    If you checked off 'yes' on the DS-230 for the SSA to assign a SSN, then yes, it should arrive in the mail. But it's not guaranteed. It's suggested here on VJ that after three weeks, if the SSN hasn't arrived, then go apply in person at a local SSA office. This is what I had to do. My SSN never arrived in the mail, so after 3 weeks from me POE date, I went to local SSA office here in town (was pleasantly surprised to know there was one in my town). Took only 10-15 minutes to apply, and 10 days later, my SSN was in the mail :)

    There's really nothing to do after POE. Just wait for the green card and SSN in the mail. If you have a question in mind though, I'd be more than happy to answer, as always! :)

    Really? the POE officer told us we'll get the GC in mail & we can use the stamp in the passport as GC for now.

    But we heard nothing about getting SSN# in mail.

    hmmmm... so you are saying with CR1, we'll get SSN# in mail? how soon?

    Got Visa, Flying to US but to London first, any issues?

    Hey guys,

    I have just received my US visa.

    I have booked my flight to US.

    Flying from: India to London (British Airway) to Dallas Texas (American Airline) and then to final Destination city in US (American Airline) .

    My q's:

    1) Would i face any issues? since i'm stopping in London? connecting flight 2 hrs wait time

    2) What paper works do i need besides my Immigration papers to US?

    Hey guys, I'm just wondering should I call the NVC at this point as I'm waiting over a month to hear back from them after my NOA2, would it do any good or will they just tell me to wait some more? I have already emailed them but apart from an automated response I haven't heard back yet. Also since I can't really afford to call America is ot ok for my mother in law in the States to inquire on my behalf? Thanks for any help, starting to wonder what the delay is now.

    I got my NVC Case # after 8 days from NOA2 so don't give up !

    YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY NOA2 IS APPROVED....GOS IS SOOOOOO AMAZING..I GOT A TEXT AT 12AM STATING MY CASE WAS UPDATED AND I JUST CHECKED THE USCIS WEBSITE AND WALA APPROVED!!..I CANT SLEEP AND IM TRYINF TO CALL MY HUSBAND TO CELEBRATE THE NEWS.OMG THIS IS ALMOST THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE YOU GUYS...thank u so much vj now on to the next stage!!This feeling and emotions i have is just amazing..Thank you GOD!!     I mean, when we give our medical report to VFS, do we also have to give our Chest X-Ray report to VFS also?

    or

    do we bring the chest x-ray report to the Interview?

    One thing that i'm wondering is that how do we know that these DHL packages are from NVC going to US Embassy in Beneficiary's country?

    Not sure it's the package, but many here including me had it work for them. It's a guessing game

    This search criteria is searching for ALL packages left via DHL on a given date, so it can be from anyone, correct? not just NVC. Someone from boston could have sent a mail or package via DHL. right?

    True, but the NVC does mail from Boston, MA. Call the embassy in about 5 days and you will know if it was indeed yours

    2) Since my case was said to be forwarded on april 10th, was i suppose to search by, start date: April 9? Yes this is the one I found and it would appear to be yours by the pick up date

    * Date range for shipment - To: 13 04 2012

    I've clarified with VFS. Except for the medical report, we do not need to submit anything to VFS unless we've been issued with a checklist. All proof of ongoing relationship, etc, need to be hand carried on the day of the interview.

    Hi Divs,

    I see, so only submit Unopened Medical report to VFS.

    Q's: 1) What about Chest X-Ray? someone mentioned that we take Chest x-ray to interview in unopened Envelope.

    Q's 2) Do we need Certified copy of our Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate for Interview? we have submitted Original and a copy of each to NVC.

    got some q's:

    1) So this method only shows any packages went from us to the beneficiary country? correct?

    if NVC says my case was completed and forwarded on april 10 to india, then this method will show all packages left US on April 10th to what ever dates.

    Correct?

    2) When i did a search for my situation, it only showed 2 sets of packages left to India.

    On April 12 and on April 13. So this means that even though my case was completed on April 10th, it didn't get shipped until April 12 or 13? or later...correct?

    I see, for me it looks like 1 way would be around $900 and round trip is around $1500.

    So for me it looks like i should just get the one way for around $900 and book the return with the beneficiary after getting the visa.

    I'm planning to attend my wife and step-daughter's interview in Santiago, Chile. I will buy a round-trip ticket for myself and book the return 7 days after the interview. For my wife and step-daughter I will be using my frequent flier miles to get them round-trip tickets with a return date months in the future. I know there is some risk to this because it can take longer than 7 days for the embassy to return the passports with the visa, but from the reviews i've read of that embassy they will get the visa out quickly.

    Generally two one-way tickets are more expensive than a round-trip ticket. In my case one-way tickets are over $2k where a round-trip is around $1,200. The higher priced one-way ticket does have greater flexibility and can be changed without any penalties whereas the discounted round-trip ticket is non-refundable and has a $300 fee to make changes plus any difference in airfare.

    I would suggest you price out both options and then find out what restrictions each option has and then make your decision from there.

    Did you guys call DOS or NVC? or both?

    I'm gonna use my cell phone... (it's pre-paid, but charged lol)

    My oldest just told all the littles "Everyone QUIET Mom's on the PHONE!"

    I called DOS and got the info.

    I just now called NVC and got the same info!

    NVC operator said i should be getting an email shortly. :dance: :dance:
