haha, since today is the deadline we were wondering if we have to file jointly...I (non USC) didnt work in 2005...any suggestions?? we tried efiling but it got rejected...they say that my DOB didnt match their records??

met on Hawaii in 2002

got engaged Dec. 19 2004 in Amsterdam

married Sep 15 2005 on Mackinaw Island, MI

10/19/2005 NOA1s for AOS and EAD

11/17/2005 fingerprints for EAD and AOS

12/20/2005 EAD approved!!!

03/23/2006 AOS interview in Detroit, MI...APPROVED!!

01/10/2008 I-751 send to NSC

01/14/2008 I-751 arrived at NSC

01/18/2008 check cleared

01/22/2008 recieved NOA1 dated 01/14 case got transfered to CSC

02/12/2008 biometric appointment

03/07/2008 APPROVED!!!

Still file jointly. You were married before 12/31/2005 right? But just file manually. Are you using turbotax?

I used turbotax.com and it worked great.

You can still efile, you will just sign the signature form manually. Definitely file jointly you will get a tax break as a married couple since you did not work.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

Unless your some rich family, with large incomes on both sides.. it's usually more beneficially to do it married filing jointly.

The standard deductions for jointly is the same if you add them together for two returns filing seperately.

Now if your doing an itemized return, or like I said... make alot where the combined incomes could push you both into a higher tax bracket, then filing seperately may be more beneficial.

I do taxes for friends and co workers, and those that are married with dual income (if only one person is working, just go with jointly) I do both ways on the computer to see which is cheaper. Everytime but once, doing it jointly was better. The one time it wasn't, they would of gotten 10.00 more back doing it seperately... but they'd would of had to pay the e-filing fee twice.. which was more then what they would of gained.

Aug 1 to Aug 7, 2005 - Fifth US Visit - Engaged

Dec 27, 2005 - NOA1 Rcv'd in Mail

Mar 10, 2006 - NOA2 Approved

Mar 23, 2006 - NVC Received Packet

Mar 24, 2006 - Case Forwarded to London Embassy

Apr 7, 2006 - Recieved Packet 3

May 11, 2006 - Packet 3 Sent Back

May 24, 2006 - Medical Appointment

May 24, 2006 - Packet 4 Received

Jun 14, 2006 - Interview - APPROVED!!!!!!!

Jun 16, 2006 - Visa Recieved

We did joint and got a ton of money back. Well, not really, the check never did get here so now it is the old 3911 form and more waiting :angry:
