We called yesterday to get an appointment for stamp in passport and were told that they only schedule it if it is within 10 days of expiring. Is this true?

It all depends who answers the phone, honestly. We called 30 days before expiration (Aug 10th) and they scheduled an appointment for Aug 26th, but it was a process getting to that point.

The initial person who answers screens the call and will likely tell you to call later if they think it’s not an emergency, we had to talk to 3 people before someone said they’ll have an officer call. The actual officer was so nice and didn’t question anything at all about why we needed the appointment, they just made the appointment. The way USCIS works just confuses me..

Moved to Charlotte, NC from NJ. Interview scheduled immediately after filing for address change. Interview Date = Early September.

Wondering if they will find a way to screw us because we have not been in NC for 3 months prior to interview. Anybody got any opinion on this?

We had been in NJ for 3 years before filing i751 - so no issues on that side.

You have to live at the address for 3 months before you file, once it’s filed it doesn’t matter if you move, but I thought residency rules applied only to N400. We filed N400 in PA and moved to NJ two weeks later, we were told we’d just need to show proof of address at the interview (that we still haven’t been to).

You’re lucky to escape the endless wait in NJ. It’ll be 21 months of waiting for us in September, I’m not sure we’ll see an approved I751 this year...

Hello, long time updating because there has been no news and still no news. I have had zero luck with this part of the process, I called USCIS a few weeks ago as my extension was due to expire, today as it happens, as does my driver’s license and I was told that I don’t need a new one nor do I need a stamp as my status is removing conditions. I have remained patient and only called as I needed to about being out of status, they say that it cannot be escalated because it is still within normal processing times but it seriously sucks. Coming up on 2 years, contemplating on citizenship more and more the longer I wait. It amazes me that they do not process applications in order of receipt, if they really are just processing receipts of May 2018, then how the heck are people after that getting theirs! Just rhetorical but that’s my point of their statements. I would really feel better if I had some proof of eligibility but they won’t provide it, I feel it’s a lose lose situation right now.

I think it’s crazy that USCIS is telling everyone something different about stamps and expired extension letters, if you call them again you’re likely to get a totally different story. You can get a stamp and an infopass appointment, but they (the person on the phone) has to deem it an emergency, there’s no set standard for getting a stamp. We were able to get an appointment after explaining our situation to three different people, someone finally said we could get one. Where we live licenses aren’t just being extended and it would be a financial hardship if my husband weren’t able to go to work everyday so the license is an emergency.

Still think it’s ridiculous USCIS couldn’t extended the letters with some kind of proof, they literally could’ve just given another letter. It’s also ridiculous I’ve seen I751’s filed in 2020 that have been approved and we’ve been waiting nearly two years... not fair.

One day someone who can afford a good lawyer is going to sue over these kind of things and win big.

Thank you so much for replying. I would like to ask how do you reach a tier 2 officer? Do the agents connect the call right away?

I know right. Especially during this pandemic, where the offices limits the people going in and out inside their facility. :(

My husband would call and ask to speak to a supervisor (or just ask for tier 2) as soon as they answered the phone, we learned to not even bother explaining anything to the initial person who answers. They do connect the call, but we usually wait on hold about 10 minutes.

It seems it’s up to the person you speak to deem your situation an emergency or not. Two officers told us to call back when the letter actually expires and one was really nice and said no problem I’ll have someone call you to set up an appointment. The process of trying to set up the appointment is such a hassle and so stressful.

Hopefully your case can get approved before your extension runs out.  Good luck!

Hello guys, I hope everyone is doing well.

I would like to share my current situation.

I have a pending I-751, filed last Feb 2019. Then I applied N-400 Feb 2020. I thought my application would speed things up but based on what's happening, I think it is the other way around.

Anyway, my current situation is my husband and I are expecting our second baby. We are so happy about it! What worries me is about my paperworks - extension letter expiring in 3 months, and I also think I might need my 10 yr green card for me and my baby's insurance. Also for hospital, WIC application, and any other paperworks that asks about my legal status here in the US.

I tried contacting the USCIS customer service - telling me the generic reply/ also hearing about them not giving passport stamp appointment because it is not considered 'emergency'.

