I always have a hard time tipping. Since I'm brazilian and we don't usually tip in Brazil, could you guys share how much is appropriate?

For example, for a hair cut? Or if I sit and have breakfast at a cafe. Should I tip my tattoo artist? At the grocery store in that 20 items express line for the person bagging?

Restaurant, if being served, 15%. If buffet, $1-2. I don't tip at self-serve places like Starbucks and McDonalds.

Haircut, depends on service. I pay $5 on a $15 bill because I've been going to the same person for years and she does my hair right.

I don't tip anyone at the grocery store.

Hotel rooms, $10 per bed per night.

I tip $5 for my hair cut.

We just tipped $10 for Andre's tattoo. It was a small one. I would tip $20 for a more detailed one.

I don't tip anyone at the grocery store.

I tip at leat 20% on all food.

For hair stuff-if it's a separate shampoo girl I give her a couple $$ and the person actually doing my hair gets about 20% of the total cost.

For restaurant-15-20% (depending on level of service, but never below 15%)...for any meal.

For grocery-in normal grocery stores I don't really see a lot of baggers but they get hourly pay anyway...in Mexico it was customary to tip the bagger, and I recently learned that at the commissary (sp.) the baggers are not paid by the hour, so have them load your groceries in the car as well and then give them like 5 bucks.

Tip your tattoo guy...for obvious reasons.

I tip 15-25% depending on how good the service is at a restaurant. And sometimes more if I am blown away by the service (not very often).

If it's a buffet they really only bring you your drinks and that's it so I give them like $.50 - $1 per person at the table.

Depending on what I have done to my hair I give $5-15 in tip.

$3-4 for a pedicure or manicure.

$2 for eyebrow wax

Breakfast at a cafe I would do 15%

Never had a tattoo so I don't know what to tip if any?

I have only ever tipped a person at the grocery store like $1 if they bring out my shopping and help me load it in the car

If you need help how much to tip there is an easy tip calculator on most cell phones these days and it can help you come up with how much to leave based on the bill and percentage you want to leave

Here in CA where the sales tax is fairly high (to me it is), I double it to get the tip amount and usually end up tipping somewhere from 16-18% and oftentimes 25%, depending on which county/city I am in. Though I end up tipping extra $$ for excellent service.

I don't know if that's generous enough.

Good to know. I didn't tip my tattoo guy, but he didn't finish my tattoo. Next time I guess i'll tip him then. I already paid 250 and he told me to bring another 200. How much should I tip?

Restaurants - 20%, unless really bad. If you've ordered something from a counter and taken it to the table of a cafe yourself, no I wouldn't tip. I wouldn't tip at a buffet.

Cabs - couple of bucks

Hair care services (or any beauty-related services really) - 20% & $5 to the shampoo person.

Grocery store bagger - never.... most of the time I bag my own anyway since they never have enough baggers to be at each checker

I'd probably tip a tattoo artist if I had a tattoo.

$100

Really? I would have said $50. But maybe if this is your first time with him the extra $$ might be a good way to establish a good...whatever you would call that with him. Always good when the bartender/tattoo guy/etc. likes you!

20% on wait-service, a little less for cocktail waitress. Bartender, a dollar on a $4 OR $5 beer...

I have a question while we're on the topic. Our catsitter for thanksgiving charged 175. We gave her 200 in order to tip. Do we tip less? She called my voicemail and was like "what should i do with the extra 20?) Haven't called back yet...
