Misplaced my wife's Green Card 48-month extension letter. How can I get a replacement?

My wife's 2-year Green Card expired in January 2023.

She applied for Removal of Conditions in October 2022.

At first, she received an I-797 (NOA) with a 24-month extension period to her residency status.

We still have a copy of the 24-month I-797 and used it when we traveled abroad last year.

Later, she received another I-797 with a 48-month extension period to her residency status.

Unfortunately, I misplaced that I-797.

Originally, I thought this wouldn't matter because VisaJourney was estimating that her Removal of Conditions application would be processed by June 2024, which means that the original 24-month extension would be sufficient until she received her new 10-year Green Card.

However, VisaJourney is now estimating that her Removal of Conditions application will not be processed until July 2025 (!), which is AFTER her 24-month extension expires. This means that we NEED to get another copy of her 48-month extension letter which I misplaced.

Problem is I have no idea how to get a replacement copy. I tried calling the USCIS phone number, but I was only able to speak to an automated bot who had no idea how to help me, and refused to connect me to a live person.

Does anyone on here know what I need to do to get a replacement copy of the 48-month extension letter?

Thank you!

How to Move Household Goods from China to the US? (US Citizen Going Home)

Hello everyone,

We are a couple currently living and working in China. I m a Chinese citizen. My husband is a US citizen from Texas. He has worked in China for about 9 years. We ve been together for over 5 years and got married in the US last year when outbound travel from China resumed. My husband finished two master s degrees over the last few years and has finally decided to pursue a doctor s degree back in the US.

While still considering school offers, we have started research on international moving. I ve approached several professional international moving companies and they all provided quotes that seem exorbitant and somewhat opaque. (I ll share more details about our moving needs and the quotes received below.)

So I thought why not try booking a container directly with shipping companies, and my husband should be able to apply for free entry of the household goods as a returning US citizen. I ve checked some articles online and the US Customs and Border Protection s (CBP) website, and learned about the Form 3299 "Declaration For Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles".

Unfortunately, I haven t found any step-by-step guidance on the import process. I d really appreciate it if anyone can shed some light on questions such as:

  • What is the customs clearance process like?
  • When do we need to fill out/submit the form?
  • How will we be notified?
  • How should we list the things shipped in the form? Specifically, the form only has limited rows? Do we describe multiple items in one cell?
  • Part IV involves the carrier. How is their input involved?
  • Are there any other critical things that we should pay attention to?

I have contacted several shipping companies. So far most said they didn t accept non-business customers, but I did find a couple that did. I m waiting for more detailed quotes from them. Is there anyone who has handled international moving this way before? What kind of shipping companies should I look for? Any recommendations?

Thank you

Hi,

I have two different cases.

case 1, I-130 case doesn't have an access code to link to myUSCIS

I filed I-130 for my mother who lived outside of US via mail on 11/23/23, I received I-797 on 12/01/23. When I try to link the case number to my USCIS account it says it belongs to a different USCIS account, then I try to link it with my mom's account, and it asks for an access code, but that I-797 doesn't have one. I spoke with a USCIS agent on 12/15/23, she said the case is not showing up in her system and asked me to wait 30 days after 12/01/23. Now on 01/03/23, it says the case is actively being reviewed, but it still requires an access code to link to my mom's account. I wonder does anyone has such experience?

case 2, no digital receipt notice for 20 days after USCIS received the filing package

I mailed concurrent I130, I485, I131 packages for my father to the Chicago office on 12/14 via USPS, it shows delivered on 12/17. I included G-1145 form, but I haven't received the case acceptance notice till now (01/05). Although it is the end of the year with lots of holidays I wonder if such a long wait time is normal for concurrent filing. And if it still doesn't make any progress what should be the next step?

Thanks for any help.

Pre Interview Checklist

Hello, my partner and I just received our interview date for January 2024. We have been looking over the document requirements and had a few clarifying questions for a few of the documents. Sorry if some of the questions seem dumb or idiotic, we are just stressed that we may accidently forget something and wanted other's opinions/thoughts. Thank you in advance!

For the record, we are getting our information from https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/GUZ-Guangzhou.html#pre_interview_checklist

In terms of affidavits of financial support - some background: we ended up filling out an I-864 for me and my dad (joint sponsor). We also submitted a I-864A for my mom.

1) This means we will need to bring the IRS tax transcript for the 2022 Tax Year for my mom, dad, and I. My mom and dad have the same transcript as they filed jointly. In addition, we will also be bringing the appropriate tax returns/W2s/Schedules/etc in case they need them, but understand that this is extra and may not be needed.

2) Proof of my status and my parents' status in the USA: using passports

3) Proof of domicile of my parent's status and mine in the USA: Bring utility bills, credit card statements, etc <--- is this necessary? Or are tax forms sufficient?

4) On the website, it reads "Affidavit of Support Photocopies: The affidavit of support must account for all applicants on the petition. Each derivative family member needs to bring one (1) photocopy of the principal applicant s affidavit(s) of support. If each applicant has their own individual petition, each affidavit of support must include that applicant s own name."

What does this mean? Is this just indicating the I-864 and I-864A forms, or is it indicating something else?

Also, in one of the emails the NVC sent to us when our case was first created: it said this "Please Note: You must bring the exact original of any scanned document you upload to CEAC that NVC accepts to your immigrant visa interview. Failure to bring the exact original you uploaded to CEAC may delay the processing of your case."

However, in the instructions on the website, it said that photocopies are allowed. Does this mean we need to bring original copies of me and my parents' passports and utility bills? Or are photocopies of those okay?

Lastly, I just wanted to make sure that for the photographs and birth certificates, it is asking for the applicant NOT the petitioner. I do need to take any photographs or bring my birth certificate.

Thank you,

James
