So, here in sunny FL, folks started camping out in front of the Best Buy at 2:00am this morning. They had lines of tents and bbq grills around the stores all day today already. This is getting more nuts every year. As for me, you won't see me near any shopping venue this weekend.

That is insane.

I went to my first ever Black Fri sale with the hubby last year. I was so excited about it the night before that I went to bed in my jeans and sweater, and placed my sneakers + socks next to the bed. It was one more new thing to do in my life in America. Hubby's family was tickled by my excitement. I just couldn't stop talking about it during Thanksgiving dinner the night before.

The excitement lasted for about 3.5 mins while we were standing in 30-deg weather at 4:30 am outside Best Buy.

When we got home at 7am after getting the TV we wanted, I told the hubby: "No more, hon. No more."

We talked about that experience earlier this evening. I told him I'd much rather save money over a 6-month period to buy something we like at the regular price than freeze our butts and put up with maniacal shoppers who previously resembled human beings.

Haven't seen a Black Friday for some time.

I did have plans to shop for Laura Secord (in Windsor), but that trip--and its "collateral" attempt to "brazen through" with my US passport--has been cancelled (we'll only be going to Novi, on US side).

1 guy called into one of the talk shows I listen to and gave a few good suggestions on how to beat the "black" friday line ups! He stated most stores publish early whats going to be on sale on friday! He purchases the item at regular price prior to Friday, then goes back after the sale and gets refunded the difference in price, as most stores give a 30 day gaurentee on the price. Anytime within 30 days it goes on sale for a lower price, you can go in with a receipt and get the difference back. OR you just take it back and ask for ur $$ back or ask them to give you the black friday price, and most of the times they will. I'm not saying that is ethical, just passing it on.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
