psiprez - I'm sad you've had such difficulties. And I'm afraid I don't have good news for you, either. You've only moved up one spot since the last list. VSC was really cruising for a while... but has slowed down considerably lately. I'm hoping it is just a temporary hitch, and they will be back on track soon...

Lora - EXCELLENT. This time has been soooooo long in coming. Congratulations to you both, and I wish you a speedy and safe journey with your love.

Trinner... what a bummer! I hope you get that birth certificate soon and get that packet back! 2 weeks and 2 days we'll be on that list of yours!! Yes, we are VERY excited!!!

psiprez... did you send in your marriage license with your initial form? (to show proof of legal name change) Just curious because it does seem a bit picky. I'm sure it slowed things up some but you're due! This week! ;)

Lora, I have my fingers and toes crossed for you right now!

So I called uscis on Friday Evening. March 28, 08

I was very clam and nice. The lady I spoke with responded nicely and told me as much as she can.

I asked about what status (see timeline) because it's been over 90 days since my NOA1. She had no idea because she is not the person who files, but she checked on the last process/updates for VSC, and she said they were on September. And the fact she told me it would probably take another 3-4 months for approval. :''(

####### is all I have to say, but I just said thank you.

So I'm not sure how true this respond was from the operator. I hope I get my NOA2 soon as I have tons of plan for summer.

Good luck everyone and have a good April first (coming soon).

Timeline

While most people here get theirs in about 4 months, they "officially" are still processing applications from September. Only when the "official" date has passed will they investigate. You can check the date on the USCIS timeline part of the website.

And from what I've seen, while 4 months is the average here, there appears to be quite a large standard deviation from the average, with some going from NOA1 to NOA2 in a month (at VSC) and others taking much longer than 4 months.

Well, if you look at my timeline you will know what happened.... My fiancé sent them a check that showed his old address in NC (he moved to VA over one and a half years ago), since he'd been using those checks to pay for just about everything else without any problems. Of course, our friends at VSC didn't accept it and sent him back the petition on Friday, March 28. He'd been in touch with them for some time now, because he'd never got the NOA1 even though he knew the check had been cashed.... I just wonder, why did it take them almost two months to realise that? He told me our petition had been looked at, stamped and so on.

I have to admit, I just don't understand what happened. I don't know how long this is going to hold things up, but I know he didn't take action sooner, because he trusted the system. I still don't know if I should have told him it was over between us... He disregarded my advice, and caused me to waste two months, even knowing my situation is not very easy here. I don't really know... Perhaps I should forget all about it, and stay where I am.

Most who file in vermont are not taking 4 months to process anymore. I think the average here on VJ was about 46 days before last week's slow down.

California is still taking several months. What you got was their standard "official" answer...all they can really give you until you're outside of the processing time they post. They'll also tell you that they are processing them in the order they were received. I'm sure it's getting frustrating seeing those before you approved. Can't explain it. Luck of the draw. Your time is coming! :)

Highwaystar... VSC seems to be picky about the address on the check. It is very strange that they cashed it first and then sent the petition back. Did they state that is why they sent it back or was their another reason?

Also, I realize this isn't the place for relationship advice but if what happened is causing you to reconsider your relationship perhaps you should be taking the time to be certain it's truly what you want. Marriage is going to come with a lot bigger bumps than this. ;)

Tanffy --

Please try not to worry too much (I know easier said than done). I also spoke to a very, very nice lady because for some reason I was unable to see my status on line for 3 days. She also told me it could take another 8 weeks or so before I would get my NOA2 (I had called the week before my approval). I was also touched on 2/17 and I was approved last Thursday 3/27. I'll keep you in my prayers...wishing you the best.

....when it hurts to look back and you're scared to look ahead LOOK beside you and I'll be there.....

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore... and who always will.

So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

Thank you so much for your understanding! The thing is, my fiancé is a wonderful man in so many respects, but this time he made a big mistake. I hate being pushy, so I didn't insist on his becoming a VJ member... However, I had to tell him that he left everything in my hands, when there was very little I could do, being the beneficiary and living about 4,000 miles away from him. As for the problem with the check, it seems it was the only thing they had found lacking... As I said, they had stamped everything, which means that probably our NOA2 would have come very soon.

The idea of being stuck in limbo for god knows how long after having almost reached our goal is extremely depressing, especially since I am dealing with a situation at home that is far from ideal. He knew all this, yet he took his own sweet time to contact VSC when NOA1 wasn't showing up, and only did so about two weeks ago. This is what I find it hard to forgive. I am 47 years old, and if something goes wrong in the US I won't have anything to go back to. In Italy it is practically impossible to find a job at my age (and difficult at any other), and even if I have assets, they won't last forever. I do love him, and I know he loves me, but at my age I am also aware that very often love is not enough. I know it was an honest mistake and all that, but the idea of always having to tell him what to do, and repeat it often to boot, is not really very appealing.

I'm with you there! Nobody is perfect but a relationship should be 50/50! Especially for us strong willed Italian ladies! ;) I hope you are able to discuss this with him and can find a resolution that puts you more at peace with your decision.
