It's not about "practiced" answers, it's about honest answers. Most people coming on a K1 have at least some vague idea of when they're getting married, even if it's not set in stone.
The officer who let me into the US with my K1 Visa barely said a word, just looked at my documents and sent me along. It was so anti-climactic after being so nervous. When I travelled here as a tourist I was asked a ton of questions. I understand that these guys can seem like they're just making friendly conversation, but what they're really doing is deciding whether you're getting into the country or not.
It was definitely not the time or place to be joking around with something like that. You really need to clarify.

Someone in the April 2016 filers thread just got approved after 9 months at CSC. I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon..

I can see why that would be confusing. I've been "residing" in the United States for over 3 years already and obviously I'm just starting ROC now, so that wouldn't make any sense.
If you look at the Naturalization Eligibility worksheet on USCIS.gov. Page 2, number 3 it says "I have been a permanent resident for.." and if you follow the arrow to "less than 3 years" it says right there "you are not eligible for naturalization". Which is much more clear than what the guide on VJ is saying.

You can file 90 days before your third anniversary of becoming a permanent resident. If that makes sense.
For example my permanent resident third anniversary is Jan 26th 2018, so I can file October 29th.
You can use this USCIS early filing calculator to get the exact date you can file

It's not complicated or lengthy. It's a lot easier than the K1 process in my opinion. You don't need a lawyer. I'm pretty sure the majority of visajourney users do it on there own.
Just make sure you get the forms from USCIS.gov & get the correct fees. Then the guides on here give you a pretty good list of different types of evidence you can submit.
I did the K1 & ROC all on my own and I wouldn't consider myself overly smart or good at things like this. I just read the guides, read the forums and did what everyone else did.

A user in another thread was saying the projected processing time at CSC is 7-8 months. Earliest I can file the N400 is October 29th, so that brings the processing time pretty close, not quite but almost.

This is a common question and there is a lot of contradiction on this point. The NoA1 letter doesn't actually specify, and I believe it's never formally been made clear by USCIS because in the past processing times were faster and it was a moot point.
In my experience, my local DMV insists it means one year from the date on the letter and not one year from the green card expiration date, and this is after I asked them to escalate the issue with USCIS. A tier 1 USCIS representative also said it was one year from the receipt date on the NoA1 letter, but people in these forums have experienced both interpretations.
Interesting. I renewed my license with the extension letter, and they said they had to go by the date on my green card.

Yeah, tell that to the LEGAL visa holder & green card holders who were detained/deported last weekend. Also, the 7 entire countries that have been banned from the US. I've been telling myself it's just the illegal immigrants they have a problem with, but it's so not true at all.

Yeah, I wouldn't even bother using the check my case status thing on USCIS.gov. It's broken or something, and a few other people have said that it's most likely never going to be updated.

You're really just going to need to be patient during this process. Didn't you kind of understand before going into this that you may have to spend a few months unemployed and unable to travel? and that living in a new country..you may just have to miss some things back home? Like..I didn't get to go to my grandparents funerals who both died last year, but that's just the choice I made..
I applied for AOS/EAD in March 2014 and didn't get my EAD until June. Then didn't get my AOS approved until the end of January. No interview/RFE or anything, just silence for 11 months.
