It was better than I expected, I was pretty nervous.  Had an appointment at 10am, got there about thirty minutes before and was actually called in about ten minutes before my time.  The Officer was very friendly, took my photo and fingerprints first.  Then we did the civics test, I got the first six right so she stopped (as you only need six out of ten ).  Next I read a sentence, wrote one then she just went through my n400 form with me.  Got to the end and she told me she was pleased to inform me that I’d be recommended to become a citizen and that they would send me a date and time for the oath ceremony in the post.

Whole thing took about 20minutes, and I was back in my car and heading home by 10:15am.  About ten minutes into the journey I got an email saying my case had been updated and that turned out to be my appointment for the oath ceremony.

Overall a much better experience than I expected and it feels like a weight has been lifted. Seems quite odd to be approaching the end of a long journey!

I had my interview on Saturday (18th) in Philadelphia, all went well and my Oath ceremony is on June 11th.  When I left my interview they said I’d receive a letter however not ten minutes later I had an email saying there was an update to my case.  So I checked online and the letter was there.  😊

5 year rule is general provision, not related to employment. Anybody can apply under 5 year rule when they're a resident for 5 years, even the ones married to US citizens if desired.

I applied on 03/31 online and just received my noticed that my interview has been scheduled for 06/25 (Detroit). However, I will be out of state that day on training.
Anyone familiar with the rescheduling process? I called and was told I will receive a call once my reschedule request has been approved and then I get put back in the queue  does that mean I wait another 6 weeks for an appointment?
I will be at an important work trip and everything has been booked, or I would not be rescheduling.
    Thanks all!

Here's an update on my case:
    Filed 3/29.
    Interview scheduled 4/1.
    Interview on 5/7.
Had interview and Oath Ceremony with the officer yesterday and am now a US Citizen!

This was in the Boise, ID office and the Oath was just between me and the officer + my family. Took 1,5 hour from entering the building until I was out as a USC!
    Quick and easy, great staff!

Now I can be done with this USCIS stuff forever!

    Hello everyone!

I just wanted to share my timeline.

    March 11 applied
    March 29 biometrics
    April 1 interview scheduled
    May 7 interview
Outcome: approved and waiting for oath ceremony to be scheduled.

This is the St. Louis field office but I live across the river in Belleville. Really hoping the oath ceremony doesn't take too long as I've heard some horror stories. 😬

Filed 3/26/24. Got our notice, interview scheduled for 6/12/24 in Detroit. Super excited for the Mrs. All she has left to do is knock the interview out of the park and attend her oath ceremony. One more 3 ring binder to complete with documents, attachments and proof.

Filed the N-400 on 3/29, received the first note on 4/1 and got an update of reusing biometrics and interview scheduled on 5/7!
    Boom, that was fast!
According to friends in the region, Idaho, everybody who do the interview gets their Oath Ceremony on the same day. Might be done with this USCIS stuff in less than a month!

The IO should review the entire N400 form with you at the interview.  I do not have first hand knowledge if you can request a name change at that time, but I believe you can.

My cousins had their interviews in early February, and had their judicial oath a little more than two weeks later.  Detroit runs their oath ceremonies at the federal courthouse in Detroit.  No cell phones allowed, but they do allow tablets.

    Good Luck!

Lupecita reacted to Dashinka in Venezuelan in process of naturalization, question on name change
You are running through the Detroit USCIS office correct?  Don’t worry about the name change, Detroit only does judicial oaths, so a name change does not delay anything.  My cousins applied in late November 2023 with a family name change, and had their oaths on February 22, 2024, so Detroit is fairly fast.

    Good Luck!

Lupecita reacted to Dashinka in Venezuelan in process of naturalization, question on name change
Each USCIS office is different.  Detroit only does judicial oaths.  Also, you inferred one can only change their last names through the N400 which is not correct.  A name change via the N400 allows one to change their entire name if they so desire.

That’s the way I understood it too. I’m just not wanting to delay the ceremony waiting for a judge, from what I heard it’s faster if you’re not changing your name. We shall see. Thanks for your input.

Ufff -- some of them -- ufff.
A lot harder to say "Maria de Jesús" than "Marichuy," for just one.

Consider issues that may arise when you need to renew your Venezolano passport:  would there be any if you changed your name here?
  21. Thanks
Lupecita reacted to Dashinka in Venezuelan in process of naturalization, question on name change
Naturalization comes with the option to legally change one’s name including one’s first/given name.  Marriage only allows for a change of family name(s).
  22. Thanks
Lupecita reacted to Crazy Cat in Venezuelan in process of naturalization, question on name change
It appears Venezuela (as does the US) requires you, as a dual citizen, to enter and exit that country with a Venezuela passport.  I don't see an issue.  You just present your Venezuela passport when you arrive there.  You will present a US passport when arriving back in the US.

Lupecita reacted to JeanneAdil in Venezuelan in process of naturalization, question on name change
You can change last name to married name even hyphenate both surnames or middle and last thru the N400 but changing your 1st  name usually requires a court document

How much does it cost to legally change your first name in the US?   between $50 and $500 Generally, you can expect to pay anywhere between $50 and $500 to obtain a court order to change your name. However, the cost of changing your name will depend on several factors, including what state you live in, why you're changing your name, and which methods you use to complete the change request process.   this does not alter the name on birth certificate
  24. Thanks
Lupecita reacted to Dashinka in Venezuelan in process of naturalization, question on name change
Should not be an issue.  My wife changed her name when we married, but her Russian passport still has her own name, and she never has any issues.  Also, my cousins recently naturalized with a name change, but will not change their Russian passports.  Just keep a copy of your Nat. certificate when traveling to Venezuela in case anyone questions the difference.

    Good Luck!

I received my I-797 (NOA) extending my residency today, 01/19, dated 01/14 which includes one holiday (MLK 01/18), my check was also cashed today. I'm very impressed, I thought it was going to be weeks.
