AOS status
in Canada
And you can sign up online to receive automated emails about your case when the status is updated.

APPROVED!!
in Canada
Congrats, happy POE to you!
-
You can do this yourself!
Thanks but Passport Canada has strict requirements and it has to be done professionally.

Time for me to renew my Canadian passport by mail. Unfortunately, my application was returned to me couple days ago because the passport pictures I sent had a slight bright spot on my forehead, due to the camera's flash. I went to Walgreens and AAA, and it seems like no one can take an acceptable flash free Canadian passport picture. My last hope right now is the post office...
Where do you guys get your passport pictures done in the U.S?

My husband to be has a business, is it possible that I work there until I get my GC, as a volunteer?
Tricky. No, you cannot "work" anywhere. Yes, you can volunteer. Wording, I agree but those words hold a very important difference for USCIS. As a volunteer without employment authorization, you cannot hold a position or do a job that would be otherwise paid. Or be paid later for a volunteering position you had while EAD/GC was pending.
You can help him out once in a while, but I would personally refrain from getting too involved in his business prior to receiving your EAD/GC.

Really? Kind of of funny coming from a country whose population is mostly from immigration. Besides Native Americans basically every single American has some kind of foreign heritage. Blaming foreigners for local problems is unfortunately nothing new. And I agree with Kimbear, those doing the legal process are not the ones leeching off the system.

It's a K1 my interview is on the 19th, it's on my timeline
Heh. I guess I'm lazy, I only look at the left banner profile "File for:" mention

Oh, hi thread
I was a troll, he was an undead on Cenarius... We both quit a while back and we're waiting for GW2.

Has anyone recently been approved in Montreal and received their Visa through DHL???? I'm just looking for a rough estimate of how long it takes to get
Please fill your timeline in your profile. We can't help if we don't know what kind of visa you applied for.

Wait until you get your EAD/AP card, then wait until you get your GC (or appointment letter for interview).
-
Just submit that worksheet with a letter that explains that you had a medical done in the past year and have also included a vaccination worksheet in place of the I-693. I don't think I even included the I-693 form at all and I was approved with no RFE.
I concur, I never included a I-693 in my AOS application, just my completed and valid vaccination sheet (DS-2035). I did not include an explanation letter; they know your K1 medical is valid for 12 months. If your wife gets an RFE for her medical when adjusting, she can see a civil surgeon in the U.S.
If it says incomplete because the vaccines "are medically inappropriate" you don't need a new medical. You'll be fine. Same if you had your medical done out of flu season and didn't have that shot. Do make a copy of everything you are sending them. If you have an interview, you'll need your file on hand.
I would however personally keep a copy of that medical the custom officers should have have taken until your AOS is over.
-
The DS 156 also lists things like birth certificate etc., those things you also bring to the interview, DO NOT mail them with packet 3.
That's valid for both K1 and your AOS later on. NEVER mail them an original unless you have a duplicate. You will not get your documents back. You provide originals at the moment of your interview, upon request. And make a copy of everything you send them for yourself.
-
It's been more like 6 months to AOS lately. Especially if your file gets transferred to your local USCIS office and they're backlogged. Or if you get a RFE or an interview. You can make an Infopass appointment, but there is no way to tell when you GC will be granted. It is unwise to make any travel plans until then since you don't have AP.
-
He can file for free if he does so same time as AOS. He does not need travel plans to do so.
EAD/AP combo card takes about 3 months to get and AOS has been more like 6 months lately. Yours to choose. But I liked knowing that if there was an emergency, I could leave and re enter the U.S.

DO listen do JeannieL and her words of wisdom!
And for the appointment, I had all my documents (including everything provided so far) in a binder, separated by labels (I-134, I-129F, G-325, etc) and originals in sheet protectors. Extra photos in a Ziploc bag and my passport and the appointment letter in the front pocket. They request you to show those right away so you don't want to fumble through all your stuff to find them.
You cannot be too organized

I flew as an unaccompanied minor. I was 13 years old. Back then, my parents made arrangements with the airline and I was accompanied through customs and walked through the airport until I was in the custody of my relatives who were picking me up. It is not uncommon for them but YOU need to make sure you make the arrangements ahead. And whoever is dropping the kids off at the airport, needs to confirm the procedure with the airline at the counter. And make sure your kids carry your contact info and ideally pictures of who is picking them up.

Be prepared and breathe
Everything will be fine, and don't forget to go pick up your medical ahead of time. He might be asked a couple questions like how you met, when you got engaged, if he or you visited, and that's about it. I remember I was a stress bag and could barely sleep the night before... soon it'll be over

You need to apply no later than 14 prior to your I-94 expiration date. I certainly recommend getting a SS in her maiden name and change it later. Makes it much easier to gather proof for an eventual AOS interview.
-
I am guessing you are adjusting for a K1? A basic research on the site will give you tons of information about AOS interviews. There is no way to know the questions ahead. If your case isn't complicated and doesn't have any kind of red flags, you shouldn't expect it to be hard. However you do need to show up prepared.
For a K1 interview, you do not need to prove the whole relationship, just evidence that you married within the 90 days and the bona fide relationship since the wedding. This usually includes: marriage certificate, wedding/honeymoon pictures, both names on utility bills, joint bank account, driver's license with same address, letter from employer saying your wife is beneficiary of your 401k and is on your emergency contact list, common health insurance, common car insurance, cards from friends & family, lease/property in both your names, etc.
Reviews of interviews are found in the Reviews: Embassy/USCIS & POE. You can search for your local USCIS office.
For the family letters, you can do that or friends. You can ask them to write and sign a letter that states they've known you and your wife for X amount of time, see you regularly and believe you are a legitimate couple that you are in a loving relationship and live under the same roof.
You should bring copies of everything. If you bring something they want to keep and you have not brought copies, they may keep the originals. For your pictures, you can make color copies of a couple pages of your albums and bring the albums as additional evidence.
-
Doesn't matter. Your K1 was void upon entry of the U.S. Save the I-94 for a potential AOS interview.
I assume you were indeed married within the 90 days period and are now gathering documents for your AOS. You can file AOS whenever you want. But as most will tell you, the sooner the better. You can't leave the U.S. before you receive your EAD/AP combo card or Green Card without abandoning your status. Things are also easier if you obtained your SSN before the last 14 days on your I-94. It is then easier to open bank joint accounts, get your name on utility bills and get your driver's license and such.

Snag one as soon as you can! They become very scarce at times and it is unpredictable to know when they will release new ones. I was in the 2011 Spring crew trying to book one and we went through a dry spell of 2-3 weeks without anything available. I initially booked for May and was later able to trade for an earlier appointment in April.
Once you have made an appointment, you can always go back and change it for another available date. Good luck!
-
No. Not unless you've had issues with USCIS before.
Its a pretty straightforward procedure. You can get help on these forums and read the guides here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides

The correct answers are the truth.
1. It's your Alien number, It's written bottom right of your visa (A# followed by 9 numbers)
2. If you entered on a K1, you're a K1. When applying for AOS you enter a period of authorized stay.
3. K1.
4. If you activated your K1, you went through secondary, were questioned and gave them your sealed package, hence yes, you went through customs and your were inspected.
5. I believe it's the control number. Perhaps someone else can confirm that.
6. I don't understand your question. If you didn't move to the US with any children, then no one is applying with you.

Don't do that. Working prior to receiving your approved EAD or GC is illegal. You can't just show them your GC later once it's issued.
The only thing you can semi expect to be done in a week is for them to acknowledge they received your application. You can check timelines on VJ but most people nowadays receive their EAD in about 3 months. GC can take 6 months when you adjust from a K1.
