So has anyone who filed at CSC contacted USCIS about our cases? or has anyone heard anything? Like maybe how much longer we can expect to be waiting.
-
Are we supposed to get a stamp if our letter is close to expiring? or is that just if you have travel plans?

Not sure how true this is, but someone in a Facebook group I'm in reckons it's been leaked from a Midwest Field Office that all I-751s are going to be going through interviews from now on... probably hearsay but thought it was worth mentioning
I wonder how they're going to manage that, considering they can't even keep up with it as it is lol

Must be specific to your state. My first license was only one year as I only had AOS, but after the year, mine is now good to 2023. I'm guessing you would need the passport stamp, and you'll get another one year license?
hmm maybe, that's kinda the only way I can see this working. the idaho DMV still considers me "temporary" it's super annoying. I've had to go back in every year since I got my license..
-
The whole process from K1 to AOS went quickly for me, pretty much met the processing goals for all of it. K1 was actually quicker than I expected. It's just ROC that's been painfully slow so far. I miss when the Vermont service center was the slow lane and CA was the place to be lol.
I'm glad this hasn't affected my job or anything, plus I was able to leave/re-enter the country with no issues. Just looking forward to that feeling of my place in the US (which has very much become my home) being more cemented..
Only thing I'm unsure of is getting my license renewed. They have only ever renewed it for a year at a time going by the expiry date of whatever document I had at the time. But this time I'm going to have an expired green card and my extension letter will be expired.

I hope you are on the side of lucky! Not trying to be negative, but when dealing with the gov't always need to be prepared.
Not sure, but call and see if there is a passport agency near you after you call about your status. Maybe you can change and get it issued there.....same day
I really wish you luck and hope you get it sooner rather than later.

First of all, just want to apologize if this is in the wrong place. I wasn't sure if this thread fit into the other categories.
So my husband and I will be traveling to my home country New Zealand for 2 weeks. We didn't realize that in order for an American to enter NZ that your passport has to be valid for 3 months past your departure date. We will depart NZ 12/06 and his passport expires 01/24. So thats clearly not 3 months.
So we applied to renew his passport and paid the fee to have it expedited. It says the process takes 2-3 weeks (we applied exactly 17 days before we are supposed to be leaving). A guy I spoke to on the phone about how to renew said they go by the date you'll be leaving (no idea if this is actually true, but it gave me a small amount of hope that we'd get the new passport on time).
Has anyone here had any experience with this situation? Also, do you guys know if there is anyone we can contact at all to see what's going on with the renewal?
General comments/advice on this situation are welcome too! Thank you

Hey guys,
Still no news on this end. 😔
What are your guys thoughts on using an immigration lawyer for the n-400 filing?
Has anyone here used lawyers?
Most people just do it on their own, without a lawyer. Unless there's something about your situation that makes you think you may need a lawyer. I didn't need a lawyer for the K1 Visa, AOS and so far I haven't needed one for ROC, but my case is straight forward so I was able to confidently do it all myself.

Apply for your N-400 and divorce USCIS.
I'm eligible in like 2 weeks, but I can't afford it right away

So what should we do for our 1 year anniversary as ROC filers? It's coming up soon

It's just strange reading what you say about the process of moving here and your relationship. Mostly because my moving to the US to marry my husband was such an exciting adventure. Obviously it was hard saying goodbye to family for who-knows how long, but it still didn't feel like that much of a sacrifice to me. I miss my home country sometimes, but never enough to make me want to live there again. I also come from a country where social gatherings have a tendency to revolve around alcohol, but i've never felt compelled to drink just because of that..i actually haven't drank since 2015. It sounds your problems with alcohol and "having a good time" are your own issue, not a result of your "culture". My husband and I have been through some really hard times. Going through this process and adjusting to living together after a long-distance relationship is a lot to deal with at once. But there was love and commitment to our relationship on both sides, and we worked through it. Now almost 4 years married and our relationship is the best it has ever been!
This is just my opinion, but I don't think wanting to be with someone is a good enough reason to move to a new country, you have to want to actually live there for yourself as well. Maybe you should consider that this visa journey is just not for you...

I was employed by a new company for the first time since my green card expired a the beginning of the month. My green card was brought up in conversation, but they only ever asked me for my social security card and driver license.

Just checked how long it has been since USCIS received my case. If my ROC process was a pregnancy, i'd be due in around 10 days

Just checking in, I've tried to enjoy my summer and not worry about this but then looked at the date on the calendar and am beginning to get anxious! I haven't heard a peep since my biometrics back in December.
Can someone remind me where I go online to check my case? And also what number are you all calling to get updates?
Thank you!
Why are you anxious? The norm these days if for the process to take up to 12 months. So expecting anything to happen sooner than that, you're kind of stressing yourself out over nothing. Your file is literally just sitting in a pile, untouched. No amount of anxiety will change that. The only reason we're going through this process is because we have to prove that our marriages are genuine, and if it is, then you're pretty much golden.
If you go to USCIS.gov there's a button right on that page that says "check your case status". It's pretty straight forward from there. Although it's unlikely that your status will ever change, so don't be too disappointed if it's not updated at all. Mine has said something about a fee being waived since December.
The phone number for USCIS is 1-800-375-5283, but good luck getting someone on the other end who has any sort of clue what's going on. If you request to speak to someone in Tier 2, you may get more information. But the tier 1 agents, are basically useless.

