Peikko reacted to JohnR! in Brigitte Gabriel gives FANTASTIC answer to Muslim woman claiming all Muslims are portrayed badly
I would not venture into determining how committed to his faith Marvin is. That is between him and god. Just saying...
However, we agree on one point: There are some religious fundamentalists in Islam who believe god command them to do harm to others, but in all fairness this is not something that happens in Islam only. There are similar nutjobs in Christianity and Judeism. There have been religious nutjobs since religion was invented and any of the sacred books carry passages, verses or chapters that might be interpreted as condoning violence.
The issue here is not religion, so much as education. You are most likely to find fundamentalism amongst the uneducated - you can see that right here in America, so you can imagine how easy it is to have someone engage in religious-based terrorism in some countries where people live in medieval conditions and lack basic education. All you need to is prey on the uneducated to get your religion going - look at televangelism right here in America.

You took different incidents from different countries and acted like they were the norm. I'm doubtful riding the world of Islam would eliminate all of the things you listed. It's traditionalism and moral conservatism that creates these situations. When people hold strong to the "back in my day" #######, cultures stutter to move forward.

I know congress is meant to check the excesses that could be rought by one party having too much power, but I don't think the current situation was envisaged. If congress simply says no to anything proposed by the current president, that's obstruction, not a check. The president does have a mandate too, and he was elected because of that mandate. Sadly, this does demonstrate that the current political system is broken and needs fixed in some way, but probably not by eliminating congress.

If some are to be believed, Obama researched all the available military staff and sacked anyone that stood in the way of this particular female becoming an Admiral. That's a conspiracy theory to end all...well, for today at least.

Does she have to launch herself as a media figure? I would have thought the one thing that she would have learned out of all this is that the media is fickle and cares not a jot for the individual, just the story and what that story will pay in $$$$'s. Sure, no problem attending charity functions if she can do some good by doing so, but as a role model? I just wonder why she would do that, unless there is some reason why she can't enter regular employment?

Clearly Jackson had lots of issues, and one was extremely dubious taste. Still, these guys got their 5 mins of fame out of it, but I am not that impressed with their photographic skills, if their gig is photography of urban decay as an art form, I would expect a great deal more from the pics than what's displayed here.

Peikko got a reaction from Trumplestiltskin in Obama is worst president since WWII, nationwide poll finds
What can we read into this? Not very much. I would be more interested in how people arrive at their 'best' 'worst' decisions. I am not sure what criteria are being used, and normally there is a measure of what constitutes being 'good' or 'bad', but all the rhetoric I read about Obama being bad is that he has pushed through some of his yes, somewhat vague campaign promises because the house and senate is currently refusing to participate in the law making process. That I think is more of a scandal but no, Obama has to be the focus of everything, because that's how US politics is. Polarizing and more or less dysfunctional.

Obama won the election because he wasn't Bush. After 9/11, Katrina and 7 years in Iraq and Afghanistan - the Republican Party had become so toxic that pretty much anyone the Democrats ran could have beaten the Republican candidate. It said a lot as to how much of a pariah the Republicans saw GWB as, that McCain didn't want him fundraising or campaigning on his behalf.
As to Obama, personally I'd have preferred it if he'd had more of a campaign platform than a vague mantra of change. That's clearly a fault in the electoral system that you can win the presidency with vague promises and clever marketing without committing to everything substantial.
Part of the problem, no doubt, was being saddled with an economic recession and armed forces entrenched in the middle east. Not being American, or having lived in the USA for 4 years I can't say what impact, if any, Obama's presidency has had on people's daily lives. If it's anything like the situation in the UK, then probably not much has changed, while the general cost of living seems to edge up each year, putting a pinch on household budgets.
The problem here is that some you people are so polarised you find it necessary to tear down the opposition party figurehead by any means necessary, crowing when the other side wins the election and ignoring it when it becomes clear that your guy is little more competent than the last one.
I have to say though, I do believe that GWB was probably the worst president in my living memory. Mainly because it was so obvious to me that the guy was simply a frontman for his father's business interests - all those speeches he froze up at, all those debates he had to be coached through because he clearly had no understanding of the issues. He just wasn't someone who was qualified for high office. Other politicians, good and bad (including Obama), at least showed a degree of statesmanship and that they understood the questions that were put to them. I found it interesting whenever the President made an national address, that people would stop what they were doing to listen. With Bush, there was a strong temptation to turn off the TV. Not because he was lying, but because he clearly had no understanding of the issues he was dealing with. His press conferences were, and still are, appalling.
