  1. The form that your doctor gave you at medical is probably ds-3025, does it have all vaccination information on it etc (should say ds-3025 in bottom left corner from what i remember)?

If your vaccinations are complete, i.e there are either ticks in "age not appropriate", "vh" or date of vaccines then you do not need anything else, just take a photocopy of that form and send it with your AOS paperwork.

If you were told at the medical that you need more vaccines then you'll need civil surgeon to transcribe you vaccination history for AOS.

  2. Correct.

You don't need to worry about paying for an extra copy either (Unless you want to). You'll only need to take original for your medical (they'll make a photocopy to keep) and original+Photocopy for your interview. (They'll keep photocopy)

  3. Once my fiance has the K1 Visa in her passport there's nothing else she has to do to enter the country right? We can just buy the plane ticket and she's here to get married? She will get the I-94 upon entering?

Yes your fiancee'll need to enter before visa expiration date. No I-94 will be given to her, it's all automated now. You'll be able to get it from https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/ as soon as she enters us. Then you'll have 90 days to get married.

  4. Hi,

I am still waiting for my NOA2 to arrive but in the mean time I wanted to under the Police clearance process. My wife is in India but she has lived in the UK for more than 12 months after she over the age of 16. She has been living in India for over 4 years now, do I still need to obtain the PCC from the UK ?

Please let me know if anyone has been through something similar.

    Thanks,

She does need police certificate from every country she lived over 12 months after turing 16 regardless how long ago so yes definately meed an UK certificate. You can get forms and info in few languages here: http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx

  5. Hi all.

I wanted to take my husbands last name after we got married so we put my new last name on the AOS papers. But I couldn't legally change my last name at the Social security office yet cause they said I need to have my permanent resident card for that.

Last tuesday I originally had my Biometrics but they asked for an ID or something that states my new last name but I didn't have anything, so the manager said I should come back this week with my marriage certificate.

My marriage certificate doesn't say that I took the last name either, it just says my husbands name and mine.

Do you think it's still enough proof that I'm able to change my last name in future?? I wanted to have my EAD and permanent resident card already in the name I will change on my SSN in the future so I won't have to change the cards again once I got them.

I'm so nervous now, that we just did something real wrong.

It is normal. Some marriage certificates have only maiden name but it still serves as legal document change. So bring your passport, marriage certificate and app. Letter and you'll be able to do your biometrics. Don't worry about SSN yet. You'll be to able to change name on it when you have EAD/AP.

  6. Depending on the state. For example in florida when filling licence there is only room for maiden name and then after marriage that licence becomes certificate thus only your maiden name is on the certificate. This does not stop marriage certificate to be official and legal proof of change of name. When you fill aos and want to take your husband name just fill forms in new name, go to the bank with your certificate and theyll change your name there, same with Ssn (if you applied in maiden name).

  7. August 2013 filer here.

My wife received an interesting letter today from the USCIS stating that: 1) her case is a possible candidate for an interview waiver (good); and 2) announcing an unrelated 6 month delay (not so good). We didnt actually file any request about the status of our case so while thats a bummer, I am glad they let us know at least.

Given her case is a possible interview waivers sounds like there is no hiccups with it specifically. But the way the letter is written about the delay makes it sound like its across the board as if they are 6 months behind in general. Has anyone else gotten a similar letter?

Also for anyone that has received one like this before, do you know if their delay estimate is usually accurate?

Exact text of that part of the letter, dated Dec 13th reads:

"Due to workload factors not related to your case, USCIS anticipates a delay in completing your case. Presently, we anticipate that delay to be approximately 6 months from the date of this letter. If you do not receive a decision or another notice of action from USCIS by that date, please contact the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) at the number below."

This is very common. Its about 50/50 for not getting interview and unfortunately it does usually mean few months waiting with no updates etc.

  8. Ssn and aos are not in any way connected. Apply for ssn abot 2 weeks after entry in your maiden name (even if you already got married and want to use married name boing forward). When you get your EAD/AP you then can go back to change name on your SSN.

Don't worry about AOs asking for SSN, its not required, to them Alien number is the one that identifies you most. Good luck!

  9. Hi everyone. My husband arrived on a k1 visa September 21. I was told that we had longer to file the AOS. We were trying to recover from all of the expenses from getting him here. Today, I was told we only had 90 days after his arrival to submit the AOS. Any help would be appreciated!

You have 90 days for getting married after that there's no deadline for AOS but for most its important to get EAD and AP fast thus filling asap after the marriage.
