  1. Hi fellow March 2016 FIlers! Packet sent on 3/14/16 and USCIS received it yesterday. I hope I got everything right since we did the application ourselves.

Any suggestions on what to do while waiting? It's driving me crazy since before they got it I can refresh USPS tracking site.. and now nothing.

Knitting or yoga?? LOL! The waiting has really been the hardest part. Good luck!

  2. Yes it's strange that some people can get it and others can't. We were able to get one for my husband. It says "can't work without DHS authorization". We still don't have a driver's license. According to the North Dakota DOT website he's gotta have his Greencard AND EAD card...which we obviously don't have. This doesn't bother us too much since without the GC the license expires in a year so...might as well wait to get the GC

BUT when I went in to change my DL to reflect my new married name, I asked the lady who was helping me if my husband can drive with his foreign DL. She said that he can no problem. The only thing is that with insurance, he's not covered for accidents or anything, even though I was able to add him.

Therefore when he DOES drive...he does so VERY carefully. Thank goodness North Dakota is not known for heavy traffic and crazy drivers lol

According to the Website for North Dakota DMV it looks like he only needs his EAD and Social security card. It doesnt say you need booth. Why would someone have a green card and an EAD at the same time anyway? I would call someone and check.

  3. I was under the impression that you my husband could get a drivers license without his greencard as long as he had a social security number. But now that you mention it when I took my step daughter to get her Permit they made us come back with her green card. Grrrrr! I was so excited for the day when I could stop driving him everywhere!

ETA: I just checked NYS DMV and it allows you to use a EAD card in lieu of greencard with a bunch of other supporting documents.

  4. Got the AOS/EAD package sent out on 3/10 and have now joined the waiting game with you all. :) Expecting a text/email notification ANY TIME NOW.

The waiting is definitely less stressful this time though - since I am with my sweetheart.

My mind keeps going through all the mistakes I may have made in filling out/assembling the packet. (i.e. N/A vs. None vs. blank space & 2 photos or 4!) But, honestly, I'm so happy to have gotten the thing out. If I get an RFE, so be it.

I look forward to hearing how it goes for everyone.

I am doing the same thing! I may have developed OCD filling the forms out. Especially on the ones that did not allow me to type in some of the answers so I could not write none. If you can actually figure out what all the questions mean and get through it all without cracking you should be granted automatic citizenship as a prize lol.

  5. The Emails that I received said at the bottom to wait until you receive hard copies of the receipt notice or 7-10 days to check the case status. So I think it is normal not to work and some people just get lucky. Is it possible that it coorelates with whether you are active in the system or not? As if you already had a case when applying for your VISA? My spouse has no active case because he came here on a tourist VISA. So we filed the I130 and I485 concurrently starting a brand new case.

  6. I was just reading through here to see if you had received anything. I wouldn't go crazy yet (I know easier said than done). I did notice one or two people who had filed after me and received notices first.

Congratulations! and now I officially think there is a problem with mine, it is so weird I got nothing yet or there is no logic in the way they process packets when they receive them...This is making me so frustrated...

  7. My were delivered the day after you. I haven't heard anything yet either. Looking at others timelines it seems like there isn't anything to worry about yet.

We approximately have the same dates. However I don't understand, in my case , the check hasn't been cashed yet and so no NOA so far either... They received my packet 03/04/16... When should I be concerned about contacting USCIS? I feel like everyone is having their NOA but not me :( :(

  8. Not to burst your bubble...but as a PO who handles interstate transfers daily I just want to warn you that very few interstate transfers are approved. Like 1/20ish. Interstate compacts are a federal set of rules that must be met and exclude most parolees or probationers. Only very specific cases are eligible. And most misdemeanors unless they involve a violent crime or sex offense are not. You must be moving because your job was transferred, or your family (Specifically immediate family and not a boyfriend or fiance) live there and have been there for six months or more. You need a financial sponsor, a job lined up and an agency willing to accept you. And you must have a certain amount of time left on your sentence. You should really look deeply into whether her transfer will actually be approved before you send off anything. because in the end even if she has the nicest, most cooperative PO the ICAOS could still reject it.

  9. My husband overstayed his tourist VISA by six years. Lawyers always tell us you must use an attorney. I think they are just trying to drum up business. Because with some research, common sense and a lot of very helpful posts made by others on this website I was able to get everything filled out myself and sent in. The only mistake I know I made so far is using ACCO fasteners lol. I misread the dont use them for the Chicago lockbox as use them. Hopefully it won't be a big problem. Good luck!
