I went all out to make sure I was organized. I had a 1/2" 3-ring binder and bought lots of plastic sleeve covers to put the papers in. Within the binder, I had 3 sections - forms, evidence of having met in past 2 years, and evidence of ongoing relationship. I made a table of contents for each section, and also stuck post-its where needed to give some context to the evidence I was including. I know, I'm #######

Good luck getting it together!

Shudder. This is absolutely not what to do. USCIS will disassemble and reassemble your submission to fit their own needs. I can just imagine the swear words uttered under the breath of the poor staffer who had to take all your pages out of a binder, throw the binder in the trash, then take each page out of a sleeve and put them all together again in a proper format. I hope they weren't of a mind to lose something out of spite.

this may be your opinion, however there is no right or wrong way. They will not reject a petition because of its organizational appearance. they will take it all shoved loose in an envelope or bound in a binder with plastic sleeves or clipped together with paper clips. They disassemble them all anyway. They will put the package in the order they wish, even if clipped with an arco fastener. There have been countless approved petitions sent in with binders and sleeves and accordian folders etc.

it part of the job of the mail room to sort the documents and put it in the order they wish. i also put my petition in a binder with plastic sleeves contrary to your "shudder", and my petition is just fine as is theirs. They recommend an arco fastner, but they are more concerned with the submission having all the documents and signatures etc than how it is organized by the submitter. As you said, USCIS will disassemble and reassemble your submission to fit their own needs. regardless of how you submit it.

and i doubt they are consistently uttering swear words. they have seen it all.

Chris

Chris, you've missed his point entirely. I totally agree with Pushbrk - except the bit about spitefully losing something.

read this: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...dicator-q-and-a

it is all from a thread from a VJ member/ former USCIS adjudicator & it gives a little insight to the process (at least at the time the guy was there). Please note where it's stressed that they process apps fast, how they're judged on how many they process, etc.

To have things in binders with sleeves and all fancy DOES cost the adjudicator more time in disassembling the petition from the original format to a pile of papers the way they need it done. Obviously, with the two hole punch, it means it's going into a file and being bound at the top. So the binder and fancy plastic sheet protectors is a superfluous timewaster.

Since I wrote, "I hope they weren't of a mind to lose something out of spite." I'm guessing you actually hope so too. No?

Hi,

Well I am putting mine together and I was just wondering if I could see an example. I have the Acco fastener and the two hole punch, I just want to make sure it looks how it should.

Follow the guides here on VJ and you will be fine. You are stressig way too much,I would worry more about everything in the packet being compleate other than a picture of the packet

no i didnt miss his point. on the contrary you missed the point. the adjudicator doesnt disassemble the petition. the people in the mail room do , who also separate out the checks and make sure the checklist for the petition is complete. the adjudicators dont answer the phone either. they have people for that job to. the adjudicators approve petitions.

and to allue that the way you put your petition together will make them lose it out of spite of put it on teh back burner is way out. your petition is grouped by date received and by region, regardless of how you sent it in. binded, arco'ed or loose in an envelope,

Chris

I sincerely apologize if my expression of hope caused you or anybody else even an instant of emotional dispair.

For the sake of meaningful discussion, let's assume you are absolutely correct in every detail. Now, please tell us again how you helped yourself by making things difficult for the mail room staff.

For whatever it is worth...

Master copy for USCIS was assembled with paperclips in the order that was listed on the cover letter. Check paperclipped to cover letter.

Both file copies of submitted package were in the fancy plastic sleeves and binders for our files. I also .pdf'd everything so I can e-mail the package if the needed. It will take a program like Adobe Acrobat to do this along with a scanner or you can .jpg everything but the file size is quite large. It is not manditory. Just something extra I did.

Great thread from HuskerKiev.

Amen sister! Why stress yourselves out with the time and not to mention the expense of putting together a petition packet that uses something from every isle in an office supply store??

There's a reason why they suggest ACCO fasteners ..... simplicity!

They are simple but I think the "reason" they are suggested is that USCIS uses them. When you two-hole punch you package, you actually save time for the service center. When you use a binder and plastic sleeves, you cost the service center time, slowing everybody down.
