Just a question about the medical exam...I dont have an interview date yet (Surprise ...surprise). But can I still get my medical exam done before hand or do I have to wait till I have an interview date? I thought they were supposed to mail me something about the medical once the date is set and I was supposed to take that in to the medical exam. Not sure. Can someone provide some info?

I second that, after all who else would read my puerile attempts at humour. Just to add to what LeprechaunSean and Malrothien have already posted, the medical is good for one year before the date of interview. Sometimes consular staff will give you grief if your case isn't approved before the year is up, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule. When your interview date is set you will receive an internet link that will have a list of approved physicians and other info. Usually you will be required to take the interview letter to the medical but sometimes they will just take your case number but the Consulate is cracking down on this practice. My parents haven't done this for almost two years and some of this info may have changed. Get all your shots through your doctor in Canada. In Ontario, OHIP covers the tests etc. If you go to the website of the CDC you will find out what what is required since they set the standard for the USCIS. You can also look at panelphysicians.com but his info is taken from the CDC and he makes a killing (as they all do) from being a panel physician. Get as many vaccinations, tests, etc. done through your healthcare provider since costs of using the panel physicians are not covered by provincial healthcare. X-rays are included in the cost of the exam and expected to be treated rather poorly, sometimes the staff is nice but don't bet on it. Mom and Pop were OK only because my older brother went along and when the mean, bitchy nurse started acting up he gave her his card. It's amazing how they treat you with those two little letters after your name. The examining doctor went to the same Medical School as bro' so things went smoothly.

Stress or not, there's no excuse at all to treat people like that. The immigration procedures makes one think that you're a cow being led to slaughter in my view, but this cow can talk back. It's better to bite one's tongue during this whole procedure, especially at the consulate, but if any nurse treats me in any way other than a human being I will call them out on it (diplomatically, of course).

I got along great with the border patrol officer that interviewed me for my Nexus card -- he actually said I had a lot of ####### lol I have a pretty disarming personality (I'm not entirely sure if there's a pun in there haha), so I think I won't have any problems with any mean nurses. I live in rural Ontario -- mean nurses are all we have anyways.

I know! That's one or two days less than 5 months if you convert it over. I'm going to try to get as much prepared as possible tonight and tomorrow. I know Montreal a bit, so I'll check to see if I can get a room across the street from the consulate. If not, there's plenty within walking distance.

I hope so! I've already booked my room downtown Montreal at one of the nicer places around the corner from the consulate. First place I'm going once I check in is to one of the St-Huberts that's around there -- man I haven't had St-Huberts for years... well NAMED St-Huberts at least (Swiss Chalet lol). Memories of high school and going to this one St-Huberts on Ste. Catherine Street right before close coming back.

I asked my lawyer to give them a call to see why some people got their appointments ahead of mine (I was actually asking for the benefit of everyone here because I believe if you do it all online it goes faster), and then they told me the great news! They also said that there wasn't any particular reason why some people who had their cases completed sooner got interviews ahead of those who wait.
