Interview at US Embassy London

I arrived at 7.30am for an 8.00am interview. I had to queue for about 30 minutes and go through the whole security rigmarole. Got into the Embassy at 8.00 and took a ticket from the bloke on the desk just inside the door.

Went and sat upstairs in the waiting area - it's just like an airport gate but with bank teller-style windows down one side.

I waited about 40 minutes then got called to window 1 - The Famous Chinese Woman! She took my docs and scanned my fingerprints and chatted through it all the way. Went round the corner to window 12 to pay then took my receipt back to The Famous Chinese Woman.

Sat and waited for another half hour or so and had a cup of coffee and chatted to a Cockney bloke behind me who was waiting on a spouse visa. Finally got called up to window 15. This was an older American woman who was very nice and friendly. Held up my right hand and swore to tell the truth then she asked me:

- How did you meet your fiancee?

- When did you meet her in person for the first time?

- Has she ever been to England?

She made a couple of light-hearted comments and then informed me that barring anything nasty coming back on my fingerprints that I had been approved.

Went round to the courier desk to pay them then I was back on the street by 10.00. Legged it back to Euston and caught the first train back to civilisiation (ie The North of England).

Flight booked for 8th November so I'm crossing my fingers that the visa arrives in time. :D :D :D

They didnt ask for any of that stuff.

They asked for an Affadavit of Support from my fiancee......she's in college and works part time so earns way below the poverty line so I had prepared a simple list on a sheet of paper showing the amount of cash I have in the bank and the profit that I will be making on the sale of my house and they were satisfied with that (in fact they didnt even ask to see proof of my assets, the list I gave them was enough. I was, of course, armed to the gums with proof just in case).
