I totally agree with your post. Getting an extension before your visa expires would be very hard and getting the extension after it expires won't happen. If you have unfinished business to take care of here just fly to the nearest POE, probably Guam, have your passport stamped and then come back and finish your business. I wouldn't let it expire, as we all know there are going to be changes happening when it comes to immigration, and there is no guarantee that you will be able to do the same process or be approved the second time around. After working so hard for this don't let it slip through your fingers.

What would you hold them accountable for? They're just doing their jobs. They can't help it if the numbers of immigrants that they process per year has them overwhelmed. Everyone knows, or should know, that the process takes time. If a person doesn't like it they are not forced to participate.

I don't know what the percentage of K-1s that pass is for sure but I would guess that it is 100% as long as you have a bonafide relationship and your paperwork is in order. The scary part of your post is that she has been coached. The interview questions are alway easy if your telling the truth and you shouldn't need to be coached if you really know each other.

Sorry to say but you may be assuming to much. Each year in the Philippines there are tens of thousands of new college graduates. Generally speaking the average person is already out of the work force by the age of 27, mostly because you have to reapply for your job every 6 months and there is always people waiting to take your place.

This is where they will meet with the fiscal to determine if the case could move forward. If he's out of jail right now it's because they don't have enough money to keep him there. Unlike the US in the Philippines you cannot defend yourself or file a case by yourself. Only a lawyer can approach the bench or talk to the judge. You never said where this is all taking place but if it's in an area where they have a lot of case load already this could take years to resolve. During that time the other family will have to keep coming up with a lot of money to keep the case going. Some of the criminal cases where I'm living take 6 to 7 years to trial end. If he is out I would not advise him to get a lawyer as that will demonstrate that he has money or the means to get it. When and if the time comes that he would need a lawyer he would get a public defender for nothing and those guys are good at drawing things out until the other side is broke. My guess is that by the time this is resolved him and the girl will probably be together with child number 2 or 3. I would't do anything

16 is not legal here, if you even get caught alone with a girl unrelated to you that is less than 18 years old you can go to jail, even if you don't have sex with her. Just being alone with her will be cause for Intent.

I have to agree with you, the laws here are different as well as the solutions. Many times cases are decided by who runs out of money first. Unless your willing to pay in this case I think I'd let the girl work on her family and see if she can't change their minds or if they eventually drop the charges because they can't afford it. He may sit in jail for awhile while this plays out but in the end it may be the best way to approach this kind of a deal. You can always pay at any stage for them to drop the charges but something to think about here is that if you pay, and the girl decides to go and see him again, even if she thinks no one will know and their caught together, he'll probably be back in the same situation that he's in now and you'll pay again

I read your post and after living here for many years will tell you that these kinds of things happen all the time. This is not the US, the laws and the ways they are enforced are different here. Chances are that if the parents didn't see any money from this they would have just pressed for the two of them to get married. In this country it is up to the injured party to bring charges, the police do not do it. Your relative can probably get a court appointed attorney but you have to realize that cases here take years and he's going to sit in jail until it's done. The one hundred thousand that they asked for is just the opening price, it is negotiable. People get out of murder charges for less than that. If the other family is also poor they may not have the funds to keep the case going and it would be dismissed in the end. In my opinion you need to make it very clear to the other party that you will not be involved and there will be no money coming from you. They may hold fast for a bit to see if you really mean it and once they figure out that you do everything will change. If they do have plans for marriage that also would change things. My advise would be to stay out of it, as bad as it seems now, you could make it worst by getting involved. I would let the girl work on her family, chances are she loves the kid and wants to be with him since she packed her bag and went to him in the first place. They see some dollar signs now but that may change in short order once they know your not going to get involved.

Even after getting a green card you are required to notify the USCIS within 30 days of any change of address

I emailed my DS forms and 3 days later made my interview appointment online. Don't wait for anything from them, it's not coming. Go online now and make your appointment. If the system allows it your good to go and after 30 days of waiting I'm sure you will be fine. Good Luck
