I had my Oath ceremony this morning. I'm glad they didn't give me my certificate on the day of the interview. Although, the ceremony was very quick, it was still quite pleasant and exciting. I had to admit that I even teared up a little when the immigration director of the Portland office welcomed us new citizens of the USA after we took the Oath.

Good luck to all of you who are still waiting for the interview. The journey is almost over!

I had my interview this morning at Portland, OR office. It went very well and only took 15 minutes or so (I had to wait to be called for 30 minutes though). Almost every officer that entered the waiting room to call someone for an interview seemed nice and friendly. The officer that was interviewing me was super nice and everything felt more like a chat with an acquaintance rather than an official interview. We even chatted about our cats lol

My journey is almost over and it feels quite strange for some reason. The Oath ceremony is scheduled for 8:45 am this Thursday. After that, I will officially become an American citizen. Yay! ☺️

The civics test questions that I was asked:
    1) What is freedom of religion?
    2) Who is the governor of your state? ( I recently moved to WA so I named both, OR and WA states governors.)
    3) Who was the first president?
    4) Who is the president of the USA now?
    5) Name one state that borders Canada (I said Maine because I lived in New England for a while and the officer was really surprised because most applicants say WA state since it's right next to Oregon.)
    6) Under our Constitution, some powers belong to the states. What is one power of the states?

Congrats.  This is wonderful for you to reach the end of this journey. I bet it’s not an easy one.  As if You graduated from uscis with PHD.  no higher degree to acquire.  I will use your good luck for my pending case.

Tomorrow! Please don't be too nervous. Mine, a 5 year N400 too, was really straightforward. It took around 15 minutes total and there was nothing there to trip me up. Just some basic questions about any change in circumstances or trips out of the country. No to both in my case. The civics questions were straightforward. Ironically, I was exempt from the English tests.

The person doing my interview was friendly and totally non-confrontational. You'll be absolutely fine. All the hard work has been done with the forms and the documentation. Good luck and I look forward to hearing the good news tomorrow

Thank you both! I think I overreacted on Friday and was way too worried for no reason. I looked at the questions on Saturday night and was able to answer almost 70% of them right away without any preparation. It definitely made me feel much better. Testing my American citizen boyfriend's knowledge also helped me to memorize answers lol I watched a YouTube video yesterday and just completed a round of flashcards, so now I feel like I am ready. Fingers crossed. Hopefully, by this time tomorrow I will be a proud American citizen

I used the flashcards - just type "uscis civics test flashcards" in google, and click the first link. I flipped through these twice - 2 days before and the night before my interview, and was good to go. But I am also in med school so tests like these don't faze me - mnemonics, mental roadmaps, and other memory tricks is the best way to approach this test in my opinion.

The civics test has very easy but strict answers, there are no vague answers to them. Either you give the right or the wrong answer, there's no in between. Some questions have several correct answers, you just need to know ONE of the answers unless the questions specifically asks you to mention more than one. Do NOT use the app to practice the questions as it's just confusing since it gives you multiple choices and that's not how the real test is conducted. The immigration officer will simply ask you a question, and you need to have memorized the answer, you won't be given any choices. They only ask you 10 questions at the most, but you still need to memorize all 100 as the computer will give you any random 10 questions out of those 100. You never know which questions you'll get.

For me personally I had the geographic, government and politics questions down immediately, but the history part was harder for me with all the crazy names (Wilson, Jefferson, Eisenhower, Franklin, Lincoln, Jay etc) so I focused more on those when I practiced. The main thing that really worked for me was to listen to the youtube videos over and over while working. Within just a couple of days I knew all the answers to every single question. There are many youtube videos to choose from, pick the newest ones to make sure the answers are up to date. In the beginning you want to start out with the slower videos where they seriously repeat every single sentence and answer twice. Once you know the answers you can move on to the quick videos, where they don't repeat questions and answers, it will really test your speed if you can manage to give the answer before they do in the video.  But remember - the naturalization test itself is not timed or anything.

Ladies and gentlemen of May 2020 N400 filers, my journey has come to an American end. Last Thursday I attended my interview in Charlotte, NC and took the oath on the same day (Charlotte does both on same day). The day was not without some last minute adventure from there being a medical emergency when we got there and were asked to wait outside for 45 minutes while the ambulance and fire truck showed up. The only thing I could think about was I hope the person is ok and God please don't let them cancel interviews for today. It was ok and we were allowed to enter.

Upon entering we were led to a room with multiple interview stations. Each station had a glass with the officer behind it. We were interviewed within earshot of each other. The officer asked me to raise my right hand swear I'd tell the truth. From there I was asked 6 civics questions which I got correct and at that point the civics portion ended. I was then asked to write on an iPad "The President lives in the White House". Then I was asked to read in English "The President lives in the White House" I passed that too.

From there I was walked to another desk in the room to an iPad with a camera facing me. On the iPad was an officer who was on his computer reviewing my file. Had a bit of a scare when he asked if I brought my birth certificate. I had not because the letter did not ask us to bring it. For some reason he could not find it in his file and started to say we could not move forward without it. I became super sad. I had come all this way only to be tripped up by that. Fortunately he found it and we moved on. MORAL OF THE STORY: TAKE EVERY DOCUMENT YOU THINK MIGHT BE IMPORTANT. He then proceeded to ask me all the questions on the form: name, addresses, work places, then all the yes no questions. After that he casually said I had been approved and my certificate would be printed. WOOOO HOOOO!!!!

From there the certificate was printed and me and the group of people at my appointment took our oath after handing in our green card (yes they take it back). We took pictures and were given voter registration forms and left. And I've been an American since. Thanks to everyone in this group for all the moral support over the months. I'll stick around and answer any questions others have. You guys are so close!!

What's this new trend every one is creating a new thread just saying I passed my interview and became citizen? So far have seen 3 threads like this. Imagine every single of one here try to do the same, the whole idea of this forum would become irrelevant. If there is any useful info, we can post in the related group to help others to know about the timeline and corresponding process instead of starting new ones or a thread just for those who already passed and want to celebrate.

You may hit lucky and get a same day ceremony. Tuesdays are the day for oaths at the moment. Your interview is early enough so it may work out. Fingers crossed and good luck.

I woke up to an update from USCIS today. My interviews was finally scheduled for March 16th at 7:30 am (I guess they are early birds there lol). Hopefully, everyhting will go smooth and by the end of March I'll be an American citizen.
