As an update, my step son received his ROM paperwork from the San Francisco Consulate yesterday.  So he is officially married in the Philippines and the rest of the world too.  The Utah online wedding made it all possible and he was married when he made it back to the Philippines the day before his son was born.  Everything, including the timing worked out great!

What was the timeline from filing ROM to receiving the completed paperwork back from the Consulate?    :)

We tried changing my wife's name on her Philippine passport (to her married name) last year in Chicago and did not have the right ROM documentation. She renewed it in her maiden name as it was expiring.

We are flying to the Philippines for two weeks next month. Does it make sense to try to get the name change done there or fly back to Chicago sometime in the future? The airline ticket is in her maiden name, of course.

DON'T mess with the passport while in the Philippines,  your wife needs to keep her old passport for travel so the names match in the ticket and passport.

She will need to make sure to carry a copy of your marriage certificate as the name on her green card won't match the passport.

  3. DFA will want the PSA certified copy .. just have to wait.     You have time, she won't need the new passport until the interview.

Your wife will need the info from the copy you received back from the consulate, send her a copy so she can take that to PSA to get the certified copy (if you haven't done so already)

She doesn't need to get a new postal ID unless she wants to .. she will be moving to the USA ;)     Just the new passport is all that is necessary.

Do they need a greencard if both parents are U.S. citizens? Wouldn't they be eligible for U.S. citizenship immediately?

So to clarify, if we don't pay, they can still travel without any obstruction?

They can travel to the USA without first paying the Immigration fee .. but it will have to be paid before USCIS will start the processing of their green card .. and yes I know they will become USC through their mother, but the process is the process.

    Pay the fee!

Once all the processing is completed I suggest you get them both U.S. passports as that will be their only evidence of U.S. citizenship, they will not be issued a Naturalization Certificate

    Hi,

We are about to start the process for K1 and K2 visas but I received new information from a friend who migrated to Singapore years ago. Her annulment was granted and full custody was given to her with visitation rights given to the biological dad. When she tried to bring her son to Singapore, she was required to get consent from the dad even if she had full custody. She had a hard time because her ex wasn't cooperative.. My annulment decree says that I have ABSOLUTE custody of my kids and my ex is given visitation rights. Will I need to secure a parental consent for my children or will that be sufficient since I was given absolute custody? I have read a lot of information on this here but what my friend told me about her experience just worries me so I want to make sure. Thanks in advance.

Who required the consent letter when your friend brought her son to Singapore?  Was it a Singapore request?

With the U.S. visa process the embassy is quite aware that the mother has sole custody of the child the vast majority of the time, such as with you..  Consent letters have never been required by the embassy.

Apparently, I was reading old posts so I expected a sealed envelope. I called embassy they told me exactly what you said hank. I asked about the 220 homeland security fee needed to enter through immigration. The lady said if the embassy didn't give us then it isn't required. That doesn't make me feel confident so I will be sending extra 220 with my wife just in case. Or is it better to just go ahead and pay using a number on visa? As far as uscis ELIS fee. I am not sure. It isn't sounding familiar. I know I paid all the fees in each step of the process but I will double check that if I can figure out where to look again. Haha. Thanks for reply and help hank

Others have posted on the ELIS fee, follow the link provided  ... get 'er done  .. so there is no delay in the production of your wife's green card.

My wife does not have a booster dose (she is getting her second primary dose a week from today), so she would still need to get tested.

She does have her U.S. passport.

We did not complete a Report of Birth. The daughter was born in the United States - does that matter?

Is it a problem that we will be flying using a non-Filipino airline? Where would they get the BB stamp? - from who and where?

Report of Birth (ROB) is for children of Filipino parent (s) born in a foreign country (USA in this case) so they have their Philippine citizenship recognized.    Its a good thing to get done.   This is filed through the consulate representing the state where the child was born.

You can fly any airline you like.   The BB stamp is acquired at the immigration booth as you enter the airport, simple ask for the stamp and present evidence (old passport) then your wife and child can get the stamp.

I was just slightly concerned with the passport as the Philippine passport isn't valid for international travel anymore.  Glad she has the U.S. passport

    Hello,

I was wondering if there would be any issues flying to the Philippines from Canada. My wife and daughter plan to fly (they are both U.S. citizens). The reason they are flying from Canada is because we live close to the border and it is more affordable this way.

