She finally switched after a long time and then I looked away and back and she was clockwise again. I think it's an animation thing, not perception, right?

A comment below the article suggest it as a *hoax*, try getting more than just yourself to look at her spinning.

Laura, I don't think it's a hoax. I always see it turning clockwise even after trying to train my eyes to see her turn the other way. Perhaps I'm tainted working as an animator.

I could see her both ways. I'm right handed but left eye dominant.

I won't say I'm 100% sure it's a hoax because I can't prove it, but I'm pretty much 99.9% sure it is :P

Ok, now it doesn't look like a hoax, if you concentrate on her shadow and scroll down so you can only see the shadow it's easier to make her change directions, then I managed to see her counter-clockwise again and then forcibly switch to clockwise, it is a lot harder for me to see counter-clockwise than clockwise, though.

And now got her to change back and forth, but still, I have to concentrate a lot harder to go from clock to counter than the other way around.

My mom and I saw it switch at different times.....

Clockwise. But I can make her switch back and forth. I actually twirled my finger in front of the image and could get her to spin in the required direction.

Go on. You know you want to try it.

The model is set up so that it rotates counter-clockwise in this animation. However its just a silhouette, and your brain fills in the rest of the volume. Depending which side of the brain is more dominant Will depend which way you see the animation moving.

:P I don't think so, Dan. Her head tilt and her right arm pose suggest to me that she's in a clockwise rotation. I have yet to see her go the other direction. Also, the motion of her going from up to down - I see it from left to right.

I'd be interesting in knowing if I can duplicate the test with similar results.

It took me a good half hour to see it going counter-clockwise. Do you wear glasses/contacts, Steven? Try taking them off...or else try just making your eyes go blurry. Then I had to concentrate very hard on her extended leg, willing it to go in the other direction.

Take the image into a gif animation program and go frame by frame. She is set up to go counter-clockwise.

But due to persistance of vision and how diffrent sides of the brain works, it fills in the rest.
