What's the lesson for illegal immigrants?

What is your problem?

With such a question it becomes quite obvious that you have many more lessons to learn.

Just for argument sake: why do you take something as above and try to turn it into ###### and an illegal immigrant issue.

I have a good reason for being as I am what is yours.

Snopes is your friend :P

As I suspected, the Mrs. Nat King Cole story is a fabrication:

To me, it's really not important if it was Mrs Nat King Cole, or Donald Trump, or George Bush.

To me it's not important at all if these stories are true, and I don't really care if the guy who helped was rewarded with tons of money, or a simple bouquet of flowers...

what matters to me is that there are regular people out there who are more than willing to help others without selfish motivations, who are not driven by egoistic motives when they have to decide whether to help somebody or not.

It is so easy to look away when something bad happens, and so easy to ignore the fact that other people are human beings with their own little problems, fears, hopes...., right?

Being an airline employee I meet hundreds of people every freakin' day.

I've seen the most obnoxious persons one can imagine, persons who treat other human beings like pieces of worthless dirt, without the slightest bit of regret afterwards.

And I've learned to stay away from them as far as I can...not because I'm afraid of them. But because people like that have the miraculous power to make you feel miserable as hell, which makes you feel bitter and aggressive, which then makes you be unkind and loveless in your own actions.

It can be like a vicious circle, and I don't want to be a part of that .

But on the other side I've met people, total strangers, who have touched me deeply, just by having a brief encounter with them.

I've met people who were deeply grateful for something I did for them, and these were mostly things which were not special at all.

Sometimes they were grateful for something as simple as listening to them.

I've seen people who were swept off their feet just because I remembered their names.

I've met strangers who approached me out of the blue with kind words, saying something nice without any hidden thoughts, and I can't even start to describe how much something like that can brighten up your day,

and fill it with the deep faith that the world and its creatures is just a miracle....

I'm grateful that I can play a beautiful part in this wonder we have been given.....as it is something we can choose to do.

I love your post, Ron/Sharon....thanks for sharing! :)

Wow!

In the past, I would have been tempted to engage you in frivolous dialog. However, one of my lessons learned on VJ is to avoid arguments with folks who pick them for no apparent reason. I'm not falling for this one...

Cheers!!!

Often on VJ it can be difficult to get a warm and fuzzy feeling from people. Thank you Ron/Sharon for reminding me that there are people who are thoughtful. Your original post was a wonderful read and a reminder to us all that a little thought and kindness goes a long way.

If these things aren't important, then why is there the need to fabricate stories about famous people to make the point? Wouldn't it be just as valid, if not more so, without the lie?

There are not five lessons here. There is but one, which is to do the right thing. All of the time, even if no one would notice otherwise.

It is called integrity, and we should not need stupid stories on the internet to remind us of this.

Allegory has been around long before the internet. I wouldn't dismiss its importance on how it expresses Truth.

Yup. Jesus uses lots of allegory/parables in the New Testament. The difference is the parables don't point to a specific person or place (like Mrs. Nat King Cole in Alabama) but instead to unnamed people, places and times (like the king, the peasant and the boulder). I think the stories have more value this way. When real people are used in the story, the message is still there, but the named person is elevated to a superhero status they may not deserve, which can detract from the real message, and folks who like historical accuracy (whatever that means) can feel irritated and deceived.

That said, although most of these stories can be "snopesed" away, I still kinda like 'em.

A lot of those stories morph from the original. The original may have not used anyone's name but were later added to imply validity, which is too bad because it has the opposite effect. :)
