In an effort to save my marriage I asked him to go to counseling with me and he refused.  He sees nothing wrong with taking and saving for himself more than he's contributing to the household.  The hurt that comes from my spouse not wanting to help me the way I helped him is devastating.

It definitely sounds like he doesn't think about your future or even your present. That is just wrong.

When you marry someone, you share a life. It sounds like he dragged you into his, and you're just in it to make it work out for him.

Wouldn't potential asylum seekers accept the first location where they are safe and have the offer of settlement and assistance in resettlement,

I think they're supposed to apply at the 1st country they go to. US has a process that could take months. If they get refused, they can apply somewhere else. The first country concept is used so that asylum seekers won't apply to multiple countries at once.

Look back in history, and try to find a time when US military forces fired upon unarmed civilians for the fun of it.  I don’t think the crowd of people trying to come here are in any danger.  But the military will also help prevent that casual stroll across the border into anonymity.

Or help border patrol get to those places. i imagine the military has more planes to do that.

  3. I should have been clearer.

The "50 people in 10 minutes" comment was referring to the Las Vegas shooting last year where at least 50 people were killed in 10 minutes. -- that's the kind of firepower I was referring to.

I don't pretend to know guns. I have a gun, but I neither hunt nor do I want to. I do know about gun violence and what changes can be done to lessen access to guns & gun mechanisms that can kill a child who accidentally finds it in their grandpa's office (safe) or an adult that will bring it to a Jewish synagogue (improve technology).

Your walther and an Ar15 work the same way, both are semi-automatic, the rifle is more accurate the pistol allows you to close with your target relative easier, 1 pull equals one shot, people tend to run from bullets rather than towards, so both are relatively safe to the shooter unless matched in firepower or someone can resist human nature and face the threat unarmed.

Your arguement should be about magazine capacity, your walther can get a magazine with 11-12 rounds I believe, pistols are easy to reload, so the sustained rate of fire would be pretty close. In the absence of a credible threat someone could expect to get off 30+ aimed shots in 2 minutes with either weapon.

Ha. That is why I mentioned what gun I owned. I’m clearly just a pistol owner. Yes, it’s only 12.

  5. I’m sorry this happened to you.

i don’t know your spouse and how you address conflict in your marriage. But it seems like you need a marriage counselor and a financial counselor.

Money was a very important issue for my spouse and I as we both have had experiences going into credit card debt prior to us having met. I also came from an Asian country where the adult kids are expected to “give back” to their parents and to everyone else who needs in their extended family. Luckily, my parents didn’t raise us that way and they certainly did not oblige us to “give back”.

It is wrong that he entered into a marriage where his priorities remain to be back home instead of with you. I would never tolerate that with any partner.

So what do you want to happen?

For me personally, I am for making guns safer and for more difficult access to those with capability to shoot 50+ people in under 10 minutes. And I am also open to legislation requiring gun owners to use safes when their guns are not in use, much like how  law enforcement officers in countries like Germany are required to do so.

I speak as a person who only owns a Walther PPK.

Of course.  Military troops are not law enforcement.  They just maintain order and assist the police.  But the law is already stretched WAY too thin at the border as it is.  They will need help.

Nobody lays out concertina wire quite like the infantry does...

I don't necessarily think it’s a bad idea to have military troops there. I just don’t like the rhetoric of them gunning down people. But, the US military has so much capacity for what O’Shaughnessy and Nielsen said above. I’ve heard and witnessed military activities in situations even more dire than this is predicted to be.

If the process can be made so that it can ease the burden on Border Patrol and facilitate the needs of the potential asylum seekers, that would be great.

Haven't read much on whether major parties are at odds internally about this. I just saw Paul Ryan's reaction to the potential EO.

With the history behind the 14th Amendment and anything constitution-related really, I never expect things to be smooth politically, lol.

Take for instance, the 2nd Amendment, interpretations of it vary. Some Republicans are against toy guns in schools while others are all for it, citing that it's a violation of the 2nd.

600 in St. Louis County mistakenly told ineligible to vote

    Quote

St. Louis County election officials are working to notify 600 voters who were mistakenly sent letters telling them they are ineligible to vote on Tuesday.

Republican election director Rick Stream on Thursday acknowledged the error to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch . Postcards have been sent to the voters, but it’s not certain if they’ll arrive before the election...

Stream said the error was the result of confusion by election workers processing voter registrations that arrived after Missouri’s Oct. 10 deadline. The board sent letters to 1,500 voters saying their registrations were received too late for the Nov. 6 election...

The problem marked the second in recent weeks involving St. Louis County’s election office. Last month, about 12 percent of county voters received the wrong sample ballots in the mail due to a print vendor’s mistake. New ballots were later sent...

  11. Aaaaaand guess what, he pleaded NOT GUILTY. 😒

    Quote

The anti-Semitic truck driver accused of gunning down 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue pleaded not guilty Thursday to federal charges that could put him on death row, as funerals for the victims of the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in American history continued for a third day.

Robert Bowers, 46, was arraigned one day after a grand jury issued a 44-count indictment charging him with murder, hate crimes, obstructing the practice of religion and other crimes.

    ...

“Yes!” Bowers said in a loud voice when asked if he understood the charges.

Authorities say Bowers raged against Jews during and after the massacre. He remains jailed without bail.

Bowers, who was shot and wounded during a gun battle that injured four police officers, walked into court under his own power, his left arm heavily bandaged. He was in a wheelchair at his first court appearance Monday.