My wife is a former Filipino citizen so I believe she has Balikbayan privilege and thus does not need to apply for a visa, nor for the daughter since they are flying together. Is this correct?

My wife will only have been vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccines and not with the booster so she needs a negative PCR test 48 hours prior to the flight. The daughter is an infant.

    Are there any potential issues?

Thanks. Just trying to cover all my bases.

That is correct,  your wife and daughter can obtain the BB stamp in their passports.

Did you complete Report of Birth to the Philippines for your daughter?   She would be a dual citizen, thus can have both U.S. and Philippine passport and would not need the BB stamp.

There's a new Philippines travel update, with some good news! The latest IATF resolution removed several of the requirements for entry into the Philippines - no more RTPCR tests, no more travel insurance, and I have a warning about a new scam related to obtaining the OneHealth Pass! I'll post a link to the new resolution, along with the current list of requirements for entry.  "

She is full Filipino. She received US citizenship this year but still has her Filipino passport. I think she is considered a “former Filipino citizen.”

Yes she is a "former citizen"  ...  Carrying her old Philippine passport will provide evidence of this to obtain the BB stamp

Does your wife have her U.S. passport?      (A silly question but asking)

Hello everyone. I don't remember how this works. Any info is much appreciated.

My fiancee just got her K1 visa, CFO completed, and we are flying together on June 5. Manila to Tokyo to LA to Sacramento. So the first point of entry will be at LAX, with plenty of time to make our connecting flight to Sacramento.

Last time I visited the Philippines in 2019, I'm pretty sure my checked luggage went all the way through to Sacramento when I returned. I'm reading some general information that a non-citizen has to get their luggage before going through Customs/Immigration. So how does this work for us?

We land together at LAX, and my fiancee's checked luggage will be on the carousel at baggage claim? She picks up her luggage, goes through Customs/Immigration, then re-checks her luggage with the airline? What about my luggage, will that still go all the way to Sacramento? Does the initial check-in airline somehow designate my fiancee's luggage differently than mine, based on her US immigrant status?

You and your fiancee will clear immigration/customs.  At immigrations stay in the same line with your fiancee (not sure of what line, ask the agent as you enter immigration).     You will collect your luggage before you clear customs (you did it last time too  ;)  ), you will have to re-check your luggage for the flight to Sacramento.

So I was not sure if I should post here or under bringing family member of  permanent resident. I posted here because of the fact that there are documents that are needed and only for the Philippines. I figured the people here have better understanding on which document exactly does the NVC needs..

Please help! So my mom received an email from NVC yesterday. I logged in today and had all these docs rejection. It basically says for each to replace with an acceptable documents from a correct issuing authority. Im not sure what exactly they mean. No specific of which exactly do they need. Like for instance, it did say to submit police certificate and they rejected the one my mom submitted. Even my I-864a and birth certificate as prove we are mom and daughter. What should I do?

for tax return and I864A it was saying “We are unable to accept these documents as uploaded. Please add Katherine as a household member under Nora. All documents for Katherine should be submitted under their own name.

I really would appreciate your prompt response. Thank you!

The police clearance = NBI ? or .. ?    All birth documents were from PSA?    The tax document was a transcript from the IRS?   The I-864A was the current version?    Proof of citizenship, did you use a copy of your U.S. passport page ... or ?  .. and for your mom a copy of her green card?

Other thought if all documents were correct, are the scans clear or complete .. or there is a glitch at NVC end.

Best suggestion is to contact NVC, call during business hours (east coast)   or email

  12. Not needed.   The I-134 asks for a variety of info that isn't necessary with for the K-1;  you only need to provide income information.  Not assets, banking or such unless they are needed to meet income requirements.

With that said since 2014 the embassy has been very sporadic about even asking for financial support documentation, still listed as required but most times not asked for during the interview.

  13. 5 hours ago, PIRuby said:

what about the 864 and financials that they say are not needed?

    Bring original and copies.

    Do take note of this:

However, you must bring every civil document you uploaded and submitted with your application to your visa interview.   "

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-8-scan-collected-documents/step-9-upload-and-submit-scanned-documents.html

  14. CENOMAR is needed for single persons 18 or older.   Not sure if it is required with a student visa, you will have to look at the required documents list for that type visa.

A married person would request a CENOMAR from PSA, because they are married PSA would issue a CEMAR (Form 5 advisory of marriage) < that is needed for the interview.
