PSA: If entering the USA 2 years after marriage, kindly remind the immigration officer of this
When we last entered the US, our immigration officer said "Oh, hmm I wonder if I could go ahead and change you an IR-1."  The agent right next to him said "Yes, you can do that" and he acted surprised. His comments made it pretty clear he was going to erroneously issue us a CR-1 and he seemed to not even know he could change the visa status until his coworker advised him (THANK GOODNESS she overheard!).  I don't know how onerous the process is to correct such an oversight but I'm glad we didn't have to find out!

Just wanted to pass this along in the hopes it saves someone from any problems with the wrong stamp being placed in the passport, as I've read about here before....  I would kindly remind the officer "We married >2 years ago.  We can enter with an IR-1 visa now right?"

Traveled to Canada for 20 days after entering the U.S. on a K-1 visa (June 1–22). Seeking reentry under Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR).
I entered the U.S. on a K-1 visa on June 1st and left for Canada on June 2nd, remaining here for 20 days. I am now attempting to return to the U.S. through Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) using Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR). My K-1 visa is expired, but my I-94 is still valid. Am I ok?

Wrong USCIS application form filed by my lawyer!
Hello, so my wife came in k-1 visa to USA and we got married and all. We filled for work permit and green card together but while doing that my lawyer filed for I-130 no idea why. Will that application make my process for work permit and green card slow? If so how do I withdrawal that application? My lawyer isn’t helpful at all. I need some help…

Seeking advice for Thai/US couple - What US visa path to take?
My gf and I live in Thailand but spend 2-4months in the US per year. Once/if we have children age 5+, the time split would become vice versa. We have no plans to live full-time in the United States in the next 5 years, but I visit my family and friends 2-3x per year for 2-3 weeks at a time. I would love it if she can join me for those trips and experience that part of my life. What options do we have -- US visa wise, maybe a tourist or fiance visa later? Other?

Abandoned AOS and now regret it
Please be nice, I know I made a mistake... But got my K1 approved and arrived in the US June 25, 2024 and applied for AOS February 25, 2025 -- then left the US (abandoned my AOS). Will I be banned for re-entry to the US -- even under a spouse visa?

US Citizen with Foreign Fiancé: When and How to Get Married?
I'm currently living and working in the United States. My fiancé currently lives in Japan. We have been dating for about 6 months, and we have met in person several times, but we are not yet married.
My fiancé will be visiting me in the United States on a tourist visa some time in March or April and staying for about 3 months. I want to file for a fiance/spouse visa asap -- what's next?

I'm filing out the I-765 and I-864 forms for both my husband and my step-daughter. I'm unsure which category to file them under for the I-765.

Is it "a6" "K1 non immigrant Fiance or K2 dependent" or "c9" which it states to apply under if you have a pending application for adjustment of status.

We are in the 90 days now... but *just* as he got here July 16. (I know! but I had school and a ton of stuff to do for it so I'm getting to it now.)

    TIA!

I have a couple of questions to people who already have had this stage recently.

My case was forwarded to the DOS last week.

The DOS timeframes web page shows 3 weeks from receiving to case entered/creation.

Do they email you and mail you the letter with the case number right away when then create the case?

I understand it then takes a week or two for them to forward the case to the embassy/consulate.

Do you also get an email when they forward it? or do you have to then check the status on the status web page?

Can you go into the appointments page as soon as you have the case number and book an appointment? Can you fill the DS-160 online right away after only having the case number? or do you have to wait for the consulate to contact us first?

    Thanks in advance!

Good Day all. I petitioned my daughter when i was still a green card holder. Her PD is April 24,2014. I became US Citizen 6 years ago.

Do i have to inform NVC about my status?

Will that help the status of my daughter to be upgraded and proceed the processing at NVC?

    What is DQ?

When can we receive a welcome Letter from NVC? Just getting confused of all what Im reading here.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    K1 Visa, Financial Requirments?

I wanted to ask about the K1 Visa financial requirements. I am an American citizen who has filed an i129f for my Brazilian fiancee, NOA1 received on march 11th 2025. The problem is that in 2024 I resigned my job and only worked for 3 months that year. In those 3 months I was on track to earn about $48,000 that year (earned about $42,000 in 2023 & $35,000 in 2022). Between march 2024 and May 2025 I was unemployed & was a college student spending my savings in that timeframe.

Since May 2025 I have been working again, still a college student pursuing Engineering. Im on track to make $33,600 working part time right now. In addition, my father sends me $1,200 per month to help with expenses and covers all tuition payments separately from the $1,200 per month. He is trying to help grow my savings account in light of the K1 process, however he refuses to sign the financial support paperwork for my fiancee.

So $14,400 per year from my father + $33,600= $48,000 per year, plus a bright future in an Engineering career. Can anyone comment on how this will be viewed by the immigration officers? Will they consider the $1,200 per month my father sends? Will they consider my career as an Engineer and previous work history as an Aerospace Technician?
