This was absolutely a great piece and left me . A bunch of "progressives" afflicted with major TDS apparently needed a safe space and the New Republic provided it. I wonder if they gave each other awards. What I Learned at the 'Stop Trump Summit' Rep. Jamie Raskin (D., Md.). (The guy who led the second impeachment of former president Donald Trump.) George Conway. (Anti-Trump tweeter and ex-husband of Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway.) Miles Taylor. (Remember that low-level Trump aide and future cable news star who published the "anonymous" op-ed in the New York Times that everyone assumed was written by some senior cabinet official? That guy.) Tony Schwartz. (Trump's ghostwriter for The Art of the Deal.) Don Lemon. (The hack journalist fired from CNN for being a misogynistic #######.) Al Franken. (Effectively fired from the U.S. Senate for similar reasons.) Robert De Niro. (Just trying to pay the bills.) Michael Cohen. (The unhinged former Trump fixer and former inmate who pursued a new career as an anti-Trump celebrity around the same time he became the target of a federal criminal investigation.) Michael Avenatti couldn't make it because he's still in prison. https://freebeacon.com/politics/what-i-learned-at-the-stop-trump-summit/

Makes sense. WAAH tantrum update: Now conservatives are ruining "progressive," too! Conservatives are once again successfully demonizing and devaluing a term embraced by liberals, and this time they are doing it with the help of Democrats. Even in purportedly liberal bastions like San Francisco and Oakland, the word “progressive” is being twisted to denote radical ideas and inept leadership instead of hope and revolutionary change. https://hotair.com/headlines/2023/10/15/waah-tantrum-update-now-conservatives-are-ruining-progressive-too-n584999

Proof of bonafide marriage for 3 yr rule
Dashinka replied to Don0's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
This is what is shown in the N400 instructions (below) relative to marital evidence to bring to the interview. You do not need all that to actually submit the N400 though even under the 3 yr. rule, although most when filing online will upload it. It seems you already have a bunch of evidence from the I751, so you can add to that, and it is up to you if you want to upload it if you file online or take it with you to the interview. Good Luck! 7. Other Documents. Depending on the circumstances, you should bring certain documents to your interview. You may also submit copies of these documents with your application. For example: A. Spouse of a U.S. Citizen. Bring the following items to your interview if you are applying for naturalization on the basis of your marriage to a U.S. citizen: (1) Evidence that your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for at least 3 years at the time you file your Form N-400. Such evidence may include: a birth certificate (if your spouse never lost U.S. citizenship since birth), Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of Citizenship, or Form FS-240 Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America; (2) Evidence of the termination of all your prior marriages; and (3) Evidence that you and your spouse have lived in marital union for at least 3 years at the time you file your Form N-400. Such evidence may include: (a) Joint bank and credit card statements; (b) Leases or mortgages; (c) Birth certificates of children; (d) Insurance policies; and (e) Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you and your spouse filed for the past 3 years (or an IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years). https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/n-400instr.pdf -
You are correct. Given your situation with no plans to resume residency in the US, the proper course would be to apply for a B2 visa in Germany, and formally surrender your GC via the I407. If CBP questioned you, it is wrong to suggest not surrendering your GC at that point, but I am not sure if CBP would still parole you in. With the wait times in Germany being very low for a B2 application, you should be able to apply for a visa with the DS160, and then also fill out an I407. I am not sure if you need to do the I407 first or if you can turn it in at the B2 visa interview along with your GC. I would not be too concerned with the tax implications as your spouse being a USC still needs to file taxes annually, and that should cover you. Good Luck!

N-400 should I apply now?
Dashinka replied to MisisHilaga's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
I would plan to file the day you return from your trip to avoid any possible biometrics appointments, or even an interview as some local offices are very fast. Yes, when you apply you will need to submit a photocopy of your green card. I don’t see a requirement to include a copy of the extension letter, but you can scan and upload it if filing online. Good Luck! -
This is what I would do at least for this visit, surrender the GC via the I407 when you leave (you can find the CBP office in the airport when leaving). After that, I am not really sure as I could not find any information regarding temporary or permanent residents in Germany. I expect you will need to research that more, but the best I can glean is a temporary resident in Germany may need a B2, but a permanent resident may be able to use ESTA. You might ask that question specifically in the German/Europe regional forum. Good Luck!

