This has probably been asked a million times but can I bring a cell phone and if so what happens? Do they hold it and give it back to me on my way out?

I need it so I can call a friend to pick me up. Thanks !

Technically no: it's forbidden to. But then I would say it depends on your local office and whether they check for it or not. They didn't where I went.

Obviously you won't have a car to leave it in... Try to see if there is a pay phone next to the office or a place you can use to call.

There also are offices where you can pay to have them keep your stuff. You should call and ask what the policy is at yours.

When I went for my biometrics, they checked before they opened the doors and told each person that they could NOT take their phone inside, and many people had to put their phones in the car till they were done.

My biometrics for AOS took about 15/20 minutes from start to finish (including filling in papers, and getting the darn machine to read my fingerprints as it seemed to be in a mood, lol). My EAD biometrics were over and done in 5 minutes. If you need your friend to come and get you, tell them your appointment time, and have them try and be there around the time of the appointment. I am sure they won't mind if it ends up a short wait. (Our biometrics place had parking outside so there was no worries).

Hope that helps

Claudeth had to leave hers with me. I wasn't allowed in the waiting area for the appointments, I had to sit in the 'visitors' area

Thanks for the answers. I will see if my friend is willing to pick me up at a specific time. A lot of public phones around here had their insides taken out :/

Check the reviews from your local office to see how long it usually takes.

Mine took an hour which was mainly waiting to be called, but it really depends on how busy your office is.

They asked us if we had cell phones...we brought them back to the car but they didnt strip search or anything.

Our appointment took almost 2.5 hrs.

igomo... see if you can call your local office before the appt and check with them.

Biometrics appt letter says "NOT PERMITTED" but when I got there (I'm in San Francisco) no one asked me anything. There were signs on the wall to SWITCH OFF cell phones only! There you go! You never know with these things!

As for time spent there... I turned up about 15 mins early (unusual for me!!!), there were two more people waiting, and I was out of the office 12pm on the dot - time my appt was set to start! Quick or what? :)

I129F process:

20 July '06- I129F filed with CSC (Got a lawyer - BIG MISTAKE... Didn't know of VJ!!!)

28 July '06 - NOA1

08 Dec '06 - NOA2

06 Feb '07 - medical

12 Mar '07 ----- INTERVIEW ----- A P P R O V E D -----

4 Apr '07 - US entry - San Francisco

1 July '07 - MARRIED in SF :)

AOS process (after K-1):

24 July '07 - AOS application received by Chicago Office

09 August '07 - Biometrics appt letter

24 August '07 - RFE for I-485 (incomplete tax info sent!)

28 August '07 - NOA letters for AOS, EAD and AP

29 August '07 - Biometrics

AP - 12 October '07 - hard copy: multiple travel, valid 12 months

EAD - 18 October '07 - hard copy: valid from the date of 1st notice of card production

SSN - 30 October '07 (married name), applied Oct 18, same day I got my EAD

DL - 11 December '07 - driving test at DMV San Francisco. Yay! Now I can drive on the "wrong" side of the road!

21 November '07 - AOS Interview (Letter rec'd Oct 15) ----- A P P R O V E D ----- A P P R O V E D ----- A P P R O V E D -----

07 December '07 - GREENCARD IN MAIL

Peace and quiet... apply for removal of conditions - August 2009!
