Do we keep or dispose of 'physical' expired conditional green card after receipt of permanent card?

Hard to google this one because all the results are just about expired green cards....

Once we have the new, permanent residency card in hand after removing conditions - what do we do with the physical 'expired' conditional card? Are we supposed to send it back? Can we just shred it? Do we need to keep it for some reason?

Hello,

In the month of March I received I-551 on my passport. The green card and the renewal letter are 18 months overdue. I want to fly to see my parents . Can anybody please share from their personal experience whether anybody has had problems at the airport when boarding a plane under this situation?

Many thanks

Amending taxes for 2019/20 with SSN recieved in 2021.

Hello all. Thank you for this wonderful group and great support that many people get here.

My question is about taxes. We got married in 2019. My husband filed as single that year because I didn't have SSN. Same for 2020. With reading topics here I learned about ITIN but we were to close to our interview and didn't want to send passports.

Me and our son successfully passed the interview. Got to the US in March. Got our SSNs week later.

On this forum and on Facebook groups people were mentioning amending tax returns after getting SSN. So we got an appointment with the company that did my husband's taxes. They say it's impossible to change anything but from now and on my husband can add us to his taxes.

I don't trust them very much because since 2019 they never told my husband about ITIN which we could easily prepare before 2020 tax season.

So he filed as Single both previous year? Can he amend the tax returns if we got SSN in 2021?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I-134 Supporting Docs Questions

Hello!

For the K-1 I-134 Affidavit of Support (Kyiv requests it in the list of docs to bring to the interview), I currently have the following docs:

  • Letter from employer
  • Recent pay stubs
  • Last year's W2

I'm in the process of getting the letters from my banks where I have accounts that have had deposits from my employer (letters to include the following info per the USCIS I-134 instructions):

  1. Date account opened;
  2. Total amount deposited for the past year; and
  3. Present balance.

Problem/Question: CapitalOne can send me what they call a Verification of Deposit, but that doesn't include the total amount deposited for the last year. The guy on the phone (they are a mostly online bank with no local branches where I live) said they cannot send a document that has item 2, the total amount deposited for the past year. Has anyone else ran into this? I guess I can print out my online statements for each month and combine that with the document that CapitalOne can send me. Not sure how strict the consulate officers are with this at the interview.

Questions:

  1. I make more than enough from my normal salary/job to support my fiance. I also receive a little bit of rental income which I report to the IRS each year. Do I need to go through the trouble of showing this information for the K1 Visa interview? I assume not from what I've read on this forum about 'if your salary is enough, you're good to go' - but my concern was if they see rent deposits, it may bring up questions if I don't show that info. Or is that kind of detail more for when applying for the greencard?

Thank you!
