For those of you who are pondering the possibility of having your foreign fiance visiting you in the U.S. with a tourist visa while the K-1 is still in process, I wanted to share my successful experience with you.

I attended the interview today, I had planned to be completely honest about our K-1 process, and brought a copy of the I-129F package and our NOA2, I was very nervous as I thought they were going to ask me a lot of questions... I waited in line 1.5 hours and the interview lasted less than 1 minute! LOL They asked about my previous visits and how long have I stayed in the U.S. before, and that was it! The guy said "Your visa has been approved"! They did not look at any of the documents I brought he just checked my old passport and my old visa.

The outcome could be different for those foreign fiances who are applying for a tourist visa for the first time, but there is also another VJer whose fiance got a tourist visa approved for the first time while the K-1 was still in process. I just wanted to let you all know that it is worth to give it a try!

I am extremely happy that we'll be able to spend Christmas together!

Congratulations. I know how wonderful it is to spend the holidays with the person you love.

I hope that the CBP agent at the POE doesn't cancel it.

Congratulations. It's far easier to get a second visa after previous legal entry and exit from the US.

Congratulations! I am happy for you but shocked, b/c we were told that this is rarely done. My (now) husband, then my fiance' applied for a B-2 back in Sept and was denied he was honest and explained how we were waiting to be approved for the K1. The woman that he interviewed with denied the B2 on the grounds that he was "an intending immigrant" meaning that he had intentent to stay in the US, (well duh! that's why we applied for the K1 in the first place) anyway, the interview lasted a matter of 5 minutes and we were so disappointed in the end at the result. What puzzled us the most was that he lived here in the US before for 5 yrs on a student visa and went back willingly 2 times, so we thought they would see him as a minimal risk of not returning. Unfortunately, she didnt see it that way, so I guess it all depends on the interviewer and the mood that he/she is in. Also, just an FYI our lawyer informed us that you can be denied at port of entry even though you have the B2 visa from the consolate. But if I were you I'd take my chance to spend my Christmas with my sweetheart to!

Good luck! Keep us posted.

That's great news and I'm glad you can spend the holiday together!

I do think it depends on what Consulate/Embassy you're requesting a visa from though. But great news that yours does!

Semi_Elh, I was hesitant whether to try it or not.. but I'm glad I did.

And yes, I'm aware of the possibility of being turned back at the POE. Actually every time I've entered the States in the past, that has always been a possibility, that is the risk every visa holder has, and now the risk of being turned back at the POE is probably even higher due to our K-1 application.

I'm staying positive, I got my flight booked already and I'm leaving on the 20th. I'm going to be honest with them and hopefully everything will be just fine, I'll keep you all posted when I come back home in January.

Thank you Jessie :) Thank you for all your good wishes and mostly for your assesment during my tourist visa application! It was relly helpful.

I've been wanting to ask you about your fiance's experience at the POE when she visited you with her B-2? How did it go for her? Which was her POE? Mine will be Houston.

All I really know is that the POE was painless. I will ask my fiancee for more details tonight and post it here (along with a POE review here on VJ).

The officer at the port of entry asked her the purpose of the trip (she told him it was to visit a fiancée), who she was staying with, and where. Didn't ask to see any documentation at all, but noted my name. That was it.

Easy peasy...

And by the way, her PoE was Houston as well. (Continental seems to have the best service to Central/Latin America and the Caribbean, and it seems all their flights pass through there)
