At last, I finally got my date! My interview will be on April 4th! So exited! I am a late September filer so I hope all October filers for the Memphis office get their apt soon!

Congratulations! I'm particularly excited to hear about yours because it's the first real activity I've seen in Memphis for months! Keep us posted!

QuietForce, well done to you too! Let us know when you get the letter! :D

Just got done with my interview in Baltimore.

    I PASSED!

    Oath date 03/08/17

Same interview experience as above. Was asked all of the Yes/No questions in the N400. Followed by the Civics and History test.

Some Qs I rememer: "What is the National Anthem of the US? , What do the 13 stripes of the American Flag represent? , What does the rule of law mean? "

There are three more I think, all from the 100 Qs USCIS provided.

    Yay!

Congratulations..!! That's a fast oath ceremony date - almost done! :)

    Hi Frannyglass,

First of all congratulations. I have a question. Can you travel abroad after the interview? Some of my friends told me that I won't be able to travel after the interview until I become a citizen. This didn't sound right to me but I'm confused a little bit. Since you are traveling after the interview I'm assuming they are wrong.

I don't know that it's accurate to say that you can't travel between interview and Oath Ceremony - I think it's more a matter of what's practical: you will give up your green card at the interview (from what I understand) so you won't have a document that allows you back into the US until you have a US passport. But I could be wrong!

    Hello All,

The message below posted in December on my myUSCIS account. Letter has still not arrived. Is anyone else in this situation, same message - no letter?

"On December 6, 2016, we scheduled an interview for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization , Receipt Number NBCXXXXXXXXX.

We will mail you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice."

Have you contacted them, Faith, to ask what date your interview is?

I guess there are  many reason why people go all the way through to filing the N400... for me, it was more you are where you are, and you need to BE from here. Get on with it. So, I did :D

That's exactly the same as my feeling - I don't want to be a foreigner indefinitely, so if I'm staying here (even for a while) then I want to be part of the place, I want a voice, I want to be able to vote etc.

I have all the patience in the world ..

I just thought it was completely messed up to see others filing after me getting interviews scheduled before me

To be fair, that's because we only see it from a timeline point of view - we don't see the reasons behind. There can be any number of reasons why one file can appear to be processed faster than another. I used to see that a lot when we were at the I-129F stage, eventually I stopped worrying about it because it doesn't speed up our own case :)

This is soo frustrating! I remember when my husband filed for his citizenship in 2009, he got through with the entire process in less than 3 months!... I don't know why, but I was thinking that maybe it was still the same way... :(

It would seem that a much greater number of applications was received late Spring 2016 with the rise in popularity of Trump, in anticipation of adverse changes to immigration law. Something, I have to admit, I wasn't aware of when I applied in October. Just have to wait it out.

We came close to having a triple up :) I was trying to work out where the missing one fit in, and Boom, there is was!

I think that's right, just the two dates coming up, soon I hope.  I wish they get a move on,  people like Frannyglass would like to know to book travel or whether to wait. Hard to know what to do, because there is no way of knowing when they will summon you. With my luck, I'd be away. I decided to pass on a seat sale, because I just don't know *when*.  Would have meant $900. in savings...meh. I'll be glad when I can come and go as I please.

I know, it's really frustrating when you're waiting to make a trip home! My husband had major surgery last week so we're going nowhere for a while, just as well since we're in travel limbo. I feel for those with trips booked or having to let flight sales go, we typically pay $1k to $1300 each for a flight to the UK and can't wait to be able to come and go as we please so we can find good deals. Everyone says that the naturalization process is the 'simplest' application process but it doesn't feel that way right now!

Sharp eyes, Shezi. I think we are all back where we were now?

Oops.. I spent so long combing through the last 2 pages that Shirezu beat me to it and posted an update! :D

So it seems that we are waiting for interview date updates from Kim&Jos and Uwe - this means we have 4 interviews for Dallas and 4 for Phoenix - seems like there is movement! I will be glad to get through this process before immigration rules change even more drastically!

Obviously, being British, driving on the left is perfectly natural for me :D Having said that, driving on the right is somehow easier. My husband's big thing when driving in the UK is roundabouts:

    a) they're everywhere! and

    b) he looks left first.....

... it's nearly 5 hours return for me, from here to Memphis.

It's a 5 hour drive from here to Memphis - that's a 10 hour return journey for us

Hey! first of all thanks a lot for the help.As a matter of fact,I am from India and yes I did not work for one whole year before arriving to USA on K1 and I did not work the whole year after arriving here.I am little confused about:-

    • bank statements from UK bank (checking and savings)
    • FBAR for UK bank
    • mortgage statement on UK house (the interest is a deductible)
    • P60 and payslips for Teacher Pension in UK
    • I never worked as a teacher.I do not have a house on mortgage in India.

Then you won't have to supply the docs I supplied. I was just giving you an example of the kind of things you need to send but of nothing applies to you that should be a straight forward tax file.

    Hello to a fellow Volunteer!

My wife and I have been dealing with Memphis on and off since 2003 and seems like things haven't changed that much. My "favorite" story about Memphis was back when my wife sought her first EAD.  Mind you this was back in the days before Infopass appointments and back the field office handled, at least interim EADs, internally.  We contacted our congressman about the delay in getting the EAD and the liaison we spoke to told us we could travel to Memphis and get an interim EAD since it was past 90 days, she only suggested that we arrive at the office first thing to ensure that we would be seen.

So, we make the 7 hr trip on a Sunday and manage to stay at a hotel across the street from the office.  We decided to check the place out that evening when we got there.  Imagine our surprise to find a note on index card taped to the door that said "Interim EADS only processed on Fridays."  We headed to the nearest computer we could find to double check the website.  Nope, that little bit of information was nowhere to be found on the office website.

The next morning we headed to the office and while in line waiting for the office to open, on the phone to our congressman.  The liaison we spoke with was livid when she found out that Memphis had made this policy change hadn't let anyone know.  (If I remember correctly, they had made the change about a month earlier, and had only posted it on the door)  After some back and forth between the congressional office and the field office, my wife got her 1 year EAD (according to her, they were not happy at all to have to process an EAD on a day beside Friday).  Less than 2 weeks later, the change was posted on their website.

After all that when we called to thank her, she mentioned that the Memphis office was consistently disorganized and poorly managed.   We survived the AOS and would have had to return only one more time after the EAD adventure. (If they hadn't misspelled her name on her green card).

It's funny you say that... I waited 9 months for a green card when I adjusted status. Called a couple of times to see what was going on and didn't get very far. We sent a letter to both our senators on the Friday of Labor Day weekend - got a call from both offices the following Tuesday, my AOS was approved the next day... Sometimes... well you just have to use what you have, right?  Hello back at ya! I'm west Knoxville
