OK, so me thinkssss on getting a fun part time gig as a barista, right? Being that Seattle is coffee land and all. Well, I almost applied at this Chicka LAtte place (the salary was almost as much as that of an Associate Professor darnit)... and then.....

Chicka latte, a new North Seattle coffee shop that features cute baristas in skimpy costumes, opened bright and early this morning at 6 a.m. We were there at 6:15 a.m. with a camera and a craving for caffeine.

The promotion began a couple of blocks from the shop's location at 10000 Holman Road N.W. "What is Chicka Latte?" asked a sign along the street. "Who is Chicka Latte?" Then, on the left, balloons marked the spot that's spawned its share of local controversy.

Co-owners Darin Benofsky and Jay Fortgang sat at the tables a few feet from where three baristas -- one dressed as a pirate, another as a firefighter and a third as a sailor -- served coffee to curious customers. While we were there, all but one were men.

P-I columnist Susan Paynter mused on the coffee shop's sexy gimmick in a column this week.

We spoke with the owners, ordered a "Bettie Page" from the baristas and asked the one female customer what she thought of the whole thing. Check out the video.

Frankly, I wasn't offended. Sure, the firefighter's shorts go about as high as they possibly can, but otherwise the costumes showed as much booty as the outfits you'd see at a bar on a Friday night. Would you go out of your way to see them?

How about that, eh???? As it turns out chicka latte is NOT the only place of its classy kind around here.... my father in law seemed intrigued LMAO

And here I am all excited because I am all about latte-art and shite.... hmmmm. I think this is a new kind of artistic expression LOL

Besides, having once or twice burnt my pretty arms with steamed milk while working @ Second Cup; the idea of having burns godknowswhere is NOT, repeat NOT appealing
