MK: Is that the Dome of the Rock or another mosque in your sig photo?

Yes it is

i had heard about it some time ago, and then when I started reading the Left Behind Series, there is mention of it several times. I asked Omar about it but he doesn't seem to understand what I am talking about in English. Any hints in arabic or further info on it? I understand it to be one of the most sacred places for Muslims, located where a Jewish Temple once stood.

if it keeps raining i'm gonna have to build an ark! :ranting:

I've got some spare wood if you need it. :P

i think brnid built one a few months ago, i'll just borrow hers :P

Since she's leaving town soon I'm sure she won't mind.

what is the significance of the red and white checkered cloth that the men wear on their heads? When I was in the airport in Cairo there were a ton of people going to Saudi and all the men wore these. (I don't know what they're called).

It's called a keffiyeh in Palestine, also ghutra or shmagh (spellings vary.) It's simply the traditional head-cloth worn by men throughout the region, including the Gulf. The red-and-white checked version (like in my current siggy) is especially popular in Jordan, but it is very common in Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon and Saudia as well.

Yasser Arafat made the black-and-white checked one into a recognizable trademark, so this style is often associated with Palestine -- even though it is also worn in other countries. There is also an all-white version that is very popular in the Gulf countries.

Tell him its the Masjid Qubbat As-Sakhrah or the place there the Prophet ascended into heaven from for one night. He will know that story- when the Prophet visited Heaven.

Also nowadays, its rare to see a Palistianian wearing a red/white scarf since it has become so heavily associated with Jordan. Its not uncommon at Soccer games to see one side of the stadium wearing red/white scarves and the other side wearing black/white scarves.

At our wedding reception, my husband busted out with a red/white scarf and started dancing with it and wearing it around his shoulders. It was a big hit!

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

Actually, it's not rare at all to see the red-and-white ones in Palestine -- they're quite common. Had 4 of them at my wedding :P

You wouldnt find that in Jordan at all! More rivalry there I guess.

Maybe.

But you'll see Palestinians rocking all 3 styles, often interchangeably -- the well-known black-and-white, the red-and-white, and the classic white.

omg I can barely stay awake at my desk.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

1 1/2 more hours and I can go home and sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Will post pics tommorrow inshallah, right now it is all I can do to stay awake to drive home. Coffee injections would not help what I am feeling.

already planning my next trip ;)

I'm seriously a zombie at this point. My eyes wanna shut but I have to stay awake until supper is done at least. Most of today is a total blur. I walked around (we don't get to sit all day except at lunch) with that "i need to sleep" warm half-drunk feeling allllll dayyyyyyyyy. I'm sure I'll look back on it as a very "constructive" experience. I can't wait to see what ur boss says about our new items Jaklen. I really hope he likes them !! I'm making that dutch apple pie 2nite that I bought when we went out!! I can't wait!! That vanilla ice cream should make it perfect! *drool* I can't wait to roll my butt into bed!

If anyone else wants to come visit...I now have a midnight curfew on work nights!! :lol:lol!!!

(but my door is always open)

Wow, Amal! I like your new kitten avatar.

I have a new crush...... Move over Rock!!

His name is Travis McCoy, he's funny, talented, and tall!!! He is in the group GYM CLASS HEROES.

Sorry if this is old news. I am in Egypt, for Pete's sake! But, he is adorable! He reminds me of my old crush, Method Man. And their songs are fun & cute. I love their videos on Youtube.

If you like the Roots or Fall Out Boys or Gwen Stefani, you will like them. It's a hip hop band but with live instruments & drums. AWESOME!!

2 cute videos for you all to check out if you want to

I am tempted to let Mina's hair grow out (he's always saying he wants to grow it longer)....so he can have Travis's curly look.....
