Nebraska Processing timeline

Hi everyone,

I am really confuzed about the processing timelines. After over a month, Nebraska updated its page yesterday.. but for only 2 weeks, from Dec 21 to Jan 7!

We received our NOA1 on Feb 22nd so given this pace, that would mean that we can expect our NOA2 in about 3 months? On the other hand, visa journey gives an average of 70 days from filing to NOA2 (link below) and I noticed that some people that filed past the date given online, already received their NOA2..

this is really confuzing and frustrating, we can't plan anything.. I need to give one month notice at work so I would love to at least have some kind of idea. does anyone know how this really work and what timeframe to expect?

The VJ timelines are only as accurate as what the members put in their timelines and update them. The nebraska timeline is also an estimate, it is wierd but some cases get approved alot sooner, maybe the file is put ontop of an officer's pile of work and is dealt with first. All in all there is no absolute guarantee when it will be approved I guess all we can do is wait. In my opinion I dont think it is wise to give in your notice at work until you have the visa in hand.

It is true you can not fully believe the USCIS dates. Jan 7 is likely used because they have a few that go back to that date and/or they want a cushion for extra time before people call and complain.

Also, Nebraska is slowing down. California has sped up a little bit. If you look over the yearly or year to year statistics this is common. It is hard to predict. Perhaps in July California will be processing in 3 weeks and Nebraska will be taking 16 weeks. IT HAPPENS and its not un-precidented. I know how you feel, but all we can do is hunker down and go through the wait :(

Having said that I will give you my best guess as to your actual approval date. I see they are processing apps from the end of Jan. based on VJ statistics. I say you will see your NOA2 in 5-6 weeks. Thats just my best guess. :)

The Stats here on VJ are more reliable but dont go giving your notice in just yet if you look at the K1 guide and timelines you are looking at a minimum of 7 months to get a visa.

Good Luck

I agree. I really wouldn't put too much merit in Nebraska's processing timeline. they were in receipt of our I-129 on January 9th and we received our NOA 2 on March 7th, and thats without them even changing their processing timeline from late December. I used to check our status every day, but, when I saw they were processing applications dated from December........I stopped stressing myself out and stopped checking. so you can imagine how amazed I was when on March 7th I was on the computer and wham...an e-mail from Nebraska saying we were approved. I won't tell you to be patient, because I KNOW how impossible that is :( . but hang in there, and I hope everything moves quickly for you.

our timeline

01/03/06 - mailed I-129F application to NSC

01/16/06 - received NOA1 via snail mail

03/07/06 - received NOA2 via e-mail

03/22/06 - received at NVC

03/23/06 - case forwarded to embassy (Montreal)

04/11/06 - sent checklist and DS-230 part 1 to embassy

07/07/06 - Visa denied, handed in completed I-601

08/19/06 - I-601 received in Vermont

I am guessing the files are divided into piles, and set on different desks. So one batch of files is processed in different order, depending on who landed on top after splitting a file pile, and to whom it was assigned, concerning speed of work.

I am guessing the files are divided into piles, and set on different desks. So one batch of files is processed in different order, depending on who landed on top after splitting a file pile, and to whom it was assigned, concerning speed of work.

Some time ago, there was someone on here who had worked at one of the service centers and posted a description of how they are processed.

After initial processing (where they are entered into the system and NOA1 issued), they are set in piles, (roughly) in order of receipt.

When an agent has completed the applications they are working on, they go take one of the piles and begin working on them.

It's quite possible that one agent could take a pile of applications to go work on, and 5 minutes later, another agent takes another pile. The first application on agent #2's pile gets done right away, however the application previous to it (which is on the bottom of agent #1's pile) doesn't get touched until agent #1 works their way through their entire pile. If agent #1 has a particularly involved case that takes extra time, then all the others wait. If agent #1 goes on vacation or is sick for a few days, that pile sits on their desk, waiting.

So it's quite possible for someone to submit an application that goes through in a couple weeks, while someone who submitted before them takes months. We saw evidence of this last year in Nebraska - people who submitted their I-129F's in early to mid November were taking 2-3 months to be processed, while people who submitted in late November and early December were taking 2-3 WEEKS to be processed.

It sucks, it's totally unfair, and it's yet another symptom of a completely broken immigration system.

You will know plenty in advance to give your one month notice because NOA2 is not approval, it is merely a step in the chain of events. Once you have your NOA2 and have passed through the NVC you'll go on to the Embassy stage, and the embassy will assign you an interview date (the date for the final approval of the visa) and you should hopefully have this date awhile in advance before the actual interview. However, I don't know anything about the Croatian Embassy. If you are worried about knowing in advance you should research timelines for Croatia to see how far in advance people were notified of their interview date. If worse comes to worse you have upto 4 (or maybe it's 6?) months to use your visa once you have gotten it approved at the Embassy, so you can always get your visa, give a one month notice at work, and then leave for the USA after that month.

You do nothing. They will send you the NOA2 in the mail, then you will (usually) get a letter from the NVC to let you know it's passed through there, then you will get Packet 3 sent to you from the consulate with more forms and instructions in it. All you do now is sit and wait.

In general, there is nothing to do between NOA1 and NOA2. Just study the guides and understand what you must do before the interview and for the interview, which you have probably already done. You do not have to worry about the medical (the forms come with the interview packet anyway) and I suppose you could get started on the police reports, but there is plenty of time later.

Sit back and wait! It sucks I know, it is what I am doing. This is supposed to be the hardest part of the process though. It is so frustrating that your fate lies in someone elses hand, and the way things tend to get done at the service centers, they don't seem to give a #######.

Hello,

I went through the Nebraska service center and i rec'd my NOA1 eight days after i sent in my I-129F and my NOA2 followed three weeks after that. I rec'd them before my dates appeared on the processing time website. I think it just depends on how busy they are at the time your petition was sent...

Good Luck.. Everything will be fine..
