I had the lower two pulled, because they were impacted, and had broken through the gum, causing a pocket where food was collecting and causing infections and pain.

Did it under local anesthesia. The anesthesia was strong enough that it was no more painful than getting a filling. Probably less so. I followed the instructions about keeping ice on the cheeks and avoiding jaw movements after the surgery. As the anesthesia wore off, I took one pain pill before going to sleep. The next morning, there was virtually no more pain (at least, as long as I didn't move my jaw), and I never took another pain pill. By two days after the surgery, the pain was less than the aching that I had been constantly experiencing before the surgery.

By far the worst part was the anticipation, and hearing everyone's stories. The reality wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined.

Wisdom teeth and pulling of them have always been a bit of enigma to me....where are they and what do they look like? Why don't I have any?and does that make me a lesser person??

Same here

They are just normal teeth, Welshie! I have all 4 of them (the last one erupted

quite recently.)

I don't see any reason to extract them, unless they are infected for some reason.

I think they tend to get infected more than other teeth because brushing/flossing

them is more difficult (but not impossible.)

My advice is that you should NEVER get on a plane within a week of surgery. Or you might end up with some severe dry socket. October 2006 was not my favorite month. :(

I had 2 pulled when I was 29 and the other 2 pulled at 31. Both times were with novacaine and I went back to work. I was a little sore but had absolutely no problems at all.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I had all of mine done at once. I was awake through the whole thing and one of them had to be cut out because it hadn't broken through yet and was acrually pushing up on the tooth beside it. I did have the happy gas though. What I wouldn't do to have that stuff at home! Anyhow, I had no problems, but I did bleed a lot. I did take the pain pills but mostly because I love Hydrocodone. That stuff almost makes having a toothache worth it.

I had the lower ones taken care when I was 22 I think (I kept postponing and it ruined my teeth. I should've listened to my dentist when I was a teenager and taken care of them back then). No drugs, no nothing and it hurt like hell.

Then the upper ones was this year here and it hurt way less (but he used that gas on me)

All mine were removed about 10 years ago as they were all impacted. Had it done in hospital under general anaesthetic so don't remember anything about it. I know they had to dislocate my jaw to deal with the lower two and I couldn't eat or talk for a week afterwards... not sure which was harder for me, hehe! Had a sore mouth for quite some time afterwards but was VERY relieved to have them taken out.

I'm very excited to announce that my wisdom teeth grew in straight and they're all the way in so I don't have to have the IV sedation. I've had it before and it made me really sick so I didn't want to be throwing up after having teeth pulled. Now I'm not even worried about it anymore. YAY!