USCIS made a mistake in my last name on the NOA. My lawyer sent a request to change it. When I check my case status, it says that the name was changed. However, I didn't get a new NOA. My lawyer says it's fine. They usually don't do that. I need to travel soon and I'm a little worried that one letter in my last name is wrong. Do they look at alien # only?
I'm sure it will be fine? But I would definitely look further into it just incase. My first name is spelt incorrectly in my passport, and it's never been an issue from coming here on the visa waiver program, then on the K1 visa. Although I am not from a high-fraud country, so maybe they weren't as @nal about everything?

So I just moved to New Jersey and the guy at the DMV gave me a "temporary immigrant status" drivers license
And he made my license expire next year in February on the date that the extension letter expires
so if i dont get my greencard by then i cant drive or do anything
At least in NY when I had my employment authorization document they gave me a 10 year license that just said that my residency would expire in a year but I can still drive etc.
Also I got a new job and I don't know how they will like my "temporary immigrant status" drivers license ... this sucks.
Damn that sucks. My driver license expires the same day as my extension letter as well. They've never made my drivers license valid for more than a year since I moved here. I joked about spending more time at the DMV than most Americans, which my husband confirmed is true..compared to him at least.
Do you have any idea if the passport stamp you get when you're close to the expiration counts for anything in your situation?

Wow basically that makes a year long wait to hear back from USCIS for i752 as of current proceeding time. So if we filed in December 2016 we should only expect news by December 2017? Based on timeline when I was filing I though the worst case it would be October 2017...and now seems like December? 🤔
Yeah, around a year seems to be the norm these days. At the beginning of this I honestly thought this was gonna be a 6 month thing at most, but now I'm going to be very surprised to hear anything before December. But thats a long time from now, who knows, maybe things will get better and USCIS will pick up the pace. Or maybe it'll get worse, it's anyones guess haha

Nearly 6 months today since I filed. Back before filing I thought I'd be close to being done with this by now, but it seems there's still a long way to go haha

I imagine that DMV employees start off much more enthused about their job in the beginning. But i'm sure it grinds you down real quick. It's like someone said, no one ever really wants to go to the DMV, it's more of an obligation, so i assume it's rare for a DMV employee to encounter someone in a good mood. It's just a miserable experience for everyone involved. Same with call centers. I hated working for them and I hate having to call them.
I've been pretty lucky with the DMV. My immigration status has lead me there more often than any American I know. Probably just because i'm in Idaho and live in a relatively small city. Everyone here is obscenely friendly. So i've never really had a bad experience. My immigration status is probably something a lot the staff have never encountered so they always have to pull out their folder with the different guides for different situations and most times have to ask a co-worker for help. They've never been rude or hostile towards me.
Same goes with the social security office.

November 2nd.
I keep reading the May thread. It's getting better, but they have definitely slowed down.
I honestly don't care how long it takes (provided it is a reasonable time, say within 12 months from submission), however, I have planned international travel around ROC, trying to make sure I was in the country around approval/RFE time (it was around June/July when I filed), and now it looks like it may come while I'm away, in September/October... Oh well...!
That's a couple days after I am eligible as well. It's definitely a little awkward making travel plans around stuff like this. When I seem to be expecting my new green card to arrive and also when I can file for citizenship, happens to be around the same time as the cheapest flights to New Zealand. I guess I will have to see how it goes..

Indeed...
I am following all the 2016 threads to get an idea, and May is right now every active with exchanges (and people getting approved), but June, July, etc. are sadly very much silent...! We better sit tight and just go with the flow, at least for now. I honestly just hope it comes before the 1-year mark, but if it doesn't, I'm ready to file for N-400 as soon as I'm eligible.
When are you eligible to file for N-400?

2 years and 9 months of being here on Conditional Residence? I got married in April 2013 - He finally got approved and came on a CR1 on June 6th,2015. Just applied for I-751 March 8th. When would I start applying for N-400? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. I swear since I been in cancer treatment I have chemo brain (very forgetful and simple things are not as understandable)
Thanks ahead of time.
90 days before your 3 year anniversary of being a permanent resident is when you can apply for Naturalization. To get your 3 year anniversary date, just take your green cards issue date and add 3 years.
USCIS has a filing calculator here : https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-early-filing-calculator
I put my 3 year permanent resident anniversary (01/27/2018) and it gives me 10/29/2017, which is the earliest date I can file.

I don't really understand how these dates work. VSC December 2016 filers are being approved, so why do they only put November 14th if they're ahead in some cases?
