directly to the building where interviews are conducted. We are hoping our case gets updated as soon as possible and to get the coveted - your card is in production message - meaning the GC is in process. :)

Glad to hear that your interview was easy. What type of questions did they ask you?
Also, did your doctor forgot to fill in that part of the form or he did not test you for it?

We don't think he tested. USCIS added the test in August and apparently all the doctors haven't been informed of it. So have to go back.

Nothing too big on the questions - how we met, how long we dated, the proposal, and asked each other what the other one does for a living. Other than that pretty straightforward.
