  1. I, sorry to hear that, it seems like your husband needs a reality check. Just sit him down and tell him how you feel, remind him you are here now and you two are married. Maybe would be great to spend some quality time together, just the two of you so he knows what he could loose.

Regarding socializing , you could try finding expat groups on meetup com or you can meet with outgoing and friendly locals and/or hang out with travellers from couchsurfing org and check what social events that suit your interests are going on around your town. Hope things will improve for you soon!

  2. When i moved to US i didnt have DL also. I used indeed.com to find jobs in my zip code area ( advanced search, scroll down, choose zip code and pick "only in") and found a job 4 miles away from home. I was biking there to start with (on the side walk,as too scared to bike on the roads in Orlando) and now I'm still working there enjoying a nice <10 min commute by car :-) Now, I'm not saying it will work in your case but may be worth a try! Good luck!

  3. Hi guys,

I am hoping to go for my Florida license in the next couple of weeks, and I was hoping that some of you might have some tips for me? I'm from New Zealand and we drive on the left hand side of the road and the right hand side of the car, so it's been an adjustment learning to do the opposite! I now feel really confident driving here so I thought it would be a good time to go for my test. Is there anything that you wish someone had told you before you went for your test? Any tips for your road test? Anything specific to Florida that may be helpful to know? I still remember my driving test back home (around 8 years ago) and that was a breeze, so I'm hoping this will be the same!

Thanks for any help you can give me! :)

Hi I passed mine in March in Orlando. The "road" test is actually behind the tax collectors office in a little area with some stop signs, and parking spot. Basically I needed to switch the car on, after that i needed to go in, press the break, switch the indicators on. Then we went towards test area (stop completely at stop sign, look left and right ) then i was told to go as fast at 30mph and then stop on command, quick but safe. Then reverse on neutral gear (use proper position) then 3 way turn on quite narrow part of the road (use indicators and don't go over the curb) then parking (90degree front first). It's super easy. (I never drove before)

  4. Just a side note - there are plenty of countries in which the Church does not have the power to marry someone legally, so people get married at the Court House, then do the church wedding (which can only be performed if they show their marriage certificate and proof that they are already legally married by the state).

I was just about to say that. Poland is an example of such. People actually do get married in the court first (and have a small party) and then few days or weeks later they get married in church and have a big wedding after (usually). So I think the question is does church in Phillipiness does legal marriages or not.. And even if it does maybe the priests would show compassion and understand OP's situation and let them have church, religous wedding.

  5. I started browsing jobs as soon as I got to US so about 5 months before I got my EAD. I got accustomised with the market and what pay rates to expect. Coming from financial services industry- customer service and office admin jobs I was terrified at the pay rates for these kind of jobs. (I also dont have a degree, just certification and vocational diploma). I used mainly indeed.com as it pulls jobs not only from other job boards but direct employer websites too.

I have sent a lot of resumes. I got some sort of replies maybe to about 15% of them, obviously mainly either just acknowledgment they'll contact me if im successful or just a decline.

I have gotten 3 interviews in total and the first two offers I have declined due to unsuitable shifts and/or pay that do not compensate for the flexibility they required.

I finally got a job after 4 months from getting my EAD and I am really happy with it and the pay is slightly more to what I was preparing myself for :-)

It has been mentioned on here too that your resume must include a lot of job related keywords so when it's scanned by a software or even a recruiter it can be picked up. Also google and review a list of action keywords or verbs that are important to be used in a resume when describing your duties and results in past jobs, i.e. Achieved, managed, acomplished, lead, generated, helped, reviewed etc.

    good luck!!

  6. Hi everyone,I will fly to US on 19th May and will arrive on 20th May under k1 visa. We will get married in 1 or 2 weeks after my departure. We would like to apply AOS for me. I was reading the guides and have some sight about how to apply but still have something to ask. My first question, how much fee for the AOS?thank you :)

$1070 for i-485 ( aos) and biometrics. It is free to file i-131 (advance parole) and i-765 (work authorisation) together with i-485 thus highly recommended.
