Hi,

Before my now Husband petitioned for my K1, I was informed at the border by CBP in secondary that I had visited enough for the year and would need to withdraw my petition for entry and apply for the visa to be able to visit again. I did and waited for the visa to be issued to attempt a border crossing. My now husband and I went through the K1, got married, and I have since obtained my citizenship. Couple years ago, my husband, children and I visited relatives in Canada. I was traveling with a GC at the time and I was instructed to go to secondary to get cleared because of my past "offense". Not a big deal as CBP clear me right away, but we were held up for 45 minutes and ended up missing our connecting flight. They said whenever I would travel abroad with my GC and had to go to the "self declare" booth, I would be pulled into secondary. Nothing they could do.

I since had my naturalization interview and the IO never mentioned the "offense". I did however, to make sure there was no oversight, and the IO told me I could request to clear that off my file after having obtained citizenship to avoid having to be delayed on future trips.

Now, the IO told me to call, but the catch is my local USCIS office doesn't take calls. Nor have they had any available appointments to book online. I have no way to reach them. I tried to look online if there was a form to file a request, but couldn't find anything.

Does anyone have an idea what I should do? I am planning a visit to Canada this year and was hoping to clear that before the trip to avoid the inconvenience.

Or maybe now that it'll be my first time crossing the border as a USC with a US passport, I won't be flagged anymore and it's become a non issue...? Anyone has had a similar experience?

I don't think there's a "typical" case at this point. Some locations have same day oath, some don't, in which case you would receive your letter in the mail with your ceremony location and date weeks after your interview. For mass ceremonies, like in Albuquerque, the US district court is in charge and has established fixed dates for naturalization ceremonies. You can google their website and see if your city has one of those.

My oath ceremony was this morning. It was crowded as 196 people were naturalized at the convention center. It was lengthy too; the invitation said 8:30 but that's with an hour long registration period. It didn't actually start until about 9:45 and we were out a little before noon. What made it so long is that every new citizen was called by name to receive their certificate, graduation-style.

I am relieved to be done... and very excited to start this new journey. All the best to you guys with pending cases!

My interview was 03/21 and my USCIS online status changed today for "My Oath Ceremony Notice was Mailed".

The online message tells me to get back to them if I have not received the notice by May 4. Now perhaps the "one month out" is standard practice, but the next two upcoming ceremonies in my area being held April 29 and June 10, I am guessing I was scheduled for the one in June. Regardless which on it is, I am so happy to finally have :dancing: I will come back to update once I receive the notice.

Updated with my interview appointment.

I had my appointment this morning and I was out the door 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. It went well and the IO was at liberty to tell me I was approved I was sworn in, answered my 6 first questions correctly, was asked to read a brief sentence an to write it down. I presented two ID documents; driver's license and Green Card, no other originals were requested. We went over the "yes" and "no" answers of my application form and that was it. I am now waiting for my oath ceremony letter in the mail, which I understand may be a couple months out as it fills up quickly here.

To those who were wondering, I was asked "how many justices" there were and the answer is still 9.

BE AWARE! WRONG ANSWER IN THE BOOK AND AUDIO CIVIC LESSONS!

I started studying the book and listen to the audio cd that were given to me in the Support Center during my bio appointment and found a mistake. Seems I was given an old book.

Question #47 What is the name of the Speaker of the House of Representatives now?

Answer in book and cd - (John) Boehner

It's wrong answer. The Speaker of the House of Representatives now is Paul Ryan.

So guys, make sure you answer correctly.

I'm getting worried-- we received NOA with a 1/19 date and still haven't received biometrics appointment notice-- would you do a walk-in appointment?

For those applying under the 3 year marriage rule, is it recommended to attended the interview with your spouse? I remember the two of us having to attend for AOS, but I can't find much about the Naturalization interview.

The only evidence my appointment letter mentions are "1. Marriage certificate; 2. Proof of death or divorce for previous marriages; 3. Your spouse's birth or naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship". So I guess they are not required to attend...?

Congrats WyoCowgirl!

Since this is moving so fast, I have been trying to find more information on the civic examination. I was given a packet to study at my biometric appointment and I printed the 100 flash cards on the USCIS website.

I read somewhere the exam consist of 6 of the 100 potential questions. Is that accurate?

I have not received the letter with my appointment information yet. I have logged on the USCIS website HERE and entered my receipt number on my NOA to checked my case status.

It tells you where your case is at, but does not provide specifics.

Check out the Tool Tab on USCIS website for "Check your status online" or click HERE.

It will tell you which stage your case is at, but does NOT provide dates or specifics. Ex. It would say they sent you a notice for X, but will not provide a date or any instructions. You can call USCIS for specifics or check your mail. All the details are in the NOA you receive in the mail. Good luck!
