Hi,

Just interested if anyone brought their pet when they immigrated. I brought my dog, from Scotland to the US. The plane ticket for my dog cost more than it did for me, lol. I just wanted to know if anyone else brought their pet or pets with them. Thanks.

I brought my six cats from Canada with me. It was a two day drive including an overnight stay - not a happy time for them at all - and one passed away 6 weeks after our arrival partially caused by the stress of the move. The others are hale and hearty and I wouldn't have left them behind for the world. My now husband knew if he wanted me he had to take the cats as well.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Not into the US (G. didn't have any pets) but we did move cross-country with my two cats last year. Like pink_roses, we flew Delta and kept them under the seat.

Sorry to hear about your cat. It took me two flights to get here. It was over 11 hours in all because there was delays with the planes. My poor dog must of been so scared and probably wondering what was going on. He was a bit shaky when he came out of the transport crate, but thankfully he was fine. He is a Sheltie, but too big to go under the seat in the plane, had to have a special crate made up for him to be transported in.

Well we have two Rottweilers booked as cargo on the same flight as ourselves (just praying that our male rotty makes it because he has cancer) We are flying directly to Sanford from Manchester, to fly into Jacksonville, which is where we will be living, would have meant two flights and I did not want to put the dogs through that, especially with one of them not being 100%. Altogether £1149 which is over two times more than our flights, I got two flights with Thomsonfly for £497 for the two of us which we thought was fantastic and it's a 9.20 take off, so be in Florida by 1.30

Sorry to hear about your dog, I hope everything goes all right with his journey. I paid over 600 GBP to get my dog here, and it was only nearly 400 for myself. Seems to be a lot of money to bring pets, unless they are small and you can have them under the seat in the plane. It's worth it in the end though, I couldn't be without my dog.

Yup, I brought my two cats with me. They were able to come into the cabin with me, in Sherpa bags which went under the seats in front. I think it was $30 per cat. Flew with Delta.
There is a lot of cat lovers out there! :)

I brought my LabradorX , Sophie with me. We used a pet transport company and it cost a small fortune. She had a terrible time. Atlanta messed up and wouldn't put her on the connecting flight to Memphis as they said her crate was too big. Then they couldn't find her documentation which was taped to her crate and wanted to impound her. She arrived after nearly 3 days at 10.30pm in a crate that was too small by ASPCA standards, unable to stand properly or turn around. I don't think I'd have brought her with us if I'd have know what she was going to be subjected to.

I also used a pet transportation service. Got to Manchester airport in England then the guy said we needed to take my dog to the vet. Had to get him checked out and see if he was fit to fly as there was going to be a low temperature at the aiport in America. Had already had him seen by a vet before we left, so that was more money. The transportation guys cancelled the first flight he was supposed to go on. So I had to cancel my own flight and that was non-refundable
