Ellen DeGeneres breaks down over dog she adopted taken away from her by shelter

The matter should have been handled privately instead of her making a big scene on her show. In my opinion, it was to draw attention & sympathy. So, I guess the big crying/ drama thing was a success. She seemed to have garnered sympathy from fans, which is exactly what she was aiming for.

It's a tough situation, but I don't think Ellen should have so publicy and emotionally faulted the organization for following its own stated policies. Ellen clearly had what she thought were (and what might indeed be) the best interests of the dog at heart, but she really should have been aware that after she adopted the dog, she couldn't simply give him away to a family of her choosing because he turned out not to be a good fit with her other pets. Many pet organizations have these types of rules.

I read in some news report that it was Ellen's partner who actually signed the papers, but no matter. It is a sad story, and I'm sure that the girls were great with the dog. Ellen simply didn't follow the rules of the organization. If she wished to plead with them to make an exception, or perhaps have a representative come observe the family with the dog, she should have done so privately. I like Ellen, but I think she's made a huge error in judgment here. Mutts and Moms is going to be dealing with the fallout from this for a long, long time.

My opinion....she was very very upset about this...and I am sure that we all have experienced where your emotions take over you....when your mind feels alot of guilt and your very upset...sometimes your emotion's take over...and you can't pretend everything is beautiful.

Why would she intentionally break down and cry on a show that is seen around the world???? She is very sincere.....she is very very upset about this...she LOVES animals...she admit's it was her fault....nobody is perfect and I am sure all of us had mistakes. She gave the puppy to a CLOSE friend, almost like family...not a complete stranger....and she INVESTED $$$ trying to get the puppy to get along w/ cats. I think overall....she wanted the best for the puppy and the best for her cats....I honestly thought it would be a win/win situation.

To Blessed to be stressed:) I realize that all things have a purpose and a time.....have faith and the Lord Almighty will provide... when the time is right, he NEVER fails!

Cats and dogs dont mix. What the hec was she thinking? She wasnt! So what does she do? Adopts it anyway, in hopes that it will work out. When that failed, she shucks the dog off to someone else. Then comes on her show and spews all this, "I'm a victim #######" Its her dayum fault not the shelter. All of her behavior is very selfish!

I get it - so out of spite, they put the dog in a kennel (NOT in a loving home) just to teach the 'Ellens of the world' a lesson! Makes sense.

I have a cat and a dog and they "mix" just fine. Sometimes there are problems with animals getting along, but you will never know if you don't give things a try. She ended up finding a loving home for the dog. I seriously don't see that as being selfish.

We have 2 cats and a dog, and they get along great!! Throughout my life we have always had at least 2 cats, sometimes more and a dog, with not a problem!!

One should read the contract before they sign it! Simple as that, BUT rules can be bent, and she did find a good home for the dog, one would think that should matter the most.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I gott two dogs and a cat too. I should have wrote typically, I guess. She knew the dog didnt get along with her cats, thats why she took the dog for training. When that didnt work she gave the dog away.

Alleged Ellen Dognapper Files Police Report

Posted Oct 17th 2007 1:26PM by TMZ Staff

Marina Baktis, the dog rescue woman at the center of the Ellen DeGeneres scandal, filed a police report yesterday because she is being harassed for her role in the ordeal.

Baktis, along with business partner Vanessa Chekroun, runs the Mutts and Moms agency from which Ellen DeGeneres adopted her dog. She told "Access Hollywood" yesterday that they've begun receiving death threats. "My life is being threatened, this is horrible. I rescue dogs. I can't believe this."

I don't think too many people are questioning her sincerity. I do agree that she was clearly upset by what transpired, and she did admit that she made a mistake in signing that document without reading it. Her grief certainly appears genuine. But that's not at issue here. The fact is, she violated the stated policy of Mutts & Moms, and by its stated criteria, the girls were too young to constitute an appropriate family for the dog. Maybe this is ridiculous, but it's their policy.

That Ellen gave the dog to a close friend is irrelevant. She was supposed to return him to the organization.

All of us make mistakes, but most of us don't have the opportunity to plead our case on (inter)national TV. In tearfully begging the organization to make an exception, she is tacitly criticizing their policy. She must have known that once that segment ran, Mutts & Moms would be overrun with media publicity and inundated with letters, calls, and e-mails. Their Web site has been temporarily shut down. They've received death threats. That's why I think she showed poor judgment in publicizing this.

It does sound like Iggy would have a good home with the hairstylist's family, but that's not for us to decide. I do hope that Mutts & Moms considers this an option, perhaps by visiting with the family and watching them interact with Iggy. But I think that Ellen has lessened the chance of this happening by using what is essentially a strongarm tactic. Personally, I think that the "14 or older" rule is bit much, but that's what it is.

I really don't think it's out of spite. These are people who rescue dogs for a living. They have their rules, and they want to apply them consistently.

I actually watched the show yesterday and I have no doubt that Ellen was sincere. I think she was also very angry at herself for not reading the contract properly too. I genuinely think she wasn't doing it for attention seeking but because she couldn't hold it in and pretend to be happy at that point in time. *shrugs*

She also never mentioned the name of the organisation on the programme, all she did was just beg them to give the dog back.