So to me this is much more general than just the Hamas terror attacks into Israel (if mods feel otherwise, feel free to put this in the Israel thread). It is certainly true, people usually show their true colors. A great example is the racist attitudes of Old Corrupt Joe which shine through all the time. When People Tell You Who They Are, Believe Them On the one hand I think: surely this will be sufficient. Surely this amount of blood will be enough to shake the world awake. Surely no one can equivocate or justify this. As my friend Sarah Haider wrote, “How easy is it to simply condemn targeted violence against civilians? Can there be a lower bar?” And yet, across the world, people have sunk below it. Here you can watch people gathered at the Sydney Opera House cheering “gas the Jews” and “death to the Jews.” People are rejoicing in the slaughter on the streets of Berlin and London and Toronto and New York. Gridlock in DC is a good thing. House votes to remove Kevin McCarthy as speaker in historic first Lawmakers have voted to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., from his leadership role, the first time in the history of the House of Representatives that the chamber voted to boot a member from the top job. Eight Republicans voted with every present Democrat to vacate the speaker's chair. The final vote was 216 to 210 in favor of McCarthy's ouster. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., introduced a measure against McCarthy known as a motion to vacate on Monday night, accusing him of breaking promises he made to win the speaker's gavel in January. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-votes-to-proceed-with-potential-mccarthy-ouster

What I do not understand is the three Leftist justices voted in favor of religious rights on the postal worker case released yesterday, but voted against this one released today. Supreme Court rules in favor of Colorado graphic designer who refused to create same-sex wedding websites The U.S. Supreme Court held that a Colorado graphic designer who wants to make wedding websites does not have to create them for same-sex marriages, in a landmark decision that pit the interests of LGBTQ non-discrimination against First Amendment freedom. In a 6-3 decision issued Friday, the high court ruled in favor of artist Lorie Smith, who sued the state over its anti-discrimination law that prohibited businesses providing sales or other accommodations to the public from denying service based on a customer's sexual orientation. Justice Neil Gorsuch authored the majority opinion, which said that, "In this case, Colorado seeks to force an individual to speak in ways that align with its views but defy her conscience about a matter of major significance." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/supreme-court-rules-in-favor-of-colorado-graphic-designer-who-refused-to-create-same-sex-wedding-websites/ar-AA1dg4M7

This AI will most likely be used for the next election. It will get interesting. AI clones teen girl’s voice in $1M kidnapping scam: ‘I’ve got your daughter’ It was a dead “ringer” for her daughter. Artificial intelligence has taken phone scams to a frightening new level. An Arizona mom claims that scammers used AI to clone her daughter’s voice so they could demand a 1$ million dollar ransom from her as part of a terrifying new voice scheme. “I never doubted for one second it was her,” distraught mother Jennifer DeStefano told WKYT while recalling the bone-chilling incident. “That’s the freaky part that really got me to my core.” This bombshell comes amid a rise in “caller ID spoofing” schemes, in which scammers claim they’ve taken the recipient’s relative hostage and will harm them if they aren’t paid a specified amount of money. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/ai-clones-teen-girl-s-voice-in-1m-kidnapping-scam-i-ve-got-your-daughter/ar-AA19LWPF

If the shoe fits. Twitter criticized after labeling NPR as ‘state-affiliated media’ (NewsNation) — NPR president and CEO John Lansing fired back at Twitter on Wednesday morning after the social media platform put a label on the news organization’s profile calling it “state-affiliated media.” NewsNation partner The Hill reports this designation is one Twitter uses for state news agencies such as Russia’s TASS and China’s Xinhua. “NPR and our Member stations are supported by millions of listeners who depend on us for the independent, fact-based journalism we provide,” Lansing wrote in a statement. “NPR stands for freedom of speech and holding the powerful accountable. It is unacceptable for Twitter to label us this way. A vigorous, vibrant free press is essential to the health of our democracy.” https://www.newsnationnow.com/entertainment-news/media/twitter-npr-state-affiliated-media-ceo-responds/

