O well - the check was cashed yesterday so I guess they wont be returning the whole thing to me!

That is crazy! Last week I went to the SSA with my marriage cert an aked them to change it. Everything was processed and she gave me the standard 'wait 48 hrs to update your details with DMV, your card will arrive in 2 weeks and congratualtions'. I think the person who you spoke to is wrong because I havent even received my NOA1 for AOS yet, and there was nothing said about 'DHS being confused'.

We didnt! lol! We filled before the new fees took place asm we were told our marriage cert would be sent afer about 1 month and we wanted to file before the new fees. We sent in a copy of the marriage license and we were given a 'marriage cert' which the minister filled in, which is bascially the certified marriage cert without the notary! We are expecting a RFE, but at least we didnt pay the higher fees! The annoying thing is that the actual certified marriage cert arrived only 1 week after and that was without payin anything extra for a fast service!!!

Lets hope they dont reject your entire packet and return it to you, because without that marriage certificate you have no basis for filling for AOS.... if they do you will have to refile with the new fee...

Even without the 'certified' marriage cert it's pretty obvious that we got married, infact, it even has the state of nv seal, and like I said, it's eactly the same as the certified copy, except it doesnt have a raised seal, which wouldn't show on a photocopy that well. I'm sure they dont go though the applicaton with a fine tooth comb when they first receive it, just find the check, make sure its the correct amount, issue a NOA1 and put it aside until someone starts looking at it.

They do check your application for completeness before they issue the NOA1... but lets hope your right....

It wasnt sneaky tactics - we got married on July 12th - we were tod that it would take over 1 month to get the 'official' certificate - why should we have to pay higher fee if we did legally get married before that date? The cert number on the certificate we gave them is even the number of the certified one. In all realiy all they need to do is type in the County Clark website address and search the certificate number and see that we are legally registered as married

I was very surprised and happy when I flicked onto BBC america and saw that they show Hollyoaks 5 day a week! lol! It's only about 6 months behind the UK so soon I'll be watching episodes I havent seen!lol!

O yea - we expect a RFE - we just dont think its going to be returned to us and that we'll have to submit a whole new application

We actually received the certified copy a few days afer we sent the AOS out. I'm sure you're's will turn up any day now

Wow - so when we have kids, everytime want to take MY children to visit the UK, or anywhere else I have to have written permission from my husband to do that? That seems crazy! lol!!

Yes you can drive in the UK on a US license but not a Manual car only automatic and if you are hiring a car you will pay higher rental prices for a automatic and you will pay higher insurance...

Try renting a car in the UK with a US license and you will only be allowed to rent a Automatic... unless your license says you are authorized to drive a manual.... same in the UK if you pass your test in an automatic then you can only drive an automatic... and foreign license holders pay higher insurance than UK license holders....

Maybe it dffers from rental company to rental company but Jamal was offered a manual car in the UK on a US license, but he cant drive manual so he had to get an automatic.

I was just wondering if its possible to re-schedule the bio appointments? The reason I ask is because looking at peoples timeslines it looks like my bio appointment may be scheduled around the time I'm due to start college. I'm worried that it'll fall on my 1st day of college, which would be very hard for me to miss! I know i'm being negitive, but i'm justt wondering how accommodating they are to re-scheduling appointments in events like that?

The first time me and Jamal spoke was online - I think he sent me a message on facepic as he was going to be stationed in England for 2 years. We met a few weeks later in London when I showed him the sights of the capital! We remained friends for 6 months and when I moved to London we finally decided to get together and we visited each other everyweekend. 10 months of weekend trips to London or Newmarket, I finally moved in with him!

Are you applying for a K1 or AOS? Your timeline shows that you are going through the K1 visa application?

