  1. Hi March fillers,

I send in my package on February 28,2014 to California service center and the check was cashed on March 05. Until now I have not received any extension notice. Should I be worried? How do I check the status of my case? Help needed

1--2 weeks after You should get letter saying your greencard has been extended for 1 yr. Also 1-2 weeks later you should get biometrics appointment letter.

Guys today is the 90 days preceding my green card expiration ( June 21 2014 ). I am not going to be able to mail out the package today, is this a problem? When is the latest time I can mail them?

just mail it asap. Ideally you should mail in early 90 days. Thats what I did.

  2. where to check for biometrics date status?

I just checked mine on USCIS and it says Cannot find it? My Receipt Date is 03/04/2014.

    Any idea whats going on?

When should i get my Biometrics appointment date assigned?

Lets post our updates here ! good.gif

  5. People are often confused about when to use none and when to use N/A. I always advise against using "NONE" in a middle name space. N/A or ---- are more applicable for that and work every time they are used. Worker bees make mistakes. I'm for making it easy for them to avoid mistakes.

What I was referring to with regard to instructions is that they are not specific about when to use none and when to use N/A. For example, if you have no former spouse, "None" is the correct answer for family name, followed by N/A for first name. When a question IS applicable, you do not answer with N/A. Once you've indicated there is no former husband, further questions about the former husband become N/A (not applicable) but until you've answered the question, it's applicable. Another example is the question about whether your relative is currently in the USA. Once you've check the NO box, the rest of the questions in that section become N/A.

You won't find those detailed distinctions in any instructions.

It makes sense to put N/A so to avoid any unintentional mistakes by worker bees.

Okay, so i have now changed NONE to N/A

    We'll see..... fingers crossed

  6. There is no specific instruction for handling no middle name. Yes, you can use NONE and N/A as applicable but None is an actual name in multiple languages. N/A or ---- would be the way to go in the future. Sounds like you'll be OK on the I-90. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to get the replacement green card.

I am reading the i-90 instruction and it says if the answer is "none" to put NONE

    http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-90instr.pdf

So regarding i-90 part III, Q3, i'll put the city (NEW DELHI) where i was living when my husband was petitioning for me?

  7. Answer with the city of your residence when you applied for a visa. It will be where you lived at the time you submitted the DS230.

Did your application indicate FNU or FNO as your middle name instead of N/A or ----? If so, it's really your fault but they'll probably correct it for free anyway.

All my Visa application had First name and Last name.

For middle name, i put NONE where NONE was instructed and N/A where N/A was instructed.

  8. Need to fix a name error, so i'm filing I-90. Yes, it is USCIS fault because they put FNU as my first name.

    Part III,

Q's #3: "City of residence where you applied for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status

    - Is this asking for where I currently live? Because i applied for Immigrant Visa to live in XYZ city.

But could be asking the city where i lived when the my husband applied for Immigrant Visa for me.

    Help !!!!!

Q's #4, "consulate where immigrant visa or USCIS office where adjustment of status was granted.

    - This is more clear, i would put New Delhi is where i got the US Immigrant Visa on my passport. so I believe the answer is "New Delhi".

  9. SSA issue SSN based on what's in SAVE database.

CBP manage SAVE database entries, so get into a secondary inspection office of CBP (No, don't telephone, you don't need an appointment - just find it and go) and fix this.

You'll need to have SOME document from IV Unit or NVC that has yer actual name on it, to fix this, at CBP in the USA - usually an appointment letter for visa interview at IV unit suffices...

Remember that Interview Letter Email? What name is in there ?

Sorry for the ignorance but whats CBP? got link so i can locate my local CBP location?...

  10. Looking at my US VISA, they entered for Given name: FNU or First Name Unknown. I have always thought FNU was some sort of a short "code" relating to immigration.

:bonk: How can anyone in their right mind at Immigration can enter: FNM or FIRST NAME UNKNOWN !!! ? :wow:

Why would they do that. I had entered everything correctly in all my visa application.

My SSN# Card came correct but the address had: UNKNOWN as my first name. When the local SS office looked into it the are seeing "FNU" as my first name.

MVD or DMV depend on SS office to verify the info via ssn# and name, dob etc..Local SS office told us to contact Immigration and that SS office depend on the Information given to them by Immigration office.

Upon some quick searching online, i'm seeing many folks having had the same issue but not seeing any solution to fix or correct this ridiculous mistake.

I suppose I need to call Immigration but wondering if you guys have experienced this issue and i'm just so frustrated and would like to know if anyone had gone through with this and ways they fixed it.

    HELP! :(:o

  11. Hi Saylin,

at POE, they did take Biometrics...hmmmmm confused now

So the letter says "ASC Appointment Notice Form I-797C, Notice of Action"

    "Service Center: TSC"

"Case type: X999 Unknown Form Type"

    It's got a bar-code and reads:

"To process your application, the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) must capture your biometrics.

PLEASE APPEAR AT THE BELOW APPLICATION SUPPORT CENTER AT THE DATE AND TIME SPECIFIED. IF YOU FAIL TO APPEAR AS SCHEDULED, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED."

Addresss of the "Application Support Center" and Appointment date and time.

"WHEN YOU GO TO THE APPLICATION SUPPORT CENTER TO HAVE YOUR BIOMETRICS TAKEN, YOU MUST BRING:

    1. THIS APPOINTMENT NOTICE and

    2. PHOTO IDENTITFICATION, Naturalization applicants must bring their Alien Registration Card, All other applicants must bring a passport, driver's license, national ID, military ID, or State-issued photo ID. If you appear without proper identification, your biometrics may not be taken."

Wait, what?! blink.gif Biometrics? Where's the letter from? USCIS? Were fingerprints not taken at POE? Please give me some more information yes.gif

    Hi Saylin,

Now that we got SS# card, we got a letter stating appointment for Biometrics.

Is this when we the GC?

    Whats this Biometrics about?

    thanks!

  12. Thank you !

Hope to get the GC soon now !!!

    Thanks you all !

Wow, grats on getting the SSN so fast!! No need to go to the SSA office now ;)

Yes, after 3 years from POE and if still married to the same person, you can apply for US citizenship. They (USCIS) will NOT initiate anything as you do NOT need to apply for naturalization, it's a completely optional process.

You and me did our POE same day and get our SSN same day!wow! Hopefully we will get our green Card on same day :D

Yay! Congrats to you :luv: :luv:

  13. Woohoo! got the SS Card yesterday, exactly 8 days after POE !

    Now waiting for GC!

Q's for Citizenship, do we apply after 3 years after POE? do we initiate the process or do "They" (who?) initiate it 3 years after our POE?

If you checked off 'yes' on the DS-230 for the SSA to assign a SSN, then yes, it should arrive in the mail. But it's not guaranteed. It's suggested here on VJ that after three weeks, if the SSN hasn't arrived, then go apply in person at a local SSA office. This is what I had to do. My SSN never arrived in the mail, so after 3 weeks from me POE date, I went to local SSA office here in town (was pleasantly surprised to know there was one in my town). Took only 10-15 minutes to apply, and 10 days later, my SSN was in the mail :)

You can only get a US passport if you're a US citizen. The naturalization process can only happen after 3 years from POE (if still married to the same person).

So if my spouse don't get US passport for next 3 years from our POE, then how does my spouse travel w/o US passport?

does she travel with her current Indian passport???

maybe i'm missing to understand something here..
