Thanks a lot! All income for 2019 is subject to the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion in our case so not too worried about tax optimization.
-
Thanks a lot for the swift reply!
If I go with option 2, what should I write under "Spouse Social Security Number" on the tax return ?
In the past, we wrote "NRA" as I was a non resident alien. Should I do the same as I was a NRA in 2019 as well even though I do have a SSN now?

Hi everyone, I'm a bit confused regarding filing taxes for 2019.
Here's my situation:
- Married to USC
- Green card holder (IR1 stamped in February 2020)
- Lived abroad with my wife for the last couple of years and she filed her taxes as married filing separately
My question is related to filing for 2019. As I wasn't a permanent resident yet in 2019, am I right to assume that I shouldn't file? Can my wife file as "married filing jointly"?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi everyone, I recently obtained my IR-1 visa (visa in my passport already) and planning to enter the US in February.
Will I be asked for a health insurance at POE?
Additionally, any recommendations for a temporary new immigrant insurance?
Thanks in advance for your replies 😀

Hi everyone, I received my IR-1 visa recently (already got my passport back with the visa) and planning to move in January or February of 2020 before its expiration.
Do I have to do anything at this point? Will the immigration officer at the point of entry ask me for proof of insurance?

Hi there,
I am not sure if you got answers to your above query but I guess u should be prepared for ur interview by now. I have got my IL today and the interview is 8th Sep in Abudhabi. All the best for ur upcoming interview and pls pls do share details of me of the enviornment there and the questions asked. I am bugging u specially as ur the only one I can find who has an upcoming interview in AbuDhabi for immigration of US.
I would like to know one thing from you. After receiving email of interview from NVC did you login and registered your appointment online at Abudhabi US embassy? Is it like mandatory to do ? Because I tried and its not accepting my case number I guess may be as I got email today only and its friday so it will take time to update their system or so. Please do let me know about registering appointment online.
Hi! yes sure, thing. I will definitely share my experience. And thank you)) Fingers crossed for all of us!
Yes, I had to register my appointment. In my case, I had to wait a few hours and in your case, the weekend is most probably affecting your registration. Try again Saturday or Sunday I guess. Best of luck!!

Hi everyone,
For those who've interviews in Abu Dhabi, can you please let me know the following (I have my IR-1 interview coming up very soon):
- How long in advance did you arrive?
- Is the waiting area outside shaded? It's particularly hot right now in the UE
- Did you have to bring your X-ray envelope? I know it says no on the instructions but just want to double check
- How long did the whole process take you?
- How was the general atmosphere?
Thanks a lot!

i had similar experiences at the embassy yesterday. The Consular officer gave me a blue 221g letter advising me to return with original documents of my divorce decree on sunday 2 pm, has anyone had such experience here in Abu Dhabi
Sorry to hear this...In the official requirements, is it written that they require a copy only?
Can you also please share your overall experience for your interview. Thanks a lot in advance.

Did you manage to solve this and get approved?

Hi my wife live in usa and i am in uae. I been with her in usa 3 times and she visited me here 2 times. We dont have joint bank account as we dont live in same place but she add me to her health insurance and i received card. The consul was interested about messenger chat and got it and seen photo album but didnt want to keep it and didnt want to see email.
The temporary refusal asks for more evidence of relationship but the consul ask to wait for review.
I am working now to get more evidence of chatting and photos. Please advise me
Sorry to hear that! I think pictures from your wedding with guests and family will really help as well as planes/hotels reservations together. Good luck and hope the process will end soon and successfully for you.

Can you tell us more about your case? Is your spouse also living in the UAE with you or is in the US? For how long have you been married? Any joint bank accounts or property?

Yes, I am starting to look into the procedure and see how it goes.
However, do you think that my original document (handwritten) will be accepted by the NVC and the consulate? I mean this is truly my original birth certificate so it should be accepted, no? Even though it's not the "latest format". Any thoughts?
-
Hi everyone,
Here's an update on our case:
- All documents uploaded to NVC on May 27th
- Everything approved except birth certificate (explanation below)
I am applying as a French citizen but I was born in Romania. I initially uploaded a birth certificate delivered by the french government for people born outside of France (I thought this is the one required).
However, the NVC rejected it. I called the NVC yesterday and was told they need a Romanian one.
Here comes the problem: I do have my old romanian birth certificate dating from 1989 but it is handwritten. The format required by the NVC is a new electronic version (not handwritten). The problem is that I can't request for this as I don't have any Romanian ID/Passport.
I uploaded my old one and waiting to hear back from them...If they refuse it, what could I possibly do?
Thanks!
FBAR for the year before becoming permanent resident
in Tax & Finances During US Immigration
Posted
Hi everyone, I'm a bit confused regarding my FBAR requirements for 2019.
Here's my situation:
- Married to USC
- Green card holder (IR1 stamped in February 2020)
- Lived abroad with my wife for the last couple of years before our move to the US in February 2020
My question is related to filing the FBAR for 2019. As I wasn't a permanent resident yet in 2019 (entered the US in February 2020 and IR1 stamped then), am I right to assume that I shouldn't file the FBAR for that year?
Thanks a lot in advance!
