They're only teens!

Those wacky teens :jest:

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

religion of peace...... blah blah...... yeah... right

Timothy McVeigh claimed to be a Christian.

...and Christians have caused more pain, suffering, and death in the world than anyone.

M_____s are taking a shot at the record on a daily basis. Yawn. How are those blinders fitting? Christianity matured and the killing stopped. While I___m chose never to stop and remain in the middle ages. Not all M_____s. But their religion is being hi-jacked by extremists and the moderates are only angry at the people calling out the terrorists. Crazy world.

I don't think this is correct. Moderate denunciations happen, but they're not reported in the mainstream press. (Makes sense. Doesn't sell papers to talk about pleasant, even-minded university panels.) Wahhabism is a serious problem, but there are a billion Muslims worldwide. If it were all of Islam, we'd already be screwed.

Anyhow, this story looks to be a classic ghetto + drugs = bad.

Agreed - also only a portion of them are even Muslim, a lot of them are from former French colonies in West Africa which are not Muslim. The issue is economics, unemployment and a society that sees them as outcasts and not really "French". It's not neccesarily even a lack of jobs it's that the "French" won't hire them if they're name isn't "French" enough. Hmm Jim Crow anyone.....??

That was my understanding also.

Of course its not as though there aren't areas in the US where this sort of thing happens - parts of Newark, Jersey City, Irvington out here in NJ, not to mention that downtown LA (we used to live near Pasadena) is pretty dodgy at night; and that's before you get to the real ghettos in South Central....

I think that many of you are not understanding the situation. A lot of these kids are not even immigrants, their parents or their grandparents were the immigrants, they speak French as a first language and have never lived in their native countries. Many of their parents were brought to France by the French either through the military or other industrial endeavors post WW2. So it's not like they "chose" to live there. The French brought them there and now they won't employ them and expect them to sit back, be happy that the government and French people treat them like ######? No I'm sorry I think any one of you would be rioting as well. And again let me point out they are not all Muslims, they are Christians or have traditional African beliefs, and the issue of religion has been brought into this not by them but by outsiders looking to attach a label.

Their parents didn't "choose" to be there, but were brought against their will and were given NO rights. This applies to their children as well. Imagine being born in a country, it is all you know, you are a native speaker of the language, but you are not allowed to be a part of the country and are denied the rights of citizenship. Essentially you have no country. And let me tell you, it is REALLY hard to get a job there without citizenship... even with the proper papers. The French protect their rights and the privilages of citizenship fiercely.

I agree some of them were brought there but there was plenty of immigration to France and Germany especially, that while they may have been encouraged by the governement many of them did go at one point on false pretenses of a better life with the help of the government.

Huh?

Who brought their parents against their will?

How exactly are they denied the rights of citizenship?

####### are you on about?

My thoughts exactly.

I saw an article in the news a while back that the French government was proposing to "pay" these people to repatriate back to their countries of origin. If true, that doesn't sound like they are being held in France against their will.

The truth is probably closer that they wouldn't return "home", even if they got paid to go.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

What generation descendant of an immigrant do you have to be before the country of your ancestors is no longer your 'home'?

A great way to create outrage though. "How dare they complain, we offered them money to go 'home' and they wouldn't take it!"

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

exactly. many of the 'immigrants' being referred to are second and even third generation French born, some of whom have never even visited their "home"country, so why would they go back there??
