  1. I am curious who has bought a pet like a dog, cat etc soon after moving to america? My husband and I have moved into our new home and we are getting a dog on the weekend! a golden retriever. Also has anyone ever bought their pets over with them when they moved.

I adopted a 5 mo pup few months after we bought a house. Walknig a dog is a great way to meet people in your neighbourhood!

But I agree with others... Don't shop - adopt!

  2. There's a thread in here about "civil surgeons who don't rip you off" try searching the forum for it and maybe you'll find your location.

You may just have to call the surgeons on the list from uscis and ask them for price for vaccine and vaccine transcribtion only, not full medical as many will insist you need one. When i moved to Orlando I had to call about 2 of them in a reasonable driving distance before finding one that didn't try to rip me off.

  3. We're ready to reapply for AOS again. Do I use the same form to apply, the i-485? I came here with K-1 visa but I got denied the first time because of my wife's insufficient income. Is i-485 the right form, or is it the i-130. Please help.

    Thank you.

also if its been a year since your medical for k-1 you'll need to see a civil surgeon and redo a whole medical for i-693.

  4. Part 6, question 5 you put a figure that the sponsor supposed to be earining this (current) year (2015). This figure will normally match current letter from the employer or paystubs if providing any. This figure can differ from 2014 total income due to pay rise, promotion, change of hours etc.

The amount form 2014 tax transcript goes into part 6, question 13a. Then 2013 will go in 13b and 2012 13c.

  5. My Fiancee and I will be arriving to U.S at the end of March, she has a K-1 Visa

I would like her to get a Florida ID aso soon as possible, I checked the requirements and she needs a social security card first.

My question is: How long does she has to wait in order to get that ID. How long does she has to wait to get SSC ??

Can she drive with her out of the country driver license?

It took me about 2 weeks to receive SSN car but that probably varies based on how busy offices are?

DMV in FL requires SSN name to match Passport and immigration documents. Drivers licence (and im pretty sure state id too) will only be valid as long as a legal presence document so in her case until I-94 expiration. I skipped that step and waited for EAD to get my DL valid for a year then renewed when my gc arrived.

  6. . But does completed and stamped marriage license equal a marriage certificate in Florida or are we completely off. Will we need another document for USCIS? If yes, how can we get it asap?

Thank you very much for your help!

In Florida marriage licence document becomes marriage certificate After the "certificate of marriage" part at the bottom of the licence has been filled, so when you'll request additional copies all you'll get is a (photo)copy of the same picece of paper (marriage lice ence) with clerks red stamp on it.
  7. Hi. When me and my wife got our marriage certificate, we noticed they miss-spelled her fathers first name. We were told it will take a couple months to fix. Our problem is we need to send in our AOS packet before my wife's medical is expired next month. Does anyone know if we will have a problem if we sent it with the misspelling? Could we send explanation letter? thank you

P.S. She came here on a K 1 visa and we live in CA

Send it the way it is and meanwhile get it fixed. Usics may or may not notice/care about such a minor discrepancy and worse case scenarion you'll get rfe and by that time you'll hopefully get a corrected certificate.

  8. Hi agnes, im literally in the same situation as you were in!

Im outside Orlando, and theres literally ####### all to do, no bus'es, people, anything really, its a very small town. but I imagine when I start working things will pick up.

Yes public transportation around Orlando is really bad, i was lucky that both downtown and southwest orlando i was within cycling distance to shops, restaurants library etc. and after overcoming that "out of place/they know im not from around here" feeling I was fine also getting a dog was a great idea for me :-)

  9. Hi Darnell,

    Hi agnesb,

    Thank you for your answer.

Beside stores and restaurants there isnmt much on his way.. he also leaves at 5AM and comes back at 5PM. It wouldn't be very safe for me to just be outside like that. It's a bit dangerous in certain parts.

Also we don't live downtown, I haven't seen any bus stop near by or anything... The closest store is about 50min walk from here and my husband doesn't feel secured knowing I'm out by myself ^^

Therefor for everything outside the house I'll have to wait to be on my own. I will jut wait to get a car, I don't want to buy a scooter I would just have for 1/2 months, it's money I can put towards a car :/

We're not close to downtown Memphis, and I've only been there 3x ... therefore it's not really where I'd go unless I have a job there.

I'm a bit worried here since it's also a bit dangerous with all the shootings and burglaries.

That's why I would like to make online friends for now :)

I get you. I felt like that after arriving to US and hearing about shooting or pedestrians hit every single day in Orlando. It was real and close. We lived downtown for first few months and was terrified of walking around by myself. After moving to suburbs I still felt strange and out of place but it passed and I hope you'll feel confident being by yourself soon. Maybe a google maps scout will help you familiarize yourself with the area and who knows maybe you'll find an organization nearby where you could volunteer, a library or a park?

  10. My concern with this is that he has already been in school in Ireland for almost two years, he can read, write, add and subtract, times tables etc. Would he be way ahead?

Anything else you feel would be useful to know would be more then welcome.

    Thank you

If it's of any help a lot of kids go to preschool ages 3-5 so chances are he wont be the only one that done 2 yrs of school before going to kindergarden or 1st grade.

  11. You probably read it already but just in case... https://www.healthcare.gov/what-if-im-pregnant-or-plan-to-get-pregnant/. Also may be worth calling Planned Parenthhood and maybe ask at community.babycenter.com - i think i've seen some discussions about low cost clinics where the girls can go and get usual pregnancy care etc . If you decide to deliver in US and are not high risk pregnancy then you may want to consider midwife care and delivery at the birthing center which will be like half price of OB care and hospital delivery.
