I plan on flying to the UK over the holidays to see my Buxton Babe. Three days after I get back she will arrive for a visit with her daughter. She has been given a letter from her boss and will be carrying certain goverment ID that should help in case she is questioned.

Her trip ws booked and paid for before we read the warnings, hence the letter.

I also plan to go back to the UK in Feb 07 for a Joan Armatrading concert that BB has bought tickets for. I am trying to keep busy while I wait for the NOA2.

Hopefully, proving an ongoing relationship will not be a problem for us.

do you have a petition is progress right now?

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Hopefully we won't have to do this and our petition will come in time, but what should you carry on you if you enter the states while your petition is in progress?

Return tickets, letters from employers/school saying you are still working there, housing agreements in your home country?

Do you think that would be enough or that they will still be skeptical?

As I said, the NON refundable tickets were booked and paid for before we found the warnings. My fiance tried to cancel and was told NO.

Also she has a weeks vacation booked. I recognise the expertise on this board and respect the viewpoints. However I think the risk is worth it for my fiance to find out where I live, work, worshsp, and who my friends are, before she gives up all she has and land here.

When she lands, we would have been 2 months into our KI process, with another 4 to go. I am hoping reasonableness along with all the documentary proof suggested will suffice. If it does not, she would have lost nothing.

I do not know if anyone truly knows the answer....

Return tickets? Who says that you are going to use the return portion?

Letter from employer? You can call from the states and say "I quit"!

IF I were a CBP I would be skeptical but ..... that's me....

Many from the UK have managed a trip to the US during K1 proceedings. I wouldn't stress over it too much. Don't let this board scare you! Unfortunately its the few that have had bad experiences who post, while there are many more who have had no problems whatsoever! Good luck!

Marina + Dave,

An honest looking face and demeanor, and a purpose for the visit that is consistent with a temporary stay after which you will depart.

I was panicking about the same sorts of things because I was desperate to have my British fiance' here for the holidays but found it hard to find anyone to give me straight answers as to whether or not it was okay for him to visit while the K-1 process was going on. I called about five different numbers [a total of about an hour and a half on the phone] to try to find help. The following number is where I finally spoke to someone who gave me answers:

National Visa Service Helpline (202) 663-1225

I believe it's a Washington D.C. number so be prepared for long distance charges! It's sort of a pain, you have to wait through ages and ages worth of menus and long informational recordings, but eventually you'll have the option to speak to a visa specialist directly. They answered all my questions.

They told me that since my fiance is from a country part of the Visa Waiver Program, it should be no problem whatsoever for him to visit here while the petition is being processed. My fiance is here right now, his point of entry was Atlanta. He had no problem in Atlanta, he said he was here to visit his fiance and they didn't even question him about it. Not to say all points of entry are the same, nor officers. I'm just saying in our case, it was fine and he's here now. Having your fiance come with proof of ties back in her own country is always good just in case. Letter from employer, copy of lease, etc.

I'd say call the number and get the info from them directly. I know it eased my mind to hear it from an official place and have that peace of mind.

I hope this was helpful, & good luck!!

Thanks for all the positive feedback. If it was against the law to travel, I would really be worried. But the need for my fiancee to make an informed choice overides any fear of a POE officer having a bad day.

I visited my fiance in the US 2 weeks ago, and i'm waaaay into the visa process (have my consulate interview next week!). I thought K1 bells would ring up the second they scanned my passport at POE, but the officer didn't seem aware of anything (unless she was trying to trick me) cos she asked the usual: what's the purpose of your visit, do you know anyone in Portland, etc. I decided to be honest since it's not like i'm doing anything wrong. I explained my fiance lives in the US and i'm visiting him. She asked where are we planning on living eventually and i explained we've applied for a K1 visa and I told her: i'm sure you know how long these take, so in the meantime we have to go back and forth to be able to see each other. She told me she totally understood and wished me luck. that was it.

I had brought my consulate interview letter with me, just in case, my reasoning is: why would i go and risk screwing everything up by staying ilegally after all the months, effort and money we have put into this process, specially when i'm so close to my interview?

As i said, there's nothing ilegal about it, if you're honest and straight forward, it should be ok.

Completely out of subject. But me and my fiance were hesitating for the last month either if I should visit him or not for christmas time. It was the only way we could see each other because he has kids and of course he has to stay with them for the holidays.

Im from canada, waiting for my packet 4 so we are pretty close to the end.

So reading your posts all just made me decided that I would try to go no matter what. Its worthed to try to spend my first holidays with my love and my future family. The worst thing would be that I'll spend the holidays the way it was supposed to be in the first place...

Thanks all to have helped me open my eyes and take the risk. Im sure its going to be fine with all my papers prooving that I am actually going through the legal way, and with my return flight and my work letter its all good.

Mephys, an happy VJer for christmas time! :goofy:

Ohh M.

You definatly should go. I just got back from visiting my fiance and faxed off my packet 3 on my return. Posed no problem I think it helps to not carry too much stuff to show that you might be planning on staying. Cause like someone said to me at the medical exam that they had bothered her and she was thinking that some people might just decide to move in the process cause it's so long and complicated. But I did go with a letter from work and that I have other ties that I have to be home. I had even flown down on a one way ticket. I think that it does help to show an ongoing relationship by visiting each other during the process. If you didn't for some it could be almost a year that you wouldn't have seen one another.