I'm going through the same thing and we got married in Vegas too! 2 days ago I went to change my name with SSA. They advised me to wait 48 before going to get my name changed with DMV. I've been added onto my husbands bank accounts with my new name and I have received a military spouse ID with my new married name, so all my health insurance etc will be in that. I think that I will keep my maiden name on my passport though, only coz I dont want to have to get a new one!!!!

I changed my name with SSA 2 days ago. I need to go to the DMV within 10 days to get my name changed on my license. The thing is I'm waiting for my NOA1 for AOS which I sent off on July 16th and was received at Chicago July 18th. Once I have my NOA1 I cn then get my license extended for 1 year as it is due to expire next month (when my I-94 expires). Should I just wait for the NOA1 before going to the DMV to get my name changed so I can do it all at once? I dont want to keep returning to the DMV, and they might get funny if they see I have less than 1 month until my license expires. Do you guys think that I will receive my NOA1 within 8 days? Thanks

Me and Jamal decided to brighten up our apartment by printing some of the photos that I've taken on my travels and framing them. I submitted only 4 (they were expensive!!) 8x10 photos to Walgreens online to go and pick them up within the hour. When i arrived at Walgreens to collect them the lady behind the counter looked at me and said 'Do you have proof that you took these? Unfortunatly we cannot print other peoples work for you'. I was taken aback and was like 'Huh? I took those myself, they're my photos!!'. She looked at me and asked for a professional photographers card, to proove that I was professional photographer! I advised her that I didnt have a card as I wasnt a professional photographer! She then went back to the speil about not being able to print professional photos unless I have proof that I took them or if I had one of those cards! I was in shock! I didnt have any proof as I took the photos on my trip to Costa Rica in November and I had erased them of my memory card and they were on my computer. She then started asking me questions about the camera I used! It isn't even a great camera - just a Canon Powershot S3. She finally gave in and told me that she would print the photos, but handed me a form to complete bascially saying that I need to confirm I took the photos and that if it was found otherwise, I would be prosecuted!

It was very annoying and I was worried that I'd not be able to print my photos, but it suddenly dawned on me that it was a great compliment. I've always loved photography and this little incident has made me want to go out there and start taking more pictures!!!!

Ok, so we're thinking way in advance, but we wanted to get everything ready before we have an interview (which I'm almost convinced we will as our local office seems to interview everyone!) I just wanted to check if we evidence we have already will be enough, or if we should work at getting more! ok - so at the moment we have;

Joint auto insurance

We're both on our apartment lease

Joint bank accounts (checking and savings)

I'm an authorized user of his credit card

I have a military spouse ID

I'm on his life insurance

I'm on his health insurance

All utilities except electricity in both our names

100's photos (and I'm sure many more to come)

Wedding photos

We were thinking of adding me on to the auto loan (for my car) as well.

Do you guys think that this should be sufficiant and we can sit back and relax until the interview or do you think we should get some more things together??

I guess it depends on the apartment complex. I waited until after we got married and was added onto my husbands bank account until I summoned up the courage to submit my application for being added onto the lease. They were really nice, they knew that my credit check would be declined as I was so new to the country, so they didnt do one!! They checked my criminal background which came back all good so they were happy to add me as a co-signatory. All I needed to do was submit a copy of my DL and Social Security Card. I also advised them that I was a student (I'll be starting community college full time in the fall) and I think they liked the sound of that rather than unemployed!

well, we got married and the minister who did our ceremony wasnt very helpful with spedding the process up and just told us that we should expect it after around 4 weeks once we sent the pink slip off. We sent the slip off while we were still in Vegas and went home. Not wanting to miss out on sending AOS before the fees increase we sent the AOS package off with a photocopy of the 'marriage certificate' we were given at the actual wedding, knowing that we probably will receive a RFE, but at least we wont be paying the higher fees! Well, yesterday we got the mail and guess what was in it? 2 certified marriage certificates from County Clark! It took a total of 1 week and 2 days! And that was without paying any xtra than the $10 per certified certificate!! If only we'd waited to send the AOS!!!!! ....