Also the CIS Ombudsman - telling me that my case is not qualified for expedite.

My only hope is the senator's assistant that I contacted last week.. but based on my experience, she will also just rely the USCIS generic message to me as a response.

I hope someone can enlighten me about my situation. I also hope I will be finished before I give birth.

    Thank you.. stay safe!

Unfortunately, no one at USCIS will do anything until you’re in a 30 day window of the extension letter expiring. That’s what we were told and once you’re in that window call every day (or multiple times a day, that’s what we did) and talk to a tier 2 officer until someone agrees to make an infopass appointment for you, that’s what worked for us.

I think your situation would qualify as an emergency, but they’d still only see you immediately before the letter expires.

I wish they’d just automatically extend the extension letter again. They’re really messing with some people.

I called again uscis today and was told my case is at NBC, not even at local office.  :(

I see you have the same local office and filed a few days before us, I was hoping to see you get scheduled soon. I don't really see anyone being scheduled in Mount Laurel or NJ in general. That's really weird though, our case has been sitting in Mount Laurel since January.  What does your case status say on your account?

Anyone’s time increased once there timer ran out? My completion time was “September 2020” it updated today and now is showing completion time “December 2020”!!!?? This process is making me go crazy! I won’t be able to vote this year! This is ****** ridiculous!!! 🤬
my estimated wait time also expired but now they updated it showing “Estimated Wait Time 2 months”?!?!

My husbands estimated completion date was July 2020 and well that didn’t happen. Perhaps you’re getting a more honest estimate, atleast that’s better than getting your hopes up all month for nothing to happen at all, but I do agree it’s absolutely ridiculous.

now they want a written letter from Georgia DMV stating that they cannot renew my driver's license. I am not even sure I can get one. not only that there are no open dates for an appointment in DMV offices before my driver's license expires. and I was told about this letter only today, talked to maybe 5 different agents and none of them ever mentioned this.

It's just absolutely infuriating. We all paid ~1500 dollars on naturalization and 10 year green card and they won't even put a simple stamp.

What is very odd and also annoying is that some people claim they had absolutely no problem getting an infopass appointment without reason or even for renewing their drivers licenses and some people are getting a hard time about it.

Something seems off here, honestly. I don’t understand why there isn’t one standard procedure for an infopass/extending green cards that applies to everyone.

USCIS will eventually get sued over this especially if they keep picking and choosing who can get an appointment. They need to extended the extension again if they’re going to keep messing around. No reason they can’t approve these green cards and interview for N400 at a later date.

My wife's extension was going to expire early August and we call USCIS to ask about it. They scheduled an infopass at the field office and gave us a i-551 stamp in her passport with another year extension. Only thing they take your green card. I highly recommend trying to get that done now so u don't have to worry about the extension letter expiring while waiting processing.

Did they give you a hard time about scheduling an infopass? I’ve heard many people say they have a hard time getting one without having an emergency.

My husbands estimated completion date says July 2020... we have about 15 days to find out how accurate it is.

The estimated wait time has said “we’re taking longer than expected” for months now.

Good luck! I hope this journey can be over soon for all of us!

On the 15th our estimated date of completion just disappeared. Assuming that the estimated case completion date held no value either, just says taking longer than expected now 😔

    Hi everyone,

I submitted my N-400 on 2/5/2020 and the Estimated case completion time shown on my case is August,2020 (as you can see on the screenshot), and the Estimated wait time for the next step is 1 DAY (so excited to know what's gonna happen tomorrow😂). Since today is 7/12/2020 and I am still waiting for the interview to be scheduled, I can not imagine how this case can be completed in a month by August 2020. Do you guys know how accurate and meaningful the estimated dates on the screenshot could be? I would be very grateful if I could finish the whole naturalization process by the end of this year considering the surging pandemic in FL. Fingers crossed!  Good luck to everyone of you!