More from the war on CH4. And yes, this agency is headed by the son of the former top manager of the AFL-CFO. U.S. safety agency to consider ban on gas stoves amid health fears A federal agency says a ban on gas stoves is on the table amid rising concern about harmful indoor air pollutants emitted by the appliances. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission plans to take action to address the pollution, which can cause health and respiratory problems. “This is a hidden hazard,” Richard Trumka Jr., an agency commissioner, said in an interview. “Any option is on the table. Products that can’t be made safe can be banned.” https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2023-01-09/us-safety-agency-considers-gas-stove-ban?expandComments=true

Hmm, seems somewhat inevitable with socialized medicine. Some Canadian Health Care Patients Say They're Being Encouraged To Just Die Already Unfortunately, the philosophical argument for the right to die can also end up colliding with troubling decisions in a country where the government funds and controls access to healthcare. That is reportedly happening in Canada, where some citizens say health officials are actively encouraging people with disabilities and other chronic medical issues to consider suicide. According to the Associated Press, hospitals are raising the possibility of assisted suicide with patients who hadn't asked about it. These conversations are not motivated by quality of life but health care costs. The A.P. notes that Belgium and the Australian state of Victoria, which allow physician-assisted suicide, tell medical professionals not to bring up euthanasia so that it's not seen as medical advice. In other words, make sure it's the patient's idea. This is not the case in Canada, where health care workers are trained to inform patients that they can choose euthanasia if they have a qualifying condition. This has led to some patients, particularly those with disabilities but not necessarily fatal illnesses, having some unpleasant conversations. One provided a recording to the Associated Press: https://reason.com/2022/09/07/some-canadian-health-care-patients-say-theyre-being-encouraged-to-just-die-already/

Scammers are getting more creative. Be careful. 2 Michigan women tricked by convincing, sophisticated Amazon scam: What to know The calls appear to have three steps: The initial caller claims to be from Amazon and tells you there has been a fraudulent purchase on an Amazon account. Then, the conversation quickly turns to reveal that you have bank accounts with four or five well-known names — Wells Fargo, PNC Bank, Bank of America, Chase and others. Maybe that's where you really bank, maybe you don't and will let it slip where you do have accounts. Last, you're told that someone has used your identity to open up a string of bank accounts. A call that began from Amazon somehow ends up with a federal agent on the line to convince you that you'll be arrested soon because you're now suspected of money laundering. The caller might imply that hundreds of thousands of dollars were transferred into questionable accounts opened with your ID information. https://www.freep.com/story/money/personal-finance/susan-tompor/2022/05/19/amazon-scam-money-laundering/9794344002/

Kinds of flying under the radar with all the recent deflections. The baby formula supply problem is getting worse New YorkCNNBusiness — For months stores nationwide have been struggling to stock enough baby formula. Manufacturers say they’re producing at full capacity and making as much formula as they can, but it’s still not enough to meet current demand. The out-of-stock rate for baby formula hovered between 2% and 8% in the first half of 2021, but began rising sharply last July. Between November 2021 and early April 2022, the out-of-stock rate jumped to 31%, data from Datasembly showed. That rate increased another 9 percentage points in just three weeks in April, and now stands at 40%, the statistics show. In six states — Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Missouri, Texas and Tennessee — more than half of baby formula was completely sold out during the week starting April 24, Datasembly said. https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/08/business/baby-formula-shortage/index.html

In the theme of our current vacation to the Arches/Canyonlands area in Utah, just wondering what everyone’s favorite National park/monuments/seashores are? I still love Death Valley, but the others we have visited, Yellowstone, Badlands, Arches, Grand Canyon, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, Mt. Rushmore, Cuyahoga Valley, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Indiana Dunes, Cumberland Gap are all great in their own way.
