Hi guys, I'm new here and this is my first post.

I'm from Mexico and I'm engaged to an American. Talk about rough process, this K-1 visa is horrendous.

Anyway, we sent our papers late July, we got our receipt number soon after that. The USCIS page says they received the papers August 1st, and since then we haven't gotten a single word from them or change in our status, right now it's just "Received and Pending."

Should we have gotten word by now about the next step or is this normal?

Thanks

Actually the K1 process for Mexico is one of the easiest (post USCIS processing). Since USCIS has posted memos regarding delays in sending out NOA1s, it's not surprising that you haven't received anything. Other than the NOA1, you shouldn't expect to hear anything (for months on end at times) until you are approved.

Check out the Juarez thread in the Foreign Embassy Forum - you'll find everything you need to know about K1s in Ciudad Juarez (plus take some time to look at the CDJ website Fiance information).

This is normal. You might not hear another word from USCIS until you get NOA2. Sometimes you get a touch or two in between NOA1 and NOA2 but not always. You have a good 4+ month wait until NOA2. Sit back and relax, it's a long ride.

Yes, it is normal. Don't expect to hear anything about a petition approval for at least 90 days. Since they show your petition received August 1 and you say you sent it in late August, I would ask whether you paid the old or new fee? New fees went into effect July 30.

the package was sent July 24th, anticipating the higher fees, and they were sent over night. What ti said on the USCIS page was just that they had received it.

Yeah, we knew that fees were gonna go up just didn't know exactly when. When we found that out we already had 95% of our stuff ready so we managed to get them there before having to pay 400 plus dollars.

Thanks for the info guys.

If things tend to get a little out of hand I'm going to visit her after Christmas. We were hoping that we'd have a December wedding but the way things are going we're going to have to postpone everything.

I already read the "Yes you can visit" forum, and it was good to hear that you can actually visit, it's just a mater of luck. It's good to get some good news once in a while during the process.

Jose rule one with Fiance Visas -- do NOT plan anything - a wedding, a party, a plane ticket -- anything until you have your visa in hand. There are way too many variables here that can cause delays. If you read through the Juarez thread, you'll see one instance of a 6 month delay due to an issue with fingerprints. USCIS makes this clear as well. Save yourself a lot of heartache and plan on this taking a lot longer than you expect.

Planning a wedding is not a good idea. Things don't always go to plan and the addition of a wedding date will just make an already stressful process worse.

17th March 2010 - Started the removal of conditions process

22nd March 2010 - Application received by CSC

30th April 2010 - Biometrics appointment
