Lisa, I was shaken because someone here whom I respect and admire said that he's grown tired of my 'negativity' towards America. I think most people know me well enough that I can take verbal jabs as well as anyone, but saying I'm bashing America or that I dislike or hate America because my personal gripes with our government policies happen to fall on the wrong side of the argument is in effect, saying my opinion isn't welcome here.

Most of the threads that have been made on illegal immigration I haven't posted, yet oddly enough when I post a viewpoint on the subject, I'm somehow drowning this forum with my 'blame America' views on illegal immigration to the point where people are growing tired of it. Disagreeing with someone's POV is one thing - but telling them their opinion doesn't count because they hate America is another.

I was suggesting a moratorium as offering a compromise to those who said they're tired of my opinion on illegal immigration - that if they want me to stop posting on the subject then how about we all be silent on it for awhile? If not, that's fine with me as long I can continue to express my views on illegal immigration without being attacked personally for having an opinion.

But Steven, that's your issue with whomever said it. It's not the problem of VJ as a whole. If you feel the 'attacks' are out of line....pm a mod or E

Your suggestion was not a compromise....hey, pm those you have issues with (or who have issues with you) and deal with your compromise privately....but to make a big hoo ha out of it by starting a thread 'suggesting' a gag on a topic as YOUR compromise...well, that's just a lil bit selfish imo.

Steven, I want to officially and humbly apologize if you feel I was questioning your patriotism. I was not intending to do so. I have no doubt that you love this country just as much as I do. It's just that I STRONGLY disagree with your opinions when it comes to illegal aliens, the causes and the proposed cures. If I got carried away then I am publicly asking for your forgiveness. I will agree that you and I should not argue with each other about illegal aliens for a while. If I see you posting something I don't agree with then I will just stay out of it. By the same token if you see me going off in a thread about illegal aliens then you stay out of it. Deal? We can't and shouldn't ask others that have nothing to do with our disputes to curtail voicing their opinions.
