I went to my oath ceremony today. It went for one hour and a half after all the attendees checked in. There were 118 applicants from 40 different countries. I was the only one from my country of origin. It was very beautiful. Some people stood up and said some words on the microphone. I'm quite shy, so I chose not to do that. I'm more of a writer than a speaker, so I wrote about the whole immigration from journey from day one through today on my blog. I used my chance to register to vote right after the ceremony. I'll apply later today for my US passport.

This forum has been very helpful for the past four years. I'm very grateful to have found my place here in America. I want to thank all of you for sharing your advise and experiences. Good luck to the ones that are not done yet!

The reason I asked you is because I've noticed that when the I-751 is pending and one files N-400, the I-751 is transferred to NBC. That seems to indicate that the N-400 interview will be a combo interview.

When I got my instructions for the N-400 interview, there was no mention of a combo interview. I still went prepared in case it was, and it was indeed a combo interview, so I'd be prepared for it if I were you.

Yes, I filed it online. Once you submit the form, you're asked to upload a series of documents. I chose to upload a signed document explicitly requesting a combo interview. Let me know if you have further questions!

It looks like CSC is currently taking between 16 and 22.5 months to process I-751 petitions.

Those of you who filed N-400 while I-751 is pending will likely have a combo interview. That's how mine went. I had my N-400 biometrics in early May, but didn't get the interview letter until late October.

It's all about waiting. Waiting is patience. Patience is key. I know how you all feel.

Yes, my spouse and I were interviewed together. We were asked how we met, when did we get married, what we did for a living, and the places where we had lived before coming to Salt Lake City. It was very pleasant and laid back. None of the questions were "tricky" or "too private" if you know what I mean. 😉

I forgot to mention that I also had this same concern. My original prediction for the N-400 completion was June 2020, even though my I-751 only extended my GC until January 2020. I find those predictions to be very conservative. However, since each case is unique, one can never really know.

When my I-751 was approved, the case was updated and explained that my new green card was going to be produced. I wonder if that'll actually happen because it's very likely that I become a citizen before my GC extension expires. I was approved on Wednesday and now I'm waiting to know when the oath ceremony will take place.

When you're asked to attach additional documents after completing the N-400 form online, that's a chance to include a signed letter making such request. I worded something like:

"I have a pending I-751 petition pending, so I’d like to request to have both the I-751 and N-400 adjudicated at the same time (if possible). Please find attached a copy of the I-751 receipt notice."

You might still be able to do this and upload it via the my[dot]uscis[dot]gov since you filed the N-400 online.

My experience here is very similar to yours. My I-751 case was also transferred to NBC after I attended the biometrics for the N-400. I never got an update on the I-751 until the officer approved it at the N-400 interview.

When I received the interview letter for the N-400, no mention of the I-751 was ever made. I still counted on a combo interview. Even though the instructions for the N-400 interview didn't mention anything, I brought my spouse to the interview and some additional documents for the I-751, such as our new lease, some utility bills and the tax transcripts of the last three years. The I-751 was approved on the spot before we proceeded to the N-400 part.

Had I stuck to the N-400 instructions, which didn't ask me to bring my spouse to the interview and no supporting documents for the I-751, the I-751 case would likely still be pending today.

Since you filed the N-400 online, you'll be able to upload more documents, including a signed letter like I did. If your next update is the interview letter for the N-400 and there is no mention of the I-751, I recommend you bring your US spouse to the interview along with supporting documentation. Therefore, count on a combo interview (even if you're never told about it) unless your I-751 is approved before.

The officer approved the I-751, and the system now says that my new green card is being produced. I wonder if that's true considering that my oath ceremony should take place in 1-2 months at the latest, and my conditional green card was extended up until late January 2020 when I filed to remove conditions in July 2018.

My N-400 was also approved, and now I'm waiting to know when will the ceremony take place 😊

My husband and I waited for an hour until we were called. We stayed together throughout the whole interview.

The first part focused on the I-751. Even though my instructions for the interview mentioned nothing about the I-751, I brought some more supporting evidence just in case. I had the feeling it was going to be a combo interview. I had requested it when I filed the N-400 but never got any confirmation whether that had been granted or not. I answered some questions that I had already dealt with when I filled in the form and confirmed my name change and personal/contact data. I pledged allegiance and signed on a tablet to verify that all the information was correct. I was asked to read "What do we have to pay to the government," and I had to write "We pay taxes." Then, I was asked six civics questions and answered all of them correctly:

What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution? – The Bill of Rights
How many U.S. Senators are there? – One hundred (100)
Name one branch or part of the government: The Congress
There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them: Citizens eighteen (18) and older (can vote).
The Federalist Papers supported the passage of the U.S. Constitution. Name one of the writers: (James) Madison.
Who lived in America before the Europeans arrived? – Native Americans

After handing me the N-652 with the approved result, the officer gave me some tips on how to get my SSN and state ID updated after the ceremony, as well as requesting a passport and registering to vote ☺️

As of now, the system says that my case was submitted for quality review based on an approval recommendation. I look forward to the naturalization ceremony and the oath. I'll keep you posted when I have more information!

My I-751 is still pending, and the instructions for this interview don't mention anything about it. My husband will come with me + I'll print and bring all the I-751 and N-400 paperwork that I submitted just in case.