Pending 19 months and now 7 months without any update.... fully believe the n400 stalled this process to the fullest of this would’ve been done back in December. Really really regret applying for n400 because at this rate maybe my i751 will be approved in 2021

If you were a Vermont filer put in a service inquiry, the date out of normal processing time is well into February 2019 now. I’ve put in two already and after both they updated the n400. After the first inquiry they finally acknowledged receipt of RFE and after the second a few days ago the n400 changed to we are actively reviewing the case. The service responses always state the i751 is in line with n400 for an interview, so yeah we regret applying together too, but obviously we didn’t expect Covid to happen. completion date is still July 2020 in mount laurel so 20 days will tell, but I have a feeling in 30 days we’ll have to start harassing uscis for an infopass appointment...

Hello guys, just wondering, how soon you got your biometrics appointment when filled back in Dec 2019? Yes, I know, now things are different but still...did you receive the letter at the portal in approximately 2 weeks after submitting or less? Thanks and good luck everyone!

It was a few days. Applied Tuesday night and got notification of the appointment that Saturday on the account. If only the whole process was that smooth.

This process is so frustrating. They have had my response from request for evidence since February and yet I still have no update on my case. I found info on the USCIS sight that said they would respond to evidence within 60 days, however the form won't let me submit an outside normal processing because California estimate is 13- 27 months (even though my case was transferred elsewhere). I mean.... 27 months. So we just wait until May 2021 until we can even request info on something we filed in Feb 2019?! My letter of 18 months expires in Sept 2020 I think.

Meanwhile my Citizenship estimate when I log in Says Nov 2020 (4 months from now!) which is obviously never going to happen!

All that said, I will just sit patiently waiting like everyone else, because that is the only choice we have anyway!

    Good luck everyone.

The process is beyond frustrating, they’ve left us all clueless. Sometimes I feel like immigration services completely fell through but they’re not telling us.

I751 has been pending since December 2018 with no updates since this January, service request gave no new info. N400 pending since December 2019. Extension letter running out soon and I hear people have to jump through hoops to get proof of status after it expires to continue their lives.

My husbands N400 completion date says July 2020, that’s an even bigger joke. You might have a chance for November, but July? Definitely, not happening Good luck!

Thanks B&H.  Unfortunately NJ did not give automatic extension for drivers licenses as they are opening DMV on July 7. The USCIS reps told me that I need to document a loss of benefit, family member, employment, or urgent need to travel, etc to get an info pass.

I guess we will have to wait and hope that USCIS start adjudicating our applications. If they have not taken forever to decide on our cases, I would not be in this situation. It seems that there is nothing to be done other than waiting.

    Thanks for the recommendation anyways.

My husbands NJ driver license expires the day the extension expires. It’s so frustrating not to have a clue about what to do in this situation and upsetting that USCIS appears not to care about how this is disrupting people’s lives. A drivers license here is imperative to employment imo. They conveniently don’t do infopass, now that they’re needed most?

Some advice from experience, call uscis and ask to speak to a tier 2 employee or higher (you’ll likely wait longer but it’s worth it). The people who initially answer the phone pretty much read from a script and won’t give you any actual answers.

If you can, please share what type of additional information you were asked to submit.   Was it information that was required or was it just miscellaneous information?

It specifically asked for all the documents uploaded online originally to be resubmitted in paper form and sent to the Mount Laurel office. It didn’t say why. It also asked for birth certificates of children, 2 affidavits from family saying we’ve been married for 3 years and in good faith. We don’t have children so we just wrote a short statement that we didn’t and both signed it.

They didn’t ask for, but I also included recent joint bank statement, our new lease, and our  NJ licenses (being we moved from out of state right after filing N400).

  17. Case status changed today to “On June 24, 2020 request for additional evidence has been received.”

Also, estimated completion date came back as July 2020 (not that I hold any faith in that date, but it’s on there again) and at the bottom it says all evidence submitted.

This evidence was submitted a month and a half ago, hopefully this means they’re getting closer to scheduling interviews again in NJ.

Thats good news now the waiting game contiunes atleast you know where is your file

Did the webdite also mentioned its in local office ? Or only your inquiry revelad this info ?

The website has said transferred to the local office since January, that was the last update received for the I751. Unfortunately the inquiry didn’t show any new info that we didn’t already know.
