Went looking for the wife's passport because I was buying airfare for a vacation in Brazil this September, couldn't find it. When the wife found it, her green card (which is always in the passport) wasn't there. I was beginning to second guess myself because I was the one who handled it last and made copies of it for the Removal of Conditions packet, "did I lose it?" came to mind... I started thinking it may have fallen in the envelope for RC packet, maybe I left it work, maybe (god forbid) I lost it at Staples or the Post office... But no, I knew the importance of the green card, no way would I have been so careless with it. So, where the hell was it?! Argh!

After turning the house upside down, we found it, right next to her passport.

Better to clean the house than to pay $400.

Hey, it's been a while since I've posted. We're getting ready to submit our I-751 tomorrow. We have evidence, would like people's input to see if I'm missing anything. I did follow the guide.

- Cover letter

- Fee $590

- Form I-751

- Copy of her green card, back and front

- Copies of both our state ID's showing same address

- Tax transcripts for 2012, 2013, 2014; married filing jointly

- Letter, not a lease, describing our living arrangements

- Statements of two credit card accounts showing my wife as an authorized user and card holder

- Retirement account and pension for me, with her as a beneficiary

- Health insurance card for me and statements with her as a beneficiary

- Auto insurance policy showing a joint account

- Bank statements showing a joint checking account

- Two life insurance policies for me with her as a beneficiary

- Statements of two utilities showing joint account

- Flight itineraries, boarding passes, and passport stamps for vacations in Ecuador, Argentina, Chile and Southern California (K1 visa in passport is included in this)

- Photos of us with our pets, and vacation photos. 7 photos.

I was really disgusted with Lenny's recent hairball, or rather hairstick. This barf in now way resembled a ball or hair for that matter, it was just a long stick made of goo. And hair.

Lenny must've eaten something in the backyard (we let them go out), because he eats greenies dental treats all the time and this episode was the first. He's keeping everything down now, including greenies (which he loves).

Lenny went the whole day without barfing, good news. He loves greenies, he eats like 10 pieces in one sitting, the expiration date on it is good. Could it be a bad batch? I'm afraid to give him some, but I have to confirm. They do say: when in doubt, throw it out. Guess I'll do that...

Lenny, my eldest, has barfed four times today. I'm starting to get worried. He's not down, he's his normal self, playing and being cheerful. Perhaps something affected him? Keep in mind that Carl the cat ate from the same can and is also his usual self (kneading my gut) and has not barfed. What do you guys think?

Note: Lenny ate greenies treats, that's what started the barfing, Carl did not, as he doesn't like them. Could it be that?

Anyways, a lot of banks offer the service of changing an account to different type. For example, from a checking to a savings. My husband and I have separate checking accounts and one joint savings account. If you wanted, you could convert your account to a savings, deposit small amounts each month to continue building transaction history, and keep separate checking accounts to keep yourself from going crazy

Of course this is assuming you'd want a savings account, but most people do.

Thanks for this. It never occurred to me to set up my current savings account to a joint account, I always thought: checking, checking and more checking, never savings. This will be a lot easier than having to get direct deposit on three checking accounts with two jobs. Thanks!

This might slightly deviate from your original question but I just wanted to share another option of having some sort of individual account with the other listed as a beneficiary. As one example, if you ever decide to pull some money out of your joint account and invest it in a Roth individual retirement account where you are the sole owner, you can list your spouse as the beneficiary. Vice versa with your wife having her own account and you as beneficiary. In such an instance, you each get to keep your money to yourselves while listing each other as beneficiaries and still remain safe with the immigration process. Of course, roth IRA is just one example of several investment options. Many people often overlook the fact that USCIS will consider joint or single owner with beneficiary investments as co-mingling of finances. This is just a food for thought if you ever think about it.

Thank you for the advice and the different perspective. I already have a Roth IRA and she is listed as my beneficiary. In addition to that, she is also my beneficiary on my pension.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Having ease of banking vs. a complicated ROC process? I think we'd rather rough it out, keep our joint account and hopefully have an easy process. Our journey has been pretty easy so far, why mess that up?

She does plan on naturalizing and we were thinking on just ending our joint account after ROC; holding out another year until she's eligible to naturalize will probably leave me bald. Us having a joint account and individual accounts for ourselves seems like too much of a pain, we will keep that in the back of our minds though. I'm hoping that we just had a bad week and that it'll get easier as we go along, if it doesn't, we'll explore the three-accounts option.

Hello, my wife and I have been married almost two years now, and she's had her Conditional Residence for a year now. Ever since she got a job we've been having some complications over monies deposited into our joint checking account. After a couple of pay periods, she and I agreed that once this whole immigration business is over she wants her own checking account, and end our joint account. Well, yesterday she and I had a big confusion over the allocation of certain funds and we were quite flustered. In the end, we figured it out, but it was annoying to say the least.

My question is this: can we end our joint account now and have her open her own account? We still have another 9 months before she is eligible to remove conditions, is it absolutely vital to have a joint account? We have plenty of other evidence, we file taxes as "married filing jointly", both our names are on our utilities, she's my beneficiary on all my life insurance policies, she's an authorized user on one of my credit cards, etc...

Will it be a big deal, or is it better just to rough it out, pull out my hair, and just wait after conditions have been removed?
